Spiritual Teachings With Shunyamurti

Shunyamurti jests that he is writing a science fiction novel called "Escape from Tartarus", which is about how to get out the hell realm of the ego, and goes on to discuss the ideas of the German theologian Friedrich Schleiermacher, of the yearning for the infinite as well as absolute dependency on God, as well as how to break free of illusory dependencies in order to reach true liberation.

In this livestream satsang teaching, Shunyamurti teaches that we must awaken consciousness from this dark night to a new dawn by realizing the ego's entrapment in memory and language, and divest in the world while investing in the energetic currency that is true freedom and our true nature in order to capitalize on the spiritual wealth and supernatural resources to those who choose to risk climbing out of the ego's comfort zone and up the mountain of God.

Shunyamurti speaks about the importance of our vibrational frequency, using the example of water crystals taking on the frequency of the energy that they are imbued with, how this vibrational frequency creates an energy field, giving an anecdote from his ashram in India, and how we must raise our vibrational energy to create a higher vibrational planet to bring about a new age.

Shunyamurti reads from "Cultivating the Empty Field" (the writings of Hongzhi), a section entitled "With Total Trust, Roam and Play in Samadhi", which remarks on emptying out any hope of being an illusory entity with its "warm and cozy" comforts, that understanding cannot be transmitted through scripture, and one has to let go of even the purest beliefs, that there must be a state of free fall in nonduality between the phenomenal and noumenal, and that every fragment of the dream reflects infinite facets of the Supreme.

In this opening night retreat teaching, Shunyamurti references Paul Tillich's "Ultimate Concern" as an inquiry into the various concepts of God that resonate in one's quest to love God, which is the supreme meaning of this reality and therefore the Ultimate Reality, and the only real salvation for a false world.

Shunyamurti explains that we are entering a period in which the whirlwind of destruction is accelerating, which affects all of us, as reality is fractal, and goes on to explain that we must be at the highest level of consciousness, as the ego-mind will not be able to survive.

Shunyamurti explains that the seriousness of satsangs must deepen in accord with the seriousness of the world situation, explaining that the next retreat is about the love of God, and that God must be focused upon, as the ego does not have any power of its own, and that people will begin to shift their allegiance to the vertical dimension of life, and that by cultivating the courage to dedicate ourselves to God-Realization, all the capacities of God can be accessed.

Shunyamurti says that some people are saying that we're entering a dystopia, but that we're actually leaving the dystopia, explains his toe swelling, that we have to be beyond terratoriality ("extraterrtorestials"), that we must be detached from what is dying, that God wants us to achieve independence, goes over eating less in this time, and that the key is inner silence and being in a state of calm proportional to the chaos in Kali Yuga, to not depend on golden metal but golden light.

In this opening Meditation Weekend teaching, Shunyamurti speaks about meditation as a transformational approach to being, as the revelation of truth through having the courage, wisdom, and love to overcome anxiety and become enraptured in the motionless mind that is Self-realization.

Welcome to the be-dead-while-alive-stream, brought to you from the misty mountains of Costa Rica, from the Sat Yoga Ashram. Welcome to all of those who are attending the satsang online. We’re in the midst of our annual rainy season retreat here at the ashram, and we’ve been in relative silence for the last couple of weeks and with intense classes and meditations. So I’m sure that those who are here in this local space as well as those listening online will have interesting questions—no doubt profound questions about your own journey to Self-Realization. But actually, the whole process and the whole understanding is extremely simple, and really does not need to give rise to any questions—it should actually put all questions to an end. I think the ancient metaphor that’s most useful is simply that of the drop of rainwater that returns to the ocean. Perhaps a little more accurate would be a bubble of foam on a wave on the ocean, and when that ego bubble pops, there is only the ocean. And there was never anything but the ocean. And so if we understand consciousness to be an infinite ocean—an infinite field that is beyond time and space, in which the universe appears, but that appearance is nothing more than the foam on a wave within that ocean—then we understand that we have never left the original true Consciousness, that has no boundaries, no separate units. And all we need to do is let the bubble pop and we will realize that.

Question: The idea of a spiritual revolution is one that’s gaining traction, and the next retreat here in December is about that, it’s called “Advanced Training for Spiritual Revolutionaries”. So, my question is: what really is a spiritual revolutionary, and how will a spiritual revolution differ from the old revolutions that have come and gone and failed, whether political or pseudo-spiritual?

Shunyamurti explains the teachings that cannot be taught as well as how the world is unreal.

Shunyamurti reads again from the Padamalai, specifically focusing on Ramana's view on hatha yoga and its shortcomings, proposing instead atma vichara rather than trying to make effort to control the mind, which is always an effort of the mind itself.

Shunyamurti explains that yoga was developed as an attempt to return to the primordial state (since the beginning of Dwapar Yuga), but that it has devolved into a set of exercises, and discusses Ashtanga Yoga, which was not the original yoga and was based on the Sankhya philosophy, explaining the eight limbs (the Yamas/Niyamas, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana, Samadhi, Samyama) and going over them in detail, and explaining how they represent different phases of the spiritual path.

Shunyamurti reveals that the difficulty of meditation is that you think you know who you are, but that the key discovery of the ancient sages was that consciousness is impersonal and only learns to act like a person, identifying with the body, with demands of the parents, with patterns that become rigid, with a superego that makes it feel guilty and that it lives in a moral universe, and that if one wants one's "criminal record" wiped clean, then one more dissolve into the impersonal Absolute, which will manifest as love without desire.

Shunyamurti reveals that the Nataraj is a fairly recent statue that comes from the Chola dynasty, that before the only representation of Shiva that was allowed was the Shiva Lingam, and that Shiva is the Zero Point that is the fire/flame/agni, and elucidates more of the symbolism of the Nataraj, going through each aspect in detail

Shunyamurti reveals that the function of the Sat Yogi is to unify heaven and hell through the superior coherence of heavenly consciousness and the willingness to travel alone through the valley of the shadow of death, and that through this journey the gift of the wish-fulfilling jewel is given, which is what can bring about transformation to the entire holographic field.
