Like last episode, when we faced some of the worst popes we’ve ever had, today, we’ll look at some of the worst instances of human corruption the Church has ever had. From illegitimate indulgences, to clerics throughout history helping their family members, and all sorts of other bad actors, we’ll try to understand how to balance the divine nature of the Church with her very human members.

we’ll continue our Apologetics Series by looking squarely and unapologetically at some of the worst men who have ever sat on the throne of St. Peter. And there have been more than a few. What are we as Catholics to think about this? How can the Catholic Church be true, be inspired by God if these men were at the helm?

For hundreds of years, the critics argue, the Catholic Church spearheaded a cultural genocide across the globe, replacing vibrant indigenous cultures with white European culture. So… is it true? What impact did the Church have on exploratory missions? Did conversion lead to colonization?

It all starts with the basic concept of how should the Church deal with heresies? What does a trial for a crime against truth look like – and what should it look like? Throughout history, were there abuses of this process by the Church or by the civil authorities? Or is it all completely exaggerated? There’s lots of info that Dr. Rao will help us uncover.

We're starting to look at some of the more controversial aspects of Church History. Over the next 6 episodes, we’ll have Dr. John Rao join us to look at the “hot button issues” that are commonly used to attack the faith. Today we’ll start by looking at the Crusades. Were they good, or were they bad? Or, is it a lot more complicated than that? How did the Crusades impact the growth of Roman Catholicism, and how did they impact the relationship between East and West?

Fr. Ian Palko will join us again to look specifically at the Miracles that the New Testament says Our Lord performed. Did he actually perform these, or are these just made up stories, passed from word of mouth, and finally collected in the New Testament as fodder for a new religion? How can we possibly prove these fantastic stories from nearly 2,000 years ago as being accurate?

Now we’ll start to see what religion needs to look like, so that it’s not just something we believe in, like a myth or a legend. What is the most fundamental principle of a religion, if it is going to be true? We’ll ask Fr. Leo Anthony Haynos, who teaches this exact topic at St. Thomas Aquinas Seminary.

We’ve already seen in Episode 5 that we have to practice a religion, but now we’ll start to see what that religion needs to look like, so that it’s not just something we believe in, like a myth or a legend. What is the most fundamental principle of a religion, if it is going to be true?

There are tons of theories about who holds authority within the Catholic Church. Is the pope one of multiple patriarchs, who need to share power? Or is he the supreme, absolute monarch of the entire Catholic Church? How can we use Scripture and Tradition to answer this?

In this episode, Fr. MacGillivray will look at the concept of the papacy itself. We’ve already seen that Jesus set up the Catholic Church, but he left us with 12 Apostles, who would be the first bishops. Did he actually set up St. Peter as the most important of the Apostles? And what was the reason for putting one fallible, hot-headed, uneducated man at the head of His Divine Church?

We’ve seen that Jesus is God, that He rose from the dead, and performed miracles, but what about after He went back to Heaven? Did He just leave us with His teachings, or did He expect us to do something else? Some would claim he wants us to belong to a visible, real, hierarchical Church, but didn’t He say that His kingdom was not of this world? So why belong to a church here on earth?

We know that the New Testament is credible, but what about its most important event? Is it logical that a man died and then rose from the dead by his own power? Is there another way to interpret or explain what we read in the Scripture? Many have claimed throughout history that perhaps he was just very smart – he was a holy man, but not God. Others claim that he was a complete fraud – he really existed, but he...

What are miracles anyway? And isn’t it easier to just say that miracles are things that we don’t fully understand, and not the hand of God entering our life? That seems… not logical. And if miracles are real, then what is the point of them? How do we know that miracles are actually, miraculous? How do we know that things which are unexplained are actually miracles, and not just things we can’t explain? We’ll answer all these questions.

Let's look at the many prophecies about Our Lord Jesus Christ in the Old Testament. First, Fr. MacPherson will help us understand what a prophecy is, and how it’s different than a prediction. Then we’ll see how throughout the Old Testament, these prophecies get clearer and clearer about who Our Lord would be – yet even still, there was a lot of confusion. Why didn’t people at the time understand who Our Lord was?

Today we’ll look at two specific points: How are we supposed to interpret some of the more controversial points? Was the God of the Old Testament a God of wrath and jealousy? Also, why did God choose a specific group of people – single them out – as His chosen people? Is that fair?

Can we trust scripture? How do we know that the Bible is true, much less divinely inspired? Can we really trust that this collection of books from hundreds, thousands of years ago is accurate? And how are we supposed to interpret it?

Did God have to give man revelation? Is revelation necessary for us to know who God is? Or can we know all about God just from our own reason and intellect?

Today, we’ll investigate the obvious next question – how do we know what to do for this religion? Can we figure it out all on our own? Do we need God to tell us? And is it even possible for God to speak to humans? It initially seems beyond credibility…

We’ll look broadly at the morality of drug use, then, we will look specifically at marijuana to consider its effects, compare its effects to those of alcohol and tobacco, and finally make a judgment on the morality of its use.

So Far this Podcast has attempted to show why Catholics consider it reasonable to hold that there is a God, and to hold that human beings are distinct from the other animals, having a rational soul. Now the question presents itself: Do human beings have any duties towards God? In other words – is some practice of Religion demanded of one who would live a Reasonable life?

Fr. Albert will join us to look at man himself. We’ve spent the last three episodes looking at the existence God, now we need to know about us. We know that we exist – that part is easy. But what are we made for? What is our purpose? Or in more apologetical terms – what is the nature of man? This is going to influence all the rest of the episodes, so Fr. Albert will help us get a good foundation today.

Fr. Paul Robinson will look at the theory of evolution. Can a Catholic hold that evolution and creation are both consistent with each other? Can non-life turn into life? Can life turn into intelligent life? Is there room in the theory of evolution for God? We’ve already seen that God exists – so how did he bring about life on earth – are we able to know for sure?

Fr. Paul Robinson, the Publisher of Angelus Press, and Prior of St. Isidore’s in Denver Colorado, will take on the two most common objections to the existence of God. First, we’ll look at the problem of evil – how can a good God allow or permit evil to exist? Second, we’ll look at the argument that basically, nature, and the world, is simply self-explanatory. There just doesn’t need to be a God, or even any purpose to existence, the argument goes. How should we answer this?

Today we’ll start with the very basic question about whether or not God exists. Fr. Robinson will also give us a basic background on Apologetics:
