Proper caping techniques are crucial for preserving the quality of the hide for taxidermy.Velvet antlers can be preserved by using VelvaLock adhesive spray. It is recommended to cool the animal quickly after harvesting to prevent spoilage.Replacing a damaged cape can be expensive, so it's important to handle the hide with care.Antelope hides are delicate and require special handling to prevent hair loss.Reece Anderson can be contacted through Northwind Taxidermy for any taxidermy-related questions or services. They conclude by discussing the importance of optics in hunting and the challenges of finding a scope that works well for both short-range and long-range hunting.https://www.instagram.com/silas.outdoors/ Takeaways:Choosing the right rifle caliber and bullet for hunting depends on the specific hunting environment and target species.Shot placement is crucial for a clean and ethical kill, regardless of the caliber or bullet used.Understanding the capabilities and limitations of your rifle is important for making effective shots.Using the same rifle for both whitetail and elk hunting is possible, but it may require adjusting bullet selection for different hunting scenarios.Consider factors such as bullet weight, energy, and bullet construction when selecting ammunition for different hunting situations.Faster bullets can lead to quicker kills, especially for smaller animals like antelope.Bullet size and speed can influence the outcome of a hunt, but the size and toughness of the animal also play a role.Using a single bullet for all hunting purposes can simplify the process and eliminate the need for constant adjustments and re-sighting.Shot placement is crucial for ethical and humane kills, and hunters should strive to end the animal's suffering as quickly as possible.Choosing the right optics for hunting requires considering the specific hunting scenarios and balancing the need for short-range and long-range capabilities. Ep 1888Hound Dog Network - Who's Responsible?
Most hunters believe the first line of responsibility in providing good dogs to hunt rests with the breeder. Others may point to the dog’s owner, commonly called the trainer, as the one chiefly responsible for the dog’s success or failure. And that’s just talking about performance. How about breed type in the show ring? Who decides what’s correct or faulty? The boys engage in the usual “dog talk at its finest” in the opening minutes of the episode before cracking the lid on a can of mayhem and confusion centered on the age old “just who gives you the right” challenge. Triggered somewhat by comments on recent social media, Corey opens a discussion about who gets to decide what quality is in a given breed of hounds? And, beyond that, who has the authority to call the shots when it comes to breeding quality dogs? Does simply owning a great dog make the owner the be-all, end-all authority on the breed? Opinions in this episode are flying like starlings in the wind, the opinions no more authoritative than the flapping of wings yet no less passionate. This is a lively discussion that’s bound to stir a reaction or two within every houndsman, color and conformation preferences aside. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Ep 1885Hound Dog Network - It’s In The Bag
Who would be crazy enough to put a lion in a sack? The list is short, but today's episode introduces you to a man who did just that.Today's episode gives a new meaning to the statement “it’s in the bag”. The real question is what’s in that bag? Ep 1882Hound Dog Network - The Elephant In The Room
We’re taking about cheating. When Steve was with the registries he dealt with it on a fairly frequent basis. Determined to keep coon hunting in a positive light, he rarely wrote publicly about the subject, choosing to let the system deal with perpetrators behind the scenes. Now, unburdened by what was before, he and Corey spotlight the pencil crooks, the blind voters, the dog pitchers and catchers, and the movers and switchers in a sport that was built, and owes its very survival to the premise that honor belongs to whom honor is due. You’ll enjoy this eye-opening look at the sport behind the scenes and, believe it or not, may come away feeling better about it in the process. There’s no substitute, no better remedy, for correcting the ills of dishonesty in competition than a good working knowledge of the rules of the game by all participants. The problems and solutions of keeping a level field are all here in this episode. We not only see the elephant in this episode, we skin it out and tack its hide to the wall. Ep 1878Hunt Detail - Good News for Hunters that Like Bad News
If you hunt other states, the amount of information available to you in order to plan your hunt has increased significantly over the past decade. From YouTube, Podcasts, Forums, Pay Wall Information, Facebook Groups, etc. So, where will this expand to in the next 5 to 10 years? How will it evolve and spread from other states that you hunt, to your state, your county, and eventually your own backyard? If you think that the availability of information on other states has been helpful, just wait until you have individuals and companies chatting up your favorite piece of public land and exposing your own hunting spots...all in the name of "helping others" and "mentoring". Ep 1877Hunting Gear Podcast - Cuddeback Cuddelink
On this episode of the Hunting Gear Deals Series on The Hunting Gear Podcast, Camron talks with Dan Shultz from Cuddeback to discuss the revolutionary Cuddelink system that has the ability to transfer images via a radio frequency to the home base camera that's connected to an LTE network like a cellular trail camera. However, you don't need cellular service to utilize the Cuddelink Remote Cameras. The Cuddeback Cuddelink Home Base Cellular Camera needs to be placed in an area that has service and the other cameras can send images from up to 1/4 mile away or more to the home base camera. You can even daisy chain the cameras together out to 2 miles away from the home base camera. The best part, you only need one cellular data plan on the home base camera.
