Ep 60A MACRO VIEW ON THE MICROBIOME | Strengthening our Inner + Outer Ecosystems through Diversity with L.Ac Alfred Pomerleau
The human body contains trillions of microorganisms — outnumbering human cells by 10 to 1- and today we explore how vital these microbes have been to our evolution as a species and how crucial they are for our survival on the planet. We are thrilled to welcome back our very first guest, Nitsa's father and esteemed Doctor of Oriental Medicine Alfred Pomerleau to SOUNDFOOD. Alfred is an advanced acupuncturist, teacher, lecturer, nutrition expert and clinic supervisor, who has worked with over ten thousand individuals, guiding and empowering them on their journey to health. In this conversation, Nitsa and Alfred demystify the layers and functions of the microbiome, identify what a healthy microbiome looks like , unpack the significance of diversity and the brain:gut connection, the healing powers of whole and fermented foods, and share how we can help prevent inflammation and reverse metabolic syndromes through diet and lifestyle. Thank you Alfred, for your detailed knowledge and ability to both deepen and simplify optimal health. S2 Ep 48THE INFINITE GARDEN | Art, Slowness, Blockchain, and Unity Consciousness with Lani Trock
Today we reimagine the future of humankind in the most exquisitely loving and joyful way. We are honored to welcome Lani Trock, a brilliant force in thought, devotion, vision and creativity to SOUNDFOOD. A multi-disciplinary artist based in Los Angeles, Lani works with the ephemeral to facilitate planetary evolution, from seed to spirit. We explore her vision for a future post-capitalist society that is founded on collaboration, kindness, abundance, unity consciousness, and harmony; and which utilizes an ecological worldview, artistic freedom, blockchain technology and decentralized protocols to reflect the truth of what we are: an interconnected, symbiotic organism, in which each of us equally essential to the collective whole. Lani discusses the intention behind her current solo exhibition and so we blossom gently into the infinite garden which is on view at the Philosophical Research Society through December 3rd. The installation is Lani's latest offering of the national peace service (NPS), an ongoing project founded by the artist in 2017 which transforms radical thought experiments into tangible, temporary expressions to inspire our collective liberation. Today we drop into the big picture and celebrate the power of light, love and sound with sage and storyteller, Raghunath Cappo. With a sense of ecstatic presence and divine humor, our guest Raghunath envelopes us into what feels like a giant and juicy cosmic hug: we speak about his journey from singing in a punk band to becoming a monk and now serving as a beloved yoga teacher and conduit of Vedic lore through his Wisdom of the Sages podcast. S2 Ep 46THE FUNGAL DIMENSION: Living in Service to the Fungi with Giuliana Furci
Today we step into an alternate, healing dimension: into the realm of the Fungi. We are deeply honored to welcome Giuliana Furci, Foundress and CEO of the Fungi Foundation to SOUNDFOOD. Giuliana is the first female field mycologist in Chile, a Harvard University Associate, Dame of the Order of the Star of Italy, Co-Chair of the IUCN Fungal Conservation Committee, lecturer, author, mother, and a true fauna for Funga. Under her leadership, Chile became the first country in the world to include the Fungi Kingdom in its environmental legislation, thus allowing Chilean funga to be included in the study and evaluation of environmental impacts throughout the country. Giuliana's dedication to research and cultivating awareness around mycology is grounding and activating. She shares why it is crucial to include fungi in our entire framework; beginning with our educational and legal systems; while simultaneously recognizing the ancestral significance of how fungi (and yeast) connect us all through space, time and species. In our conversation, Giuliana also touches upon the breakthroughs which are now emerging in mycology. We honor Giuliana for her leadership and for being able to listen to what the fungi need without inserting her own agenda. Tune in to expand your perception of existence and harmonize with the vast and powerfully interconnected ecosystems beyond our human form! THE FUTURE IS FUNGI. Thank you Giuliana! S1 Ep 44FOOD IS LOVE: Nurturing our Underserved Communities and the Art of Showing Up with LaRayia Gaston
