We interviewed Rasheed Chappell a few weeks ago in anticipation of he and Kenny’s “First Brick” - a mind melting return for the duo some 7 years after their first collaborative effort, “Future Before Nostalgia”. That interview led to us connecting with the legendary producer / DJ and a subsequent 1 hr interview! Kenny breaks down why it took him years to find an artist like Rasheed, why there was a 7 year gap between releases and what we can expect from the duo in the very near future. This is a special one folks - as we’ve mentioned numerous times over the past month, Southern Vangard is releasing new music this week for the first time since 2015, when we last gave you the “STANKY” EP from DOECINO, a group comprised of our own Eddie Meeks and DJ Jon Doe. This week, on Friday March 30th, Doe launches the first volume in his new “Maxi-Single Sessions” series. The concept is simple - Doe on the beats, and one MC / group on the rhymes, and we crank out a Maxi-Single. Remember back in the day when you’d cop a single with that Maxi-Single designation on it? It wasn’t just an A/B side single, but wasn’t an EP? It could be two or three joints, and then a remix or two thrown in? Well there you go! The first volume is with none other than ID4Windz of Scienz of Life fame, and we couldn’t have our interview session this week be with anyone else. We dig into the new project, what he has around the corner in 2018 as well as some personal things like family - his son just got a full ride to Princeton, ya’ll! We get into the history too - forming Scienz of Life with brother John Robinson, meeting Bobbito @ the Nuyorican Cafe and subsequently finding themselves on Fondle ‘Em Records, their move down South with Bigg Jus in the late 90s and how they ended up connecting with MF DOOM.
