While learning to drive, Maisie's teacher seemed professional and friendly at first, but then she started feeling uncomfortable around him. She turned him down when he asked her out for a drink for her 18th birthday, and he responded by creating a Tik Tok for her with driving tips, but he added a heart and called her his "favorite." Because he was almost 40 years older than her, Maisie initially thought he was just a sad man with a crush. Things spiraled when he created an IG account, counting down the days until he saw her again, sent her gifts, texted her confessing his love, and joined her WhatsApp group chat. Not stopping there, her stalker also paid someone from the dark web to hack into her Instagram, which is when Maisie first reported him to the police. He was caught and placed on bail after driving to her dorm to try to see her but immediately broke bail by requesting to follow her on Instagram. Jeanette was stalked in college by a classmate she befriended from her wilderness class. During the class trip, they got to know each other as friends, and afterward, he texted her, asking her to be his girlfriend and saying he loved her. She turned him down, but he continued to reach out excessively, eventually showing up in class with a bouquet, causing them embarrassment when she again turned him down. He continued to follow her around campus and even threatened suicide. Jeanette went to the campus police as his threats turned from self-harm to harming her, even posting a message on Facebook offering money to anyone willing to strip her naked in public. Melanie was stalked by her ex-husband after meeting and connecting with him online. When he told her about his criminal past, she felt they should just remain friends, but he won her over and they were quickly married. Melanie's new husband was immediately abusive, and she barely made it out of the marriage alive. After a horrible beating she filed for divorce and pressed charges. Her abuser only served five months in jail. After his release, he hacked Melanie's social media to get access to her photos and messages. He created fake social media accounts, posted her information online, and told her he would commit a murder-suicide. He constantly threatened Melanie, telling her how he wanted to torture and murder her. Jill was stalked by an older high school foreign exchange student who became obsessed with her. He constantly stood in front of her locker and would move aside when she needed to use it, but continued to stare without speaking to her. As his behavior escalated, he followed her around school, waited outside the bathroom for her, and offered her gifts. Jill told the school counselor about this, and found out he had also been stalking other students. The counselor told Jill to try to be sympathetic because of cultural differences and suggested Jill befriend her stalker; giving the stalker the same advice. When her stalker approached her again, she told him to leave her alone, but that only escalated his stalking behavior. When Jill's mother found out what was happening, she called the school and threatened to call the police. Paula was stalked by an ex-boyfriend from high school. When Paula broke up with him, his behavior became disturbing, and he attempted suicide to try to get her back. She gave in but only stayed long enough to help him survive the suicide attempt. When she left him again, he followed her to a hotel room she was at with friends and threatened them with a gun. Paula was again afraid for her life when she was riding in his car, and he started driving erratically, threatening to kill them both. Things got worse when Paula's stalker was caught hiding in the bushes outside her house, jumping out to punch her in the face and force his way into her home.