This episode is a straight-up wake up call that fresh foods are a human RIGHT, not a PRIVILEGE! We are honored to welcome LaRayia Gaston to SOUNDFOOD. Our candid, raw conversation cracks open the heart to let humanity flood in and shows how we can all take conscious action to redirect our food waste to feed our marginalized communities and learn to love without reason. Our guest LaRayia is the powerful, multidimensional force behind Lunch On Me, LaRayia's Bodega, Artist, Author of Love Without Reason and is an actual (cooking) saint! LaRayia is the living embodiment of nourishment; literally feeding 10,000 people a month in Los Angeles and now expanding to Atlanta! In our dialogue, LaRayia speaks about the insights she experienced while spending 43 days living on Skid Row while filming a documentary, shares how we can get more involved with her nonprofit Lunch On Me, why farm-to-table needs to break out of its elitist mold, how she maintains the highest integrity of food preparation and conscious cheffing for her "street fam", and the inspiration behind her first-ever organic 99 cents store LaRayia's Bodega which will open in its second location in Atlanta on October 1st. This dialogue delivers a powerful reminder that food is love, that we can make an impact through our micro-gestures and that people in fact DO have the power. And it all begins with learning to give a F%*k! Thank you LaRayia for sharing your light, wisdom, intuition, patience, respect and love for humanity with us. S1 Ep 41FLORAL RESONANCE: Tuning Into the Vibration of Healing and Flower Remedies with Alexis Smart
This episode serves as a gentle yet powerful reminder to us all that in order to heal physically, we must first examine our mental, emotional, energetic and spiritual health. And, the plants are here to help. We are honored to welcome the radiant and wise Alexis Smart to SOUNDFOOD. Today we journey under her expert guidance into the multidimensional, melodic world of flower remedies and the subtle energetics of healing. Alexis is a practitioner of homeopathy and the founder of Alexis Smart Flower Remedies - a beautifully curated line of flower remedies made with the highest quality organic, biodynamic and wild harvested Bach flower essences, following the lineage of Dr. Edward Bach. Alexis founded her flower remedy practice in 2004 out of a desire to help others to heal, as she learned how to heal herself of a serious illness; through flower essences, homeopathy and holistic medicine. Her experience working directly with clients over the past 18 years has deepened her understanding of human nature and showed her, first-hand, the link between emotional trauma and physical illness and the miraculous potential for healing when emotional balance is restored. In this episode, Alexis imparts many takeaways about the restorative properties of flower remedies, outlines how to choose the perfect remedy as a novice, opens up about her creative/formulating process, the environments that restore her spirit, and much more magic. Like musical notes, flower remedies vibrate at a uniquely resonant frequency, and have the ability to unify, heal us both individually and collectively. This conversation feels perfectly timed as it addresses the stress, uncertainty and loss of control that has been present in many of our lives over the past 18 months. Alexis literally embodies and gives voice to the much needed vibration of FLOWER POWER! Thank you, Alexis, for sharing your sincerity, wisdom, floral intelligence and golden heart with us. S1 Ep 39THE GANGSTA GARDENER: Planting Seeds of Freedom with Ron Finley
"Imagine Yourself Free and Think How Dangerous that can Be" Today we are honored to welcome the brilliant and brave Ron Finley aka "The Gangsta Gardener" to SOUNDFOOD. This is a powerful, liberating, playfully provocative episode rich in plant magic, energetic sovereignty and positive vibrations. Ron Finley is celebrated as "The Gangsta Gardener" as a result of his bold move to transform the barren parkway in front of his South Central LA home into an edible, urban oasis. Frustrated by his neigborhood's lack of access to fresh food, Finley planted his first tomato seeds in 2010; which initially earned him a police warning. However through his courage and diligence, these seeds eventually grew into a flourishing urban garden that has now blossomed into a larger movement for underserved communities worldwide. Today, Ron serves as activist, artist, horticulturist, global motivational speaker, and a pioneer in the urban-agricultural community. Ron's initiative, The Ron Finley Project, teaches communities how to transform food deserts into food sanctuaries and how to regenerate their own land into thriving ecosystems. Ron has empowered and inspired many young and underprivileged people to be the designers of their own lives. He continues to cultivate his own flourishing garden in inner city LA and inspires countless others to sow seeds where they are needed most. Ron is also on the curatorial team of the Destination Crenshaw Project; a 1.3 miles of art and culture celebrating Black Los Angeles. He is one of the national artists for the public art challenge Fertile Ground Project out of Jackson, Mississippi. He truly embodies interdisciplinary cretaivity and expression. Ron and Nitsa share an open, joyous and transparent dialogue that reflects the multidimensional vibrancy of The Garden itself. Ron's words invoke a very grounded call to action: not only for food security but also to inspire others to truly LIVE. This is a conversation not to be missed. Take it outside and listen as you soak up some sunlight and fresh oxygen if you can! Thank you for tuning in. If you are able to donate to SOUNDFOOD we would be so grateful for your support. S1 Ep 38THE FIFTH SEASON: When Summer Ripens into Autumn with Colin Hudon
