Young Adults Pastor Kevin O’dea brought today’s sermon entitled, “Where the Spirit is, there is Freedom”.   He shared how he feels that God wants us to change from having a freedom experience to have a freedom reality.   Often we come into worship and we get a measure of freedom but because we haven’t truly allowed ourselves to be free, we are still in bondage, shackled and if someone is shackled they cannot live in a reality of freedom.  He shares a dream he had where the Lord showed him who he really is and he also discussed what the true meaning of surrender is – and it is so different from how the world views surrender.

Our Pastor brings a message regarding Fathers utilizing passages from Romans 8 and from the book Ball Four by Jim Boulton. Reading several sections from Jim Boulton’s story, as well as sharing some of his memories of Pastor Harvey Meek. Elaborating on how as time went by they grew in understanding each other better in certain ways. This message hits home on so many levels. Pun intended!

Pastor delves further into praying in the spirit. Discussing the Tent of Meeting and how the Priest were required to keep lamps burning and wicks trimmed. This is a metaphor for our lives. He shows how our life, our prayers, our relationship to the Lord and others is profoundly changed through our prayer language.

You’ve heard it said that “sticks and stones can break my bones but words can never hurt me.” Well, as you’ll hear Pastor Barbie Loflin point out in today’s lesson, words are powerful and they really can hurt us. They can form our lives – a blessing or a curse – as we submit to what we’re told about ourselves. But God has made a way to escape the words that would hold us down as we submit to his powerful words.

“Life can sometimes be complex.” Pastor Meek discusses how the Holy Spirit works through our prayers. There are situations and problems that are just too difficult or complex to know how to pray and that is why we pray in the Spirit. This doesn’t mean we “pray” telling God what He needs to do, but by allowing the Holy Spirit to pray through us. Our relationships with Christ that began as a joyful dance often become distant because of distraction. And though we may try to fight our way back to that place of peace and joy, our strength will ultimately fail. Listen as Pastor Barbie shares about the power of the Holy Spirit's Blessings of Liberation that free us to continue the dance as though it was never interrupted.

In our final week on the Blessings of the Spirit, Pastor Barbie shares the Blessings of Expanded Capacity with us. Pastor Barbie Loflin and Pastor Ronnie Meek share their testimony of coming to the knowledge of, and walking in the Holy Spirit. Pastor Barbie speaks on how she grew up in a Pentecostal church and how the “Holy Ghost” was viewed through her child’s eye. Later, as a teen, she was blessed to join a youth group that had a hunger for the things of God and who began teaching her about the Holy Spirit. She tells how through the Holy Spirit her life was transformed and how the Spirit of Truth became very real. Pastor Ronnie Meek shares how he remembers hearing about the Holy Spirit at the same time he learned about Jesus. He explains when he received the baptism in the Holy Spirit and spoke in tongues how he felt like he’d “joined the club”. In his later teens, he went away from God and the church and was seeking for something that was real for him not just imitating others. At 25, he came back to the Lord and shared how the Holy Spirit brought him into relationships, with God foremost and then with his wife and men of God that have been in his life now for 30 years.

Three of our pastors share how the Holy Spirit has been realized in their lives. Two from church backgrounds and one who did not have any church background. Encounters with Jesus Freaks in the 70’s, being able to understand someone speaking in another language while in a foreign country and having a moment during the middle of a service where prompted to the aisle with knees bowed and hands raised. Vision: Many may have expected Pastor Ronnie to discuss the vision for the church as 2012 begins and in a way he does. Going a little deeper he asks what is the vision for each of us. What is the vision for Christ followers? What is the church’s responsibility to its members when it comes to fulfilling the vision in each of us?
