June 14, 2024 - Season 14, Episode 145 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Friday episode, which was recorded late Thursday evening Alex Kozora and I start by discussing several of the comments made by Pittsburgh Steelers GM Omar Khan during his Thursday afternoon interview on 93.7 The Fan. Khan talked a little about the team's decision to not pick up the fifth-year option on RB Najee Harris in May in addition to saying the team still could work out a contract extension with the former first-round draft pick. We go over the likelihood of Harris signing an extension before the 2024 regular season and much more related to things Khan said about the running back. Khan also talked about the addition of CB Cameron Sutton on Thursday and how the team has no idea if a suspension is coming for the player. Khan also gave us several other talking points to discuss related to players. With the Steelers 2024 mandatory minicamp now finished, Alex and I discuss several notable things that came out of the three-day session. We discuss the side rookie OT Troy Fautanu is likely to play. We also discuss the overall health of the Steelers coming out of their annual mandatory minicamp with a lot of our focus being on whether ILB Cole Holcomb will be ready to practice once training camp gets underway in July. Several of the Steelers defensive coaches talked on Thursday so we go over what DC Teryl Austin and others on that side of the football had to say during their media sessions. We talk about the slot cornerback position, the usage of S Minkah Fitzpatrick in 2024, and the early summer development of third-year DL DeMarvin Leal. There’s been quite a bit of praise for rookie ILB Payton Wilson these last several days so Alex and I focus on that topic in this show. In this Wednesday episode, Alex Kozora and I start by discussing the Pittsburgh Steelers getting HC Mike Tomlin signed to a three-year contract extension through the 2027 season. We discuss if we think the extension was worthy and if both of us still believe that Tomlin has what it takes to lead the team to another Super Bowl championship. Alex and I also look at Tomlin's biggest perceived mistakes to date and if the head coach would be willing to develop another rookie quarterback as soon as next season should both of the team's current top-two quarterbacks, Russell Wilson, and Justin Fields, not work out in 2024 for whatever reasons. The Steelers finally signed C Zach Frazier to his rookie contract on Monday, so Alex and I look at some important details related to that deal. Would Smith-Schuster returning to the Steelers really move the needle at all in the wide receiver room? We have our doubts. Will Steelers HC Mike Tomlin really attempt to paint some sort of faux summer quarterback competition this offseason much like he did two years ago with Mitch Trubisky and Kenny Pickett? The Steelers first week of 2024 OTAs wrapped up on Thursday and with that, Alex and I recap more notable things to come out of the first several practices. He comes with the mentality of competing for a starting job, but how realistic are his expectations? We discuss the dynamic between Fields and Russell Wilson and how it seems to be a positive relationship thus far and compare it to some reports about his time in Chicago. We also make predictions on how many games, if any, he will start in 2024. We next move on to some praise being showered on offensive coordinator Arthur Smith early on in the OTA process. We compare it to comments made about Matt Canada's offense in the past, and why Smith continued to be an underrated storyline for the Steelers entering next season.