We find ourselves in a magical and gently powerful time of the year. Indian Summer, or the forgotten "fifth season" blooms: fruits ripen and fall from the tree, time slows, and evenings are warm and soft as we prepare for the final harvest. Now is the time to tune into the seasonal rhythms of Earth and embrace the sense of wholeness and balance Late Summer offers as we transition to Autumn. In today's episode of SOUNDFOOD, we welcome back the brilliant Colin Hudon. Colin is the founder of Living Tea, owner of Mountain Gate Teahouse & Art Gallery, acupuncturist, practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine and one of our favorite human beings. In our conversation we explore how to nourish, protect and support the system as we shift from the element of metal to earth; from the external to internal. Colin guides us through this transition through a TCM lens and shares why and how this time is fundamental to our wellbeing. He invites us to refine our relationship with nature and pay closer attention to how we nourish ourselves through food, meditation, activities - and of course - tea! This episode is steeped with love and wisdom and will draw your consciousness inward, wherever you are. Settle in with a bowl of tea and tune in to the nourishing hummm that comes with stillness. Thank you Colin for sharing your deep presence and insights! Thank you for tuning in. If you are able to donate to SOUNDFOOD we would be so grateful for your support. S1 Ep 37REUNITY RESOURCES: Revitializing the Soil and Soul with Juliana Ciano
This episode is pure nourishment for the soul and soil! We are delighted to welcome Juliana Ciano - neurodivergent educator, mother and co-founder of the beloved local organization Reunity Resources to SOUNDFOOD. Juliana's commitment to a holistic system of pedagogy can be seen and felt in all of her endeavours. Her refreshing, grass-roots perspective is deeply inspiring. Since co-founding Reunity Resources in 2011, Juliana has worked to build a next level compost programming that now diverts 1.5 million pounds of food waste from the Santa Fe landfill annually! According to the New Mexico Recyling Coalition, in the USA alone, 40% of food (at an annual cost of $100 billion) is wasted each year and goes directly into the landfill. Meanwhile, 50 million people go hungry every year. Food represents 14.5% of the waste stream in America (EPA). Organic materials, of which food waste is a significant component which are disposed of in landfills generate methane, a greenhouse gas that is 21x more potent than carbon monoxide. Additionally, 13% of greenhouse gases in the US are associated with growing, manufacturing, transporting, and disposing of food. Bottomline: we are wasting tons of precious energy on our WASTE itself. And yet, there is a simple and tangible solution: compost! Juliana's commitment and scrappy, down- to-earth mindset offers a beautiful and powerful example of how the shift can begin in our own communities and kitchens. Reunity Resources has expanded from gathering unwanted cooking oil from local Santa Fe restaurants, to composting en masse, cultivating its own farm and being of service to the community through education, programming and, of course, growing and sharing (human and soil) food! In this episode, Juliana reveals her passion for giving back to the endlessly generous Earth. She shares her wisdom regarding all things composting, mulching and how we can observe from plants, the importance of intersectional connectivity. This conversation will nurture the desire to close the loop from farm to table and mind to heart; increase your mindfulness about food waste, and inspire you to make more meaningful connections with the people, plants, music and the abundance of energy around you every day. Thank you for tuning in. If you are able to donate to SOUNDFOOD we would be so grateful for your support. Everything and anything you can give helps us continue to share these conversations with the world. Infinite gratitude! S1 Ep 36THE FUTURE IS SYMBIOTIC: Radical Indigenism and Lo-TEK Design with Julia Watson
Today we look to the ancient technologies of indigenous ecosystems to provide guidance for the future (and survival) of humanity in the face of climate change. We are thrilled to welcome designer, activist, academic, and author, Julia Watson to SOUNDFOOD. Julia is a leading expert in the field of Lo—TEK nature-based technologies for the built environment and climate-resilient design. Her bestselling book with Taschen, Lo-TEK: Design by Radical Indigenism has been featured in The New York Times, The Guardian, Monocle, Architectural Digest, and more. Regularly teaching at Harvard and Columbia University, Julia's studio work involves landscape and urban design, along with public speaking and consulting with brands on sustainability. In her studio, she collaborates with a horticulturist as Watson Salembier, with a focus on rewilding, and has just completed the summer gardens for Rockefeller Center using a native plant palette inspired by the American meadow. Julia has written for Topos, Landscape Architecture Frontier, ioARCH, Kerb, Water Urbanisms East and co- authored A Spiritual Guide to Bali's UNESCO World Heritage. She's a 2020 TED speaker, and a fellow of Summit REALITY, Pop!tech, & The Christensen Fund. Born in Australia, she regularly treks across the globe. Above all, Julia is a master observer. In today's conversation, she reflects on the greater understanding that has been revealed to her through her explorations of Earth's sacred spaces- what makes them sacred, who makes them sacred, and whether those experiences can be recreated in design. Her combination of extensive research and awareness of natural processes has resulted in the most visually stunning, nutrient dense, empowering, design forward book we could dream of. Julia possesses an exquisitely comprehensive view of the world, with attention to both the micro and macro, she has dedicated herself to applying critical thinking and understanding of indigenous ingenuity to the design of modern, climate resilient technologies. Through her eyes and mind, we have a glimpse into the ways that global communities have interactacted synergistically with nature for millenia. Watson invites us all to reflect on what we can learn from the past and present to envision what a Lo—TEK future could behold. Thank you Julia for sharing your wisdom, insights, and vision with us! S1 Ep 35THE SACRED LANGUAGE OF PLANTS: Floral Meditation, Herbal Alchemy & Botanical Resonance with Kate Clearlight
Have you dropped in with your local gardens, communed with the plant kingdom or simply said hello to the flowers around you recently? Our guest this week will inspire you to (re)direct your attention to spend time with these beautiful and wise beings every day. We welcome the deeply magical alchemist, folk herbalist, fellow starseed and "plant whisperer" Kate Clearlight to SOUNDFOOD. In this episode, Kate shares how plants have helped her tune into her highest and most authentic self. She explains how these verdant beings are eager to be our friends and all we have to do is be present and allow their loving intelligence to flow through. Along with being an active gardener, wild forager and advocate for flora, Kate is the founder of the coveted, high-vibrational brand Plant Folk. In our conversation, she describes the human and nonhuman support systems that have nourished her along her healing journey; eventually guiding her curation of the much sought after Plant Folk products - all of which literally fly off the shelf! Kate discusses how quickly her herbal apothecary grew: from making small, handcrafted batches in her home and selling at farmer's markets, to now serving a growing list of clients, and being promoted on platforms such as Vogue. Kate opens about how she has rooted into reciprocity and integrity as her business grows and shares grounded and clear recommendations on where to source herbs, how we can begin connecting and meditating with plants, as well as personal practices that help her dive more deeply into a state of service every day. Listening to her, we can not help but share the profound and expansive gratitude she feels towards the soil, (micro)organisms and all beings on Earth. Get cozy, grab your favorite herbal infusion and soak this one up. Thank you Kate! Thank you for tuning in. If you are able to donate to SOUNDFOOD we would be so grateful for your support. S1 Ep 34GO LIGHTLY: Regenerative Travel, Authentic Living and Growing through Stillness with Nina Karniwoski
Today's episode is a gentle and illuminating reminder that in order to see the most beautiful parts of the Earth, we must first actively protect and deeply respect her. Our guest today, Nina Karnikowski, is an author and travel writer who invites others to think twice before they, well, travel. An Australian native with a home base in Byron Bay, Nina had written about and traveled to over 60 countries before experiencing a personal awakening on a work trip to Antarctica that transformed her life trajectory. From that point on, Nina began to slow down and rethink the impact travel has on climate change. In the years since, she has courageously flipped her decade-long travel writing career on its head in order to commit to and reframe conscious travel and living and has released two magical books: Go Lightly, How to Travel Without Hurting the Planet and Make a Living Living, Be Successful Doing What You Love. Along with being a prolific writer and author, she is first and foremost a sustainability advocate, Earth ally, creative powerhouse and Lover of the Natural World. This conversation feels perfectly timed as the pandemic restrictions lift and we venture out of our homes. Nina's latest book, Go Lightly, was released this Spring and serves as a sort of high-vibe handbook that answers to her commitment to low impact travel: by inspiring and educating readers on how to explore our fascinating planet without causing it further harm. In this episode, Nina imparts many takeaways on how to travel the Earth without recklessly deepening our carbon footprint, how to practice more conscientious travel and off put emissions when we do visit faraway places, the importance of showing (and paying) reverence to local communities, her creative process, spiritual journey and how to be grateful for all that's just within reach. We also get a sweet, intimate and candid look at how her marriage continues to light her up after 10 years of partnership! Thank you Nina, for your wisdom and your heart. Thank you for tuning in. S1 Ep 33QUEER BROWN VEGAN: Food Ethics, Education and Environmental Equity with Isaias Hernandez
Today's episode is a complete treat for anyone who wants to learn more about food security, intersectionality, social - environmental justice and how to take action to live a more balanced, conscientious and informed life. We are delighted to welcome the sweet and sage Isaias Hernandez to SOUNDFOOD. Isaias is an environmental educator and activist, vegan, entrepreneur, public speaker, digital marketer, and creator of Queer Brown Vegan- an educational platform that seeks to share the spectrum of environmentalism through graphics, illustrations, and videos (and very delicious vegan recipes!) Isaias grew up in Los Angeles, CA where he witnessed environmental injustices through his unique perspective as a BIPOC and LGBTQIA person. It was those disparities that inspired him to obtain a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science from UC Berkeley. Wise beyond his years, he has gained experience in a variety of diversity inclusion work in environmental spaces, academic research, and creative work. We discuss Isaias' focus on creating food security in communities, the importance of buying local food, what sustainability actually means, avoiding "vegan capitalism" and seeing through "rainbow washing" and more. Isaias also has a reverence and sensitivity for Indigenous cultures that govern so much of his personal practices and convictions. This conversation imparts as much wisdom for the mind as it does nourishment for the heart and soul. Thank you Isaias for joining us! Thank you for tuning in. S1 Ep 31DEMYSTIFYING THE BEAN PROTOCOL: Food as Medicine and the Healing Powers of Legumes with Unique Hammond
Today's episode of SOUNDFOOD will change the way you look at beans and illuminate their incredible potential to heal both the human body and planet. We are joined by Bean Protocol Advocate and Health Coach Unique Hammond. The Bean Protocol is a liver detox process first developed by biochemist Karen Hurd to treat her young daughter for pesticide poisoning, but now has evolved to include followers from around the globe. Unique first came to the protocol under Karen's mentorship as she sought to heal her body from her years of struggling with Crohn's disease. She now shares her devotion and passion for the protocol by coaching and healing others. Unique is a holistic nutritionist, Bean Protocol Coach, self-proclaimed "cultivator of calm", and author of Your Tastebuds Are A**holes as well as an upcoming book called The Bean Protocol. While using food as medicine to treat her Crohn's disease, Unique unlocked the power that beans have to correct hormonal imbalances, gut issues, and many other ailments. Our conversation dives deeply and intimately into Unique's healing journey and her phenomenal trust in the process. She is a firm believer and advocate for listening to your body, interpreting what it's saying, and acting on its requests. We also explore some of the connections Nitsa and Unique have growing up in Big Sur as well as other harmonious bonds. This episode will surely make you reawaken to your senses and trust in the intelligence and strength of your body. Thank you for tuning in. S1 Ep 30FLORA, FAUNA, FOREST: Communing with Plants and the Restorative Powers of the Earth with Molly Helfend
Today's episode is humming with knowledge, living nutrients, ecology and joy. We welcome interdisciplinary healer and ally of the natural world, Molly Helfend. Originally from the Santa Monica Mountains, she now calls the cliffs of New Zealand home but makes Nature itself her official residence. Her commitment to mother earth began at a young age: protesting the Keystone XL pipeline and interning with Greenpeace and working with Rainforest Action Network to develop campaigns against palm oil plantations in the Sumatran Rainforest. Later, Molly's environmental work and activism took a serendipitous turn into ethnobotany, herbalism, and education. Molly now works across the globe as an ethnobotanist, herbalist, natural health practitioner, creative, content director, visual artist, educator, world traveler and writer. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Studies and Holistic Health from the University of Vermont, Masters of Science in Ethnobotany from the University of Kent, and researched her Masters thesis in New Zealand studying the correlation between the Maori concept Kaitiakitanga translated as "guardianship of nature and plant life". She has endeavored to embody that philosophy in her work as a herbalist and naturopath, as well as in her personal life, while maintaining a commitment to indigenous cultural competency and responsibility. In our conversation, Molly graciously opens up to us about intimate, life changing experiences such as fighting a parasite she developed from the Cook Islands and experiencing copper poisoning from an IUD that led her on a healing journey working with natural remedies. These experiences have inspired her to educate others on all the powers of plants, herbs, and holistic medicine. She shares her insights with us in an open, transparent and informative dialogue that reminds us of our innate interconnectedness with Earth and the healing potential within the ecological lens. Thank you Molly for sharing your wisdom and light with us! Thank you for tuning in. If you are able to donate to SOUNDFOOD we would be so grateful for your support. S1 Ep 29FARM TO CLOSET: Beyond Sustainability, Healing through Land Stewardship, Radical Reciprocity, and Regenerative Design with Christy and Aras Baskauskas of Christy Dawn
Today's episode is an active invitation to consider the source and intimacy of the food that we wear — our clothing. Because for most of us, unless we live in a nudist colony, we all wear some form of clothing. With this in mind, we are delighted to welcome the founders of Christy Dawn Aras and Christy Baskauskas to SOUNDFOOD. Also known as "The Firekeeper and The Alchemizer" their LA / India-based clothing line is revolutionizing the fashion industry, from soil to seed to dress. Christy Dawn illuminates the positive and negative impact fashion can have on the planet and offers tangible hope (in the forms of beautiful dresses) to regenerate the planet. In their words, "Sustainability is not enough. Now it's time to heal." Christy and Aras are partners on all levels: lovers, parents, nurturers, farmers, healers, creatives, entrepreneurs, and naturalists. They began with a vision to create a new, resourceful approach to fashion (and in Aras's words "make rent") and have since evolved into full life-cycle clothing creators and business visionaries. Christy Dawn's Farm-to-Closet initiative is one of the first in the industry to experiment with deepening its intimacy with the soil and farmers through the integration of regenerative and indigenous farming methods, while also having measurable carbon capture success. They lease, harvest and heal the land for their cotton, design each piece, and pour their heart and souls into bringing their collection to the community. Our conversation explores the journey of Christy Dawn: starting with leftover deadstock fabric and winding through the pathways of growth that lead them to eventually collaborate with Oshadi Collective to transform barren land in Erode, India into a thriving regenerative cotton farm. Christy and Aras graciously share the story of their humble beginnings, creative process, commitment to the regenerative model and symbiotic systems, shared hope to enact an industry-wide change, and most of all their growing commitment to heal the Earth. S1 Ep 27RADICAL SELF AWARENESS: Rooting into Authenticity, Biorhythms, and Rituals for Self Care with Rocío Graves
Today's episode will support all of our listeners to reconnect and tune into our highest, most authentic selves. In the blossoming of Spring, we are nourished by this heart-opening conversation with the magical and loving Rocío Graves. Rocío has been through the seasons of life: from heartbreak, to chronic health issues, to spiritual rebirth and healing, we now find her in a joyous and healthy explosion of self-creativity: exploring cooking, gardening, poetry, unconventional self care and through it all: embracing a transformational philosophy of slowness. Rocío is a true advocate for self evolution and humanity. She is a food alchemist, writer, chef, dancer, activist, food photographer, healer, steward of the land, and unique voice for sustainability. She received her BA in Human Rights in 2010 in London where she first dove into learning about water and farmer's rights and later continued to explore through her studies of biodiverse regenerative farming and seed saving at vandana shiva's organic farm and organisation 'navdanya. While Rocío's travels have taken her around the world, including to India (where she began her healing journey into Ayurveda) we now find her grounded, full circle, in her birthplace of Mallorca, Spain. Our conversation highlights what Rocío has been able to embody so beautifully; honoring one's Self. We explore routine, food, self-care, inner work, and all the pathways that lead to healing. Rocío highlights that through our journey in self-love, we recognize our interconnectedness with each other, the Earth, the Cosmos, and beyond. Thank you for tuning in. If you are able to donate to SOUNDFOOD we would be so grateful for your support. Everything and anything you can give helps us continue to share these conversations with the world. S1 Ep 26THREE GENERATIONS: Motherhood, Lineage & Ancestral Healing with Anna May and Heather Christensen
Today's dialogue is intimate and very precious. As we continue to celebrate our Mother Earth in all her forms, we are delighted and honored to welcome our host Nitsa Citrine's Mother and Grandmother to the podcast. Heather and Anna share their life journey and evolutions, Christensen family traditions, intuitive connection to nature and enthusiasm for holistic living, all of which they have passed down to Nitsa. Anna May Christensen is a grounded and wise mother, grandmother, Master gardener, lover of beauty, advocate of natural medicine and, as Heather calls her, a "true saint". Heather Christensen is a certified 5 Rhythms, aerial yoga, dance and movement artist. She has founded several dance studios - offering innovative and interdisciplinary dance since the 1990s, including her current studio Dance Yogis and the Laughing Mama - where Nitsa grew up. Heather trained as a dancer at Juilliard and worked for years as a professional modern and ballet dancer before coming West to study under Gabrielle Roth at Esalen institute and eventually develop her own unique styles of movement and healing arts. As three generations of Projectors, we dive into our Human Design and astrology, individual personalities, gratitude and memories. Our conversation spans many lifetimes as we delight in the reverence we have for our family thread, building upon the health consciousness inherent in each generation, our relationship to dance, the shared connection to holistic medicine and food, and the many lessons we've learned from one another. This episode highlights how Motherhood comes in all shapes and sizes, and hopefully will impart precious wisdom, healing gratitude and tenderness for all beings….. We all came into this world through the womb! Thank you for tuning in. If you are able to donate to SOUNDFOOD we would be so grateful for your support. SUNDAY SUPPER with Allie Crow Buckley
bonusSUNDAY SUPPER the newest offering from SOUNDFOOD. The experience begins with an open format interview with our host Nitsa Citrine and the artist, accompanied by live performance art or sound immersion and closes with a Q+A where our community is invited into the dialogue. The invitation is to slow down, tune inward, and receive creative resonance on this sacred day of rest. We invite you to drop in with us and begin listening. Our first recorded SUNDAY SUPPER was hosted March 7th featuring the radiant Allie Crow Buckley. S1 Ep 13CREATING A SAFE SPACE FOR DIVERSITY: Examining Bias, Privilege and the colonial framework to reimagine Equality, Inclusivity and Equity for all Beings with Val Harvey
Our guest on SOUNDFOOD is the incredibly brilliant, strong, courageous, inspiring and multi-talented Valerie Harvey. Val is a Los Angeles-based makeup artist with an impressive roster of clients in her portfolio. She continues to follow her passion by cultivating beauty (inside and out!) with her clients and recently became a Cornell University Certified Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Instructor. This month, Val will be launching a podcast, "On the Bias" about dissecting race within the beauty and fashion industry. In this episode, she so graciously creates a safe space where we discuss all things diversity, equity and inclusion. She also shares about her life experience, including moving to the States from her birth place, Panama, growing up and then leaving the Jehovah's Witnesses, breaking into a mostly white industry as a BIPOC as well as her different identities and textures as a Black and Latina woman. In this episode we open up a conscious dialogue around race, intersectionality, privilege and biases and how to actively deprogram our societal conditioning, systemic bias and the fear that polarizes communities. This episode was so powerful, we brought Val back on for a hands-on workshop on how to integrate some of this diversity training and awareness into our daily lives. Thank you for tuning in.
