When we met Larry he was literally shaking in his boots. Could have been from the excitement of recording an episode of Sickboy, but it's more likely due to the Parkinson's disease. It's an episode full of horrible puns and we touch on, hallucinations, gene hunting, Levodopa Carbidopa (the drug, not the children's folksong warning of evil witches in the woods.) Doctors make for horrible patients”. This week we speak with Michelle, a practicing psychiatrist, who has a history of depression. BUT WAIT?! A Psychiatrist isn't allowed to be depressed! They are the person the depressed people go to for help. Right? Think again. We dive into devastating suicidal thoughts, being admitted alongside a past patient, healthcare fraud and Brian doing HARD time and much more. With 7 hospitalizations from suicidal thoughts/attempts Mark is no stranger to the mental health system. Mark Henick dedicated his life from an early age to opening minds and creating change. Now he regularly speaks to diverse audiences about mental health, mental illness, suicide, advocacy, recovery, and hope. Mark’s TEDx talk on suicide is among the most watched in the world.

While we were in Austin, TX we had an opportunity to make a new friend named Tom who most definitely has both of his balls and never had testicular cancer. But he DID have the one blood cancer to rule them all, Hodgkins Lymphoma! We learn about how blood cancer isn't just a bunch of tumours floating around in your bloodstream, how your fathers Golf buddy might just save your life, the side effects of poisonous cancer meds, and the secret location of all your next airbnb sex toys.

This week the boys are joined by figure skating superstar, Melissa Julian! They dive into figure skating jargon, equipment, and how adorbies Scott Moir and Tessa Virtue are... oh and they also discuss that one time when Melissa severed her femoral artery at the Moncton fourplex and nearly bled to death. He's 3x the size of Jeremie. He eats 10,000 calories a day. He pushes dump trucks down the street for fun and he's kicking the living sh*t out of cancer. From painful burps, to blood blasting out of your nose, to mega casual doctors, to accepting death, the boys take a deep dive into the world of Leukemia, cancer and hulking out. I’ve been following Silicon Valley since its first season and have fallen in love with Ehrlich Bachman as he parades around with in his kimono, taking bong hits and pretending as if he is cut from the same technological and entrepreneurial cloth as Steve Jobs or Mark Zuckerberg, simultaneously unable to collect rent from the characters on the show that live in his pizza box ridden home. It can be easy to forget that some of our favourite characters on our most beloved shows are real people, with real lives, with the same shitty hands the rest of us are sometimes dealt. TJ Miller is one such person that flirted with death at a young age when he found he had been living with a brain malformation for his entire life. Most people with this condition simply die unexpectedly in their mid 30’s, having never known of the fatal malformation that was always there. Luckily for TJ, the copious alcohol consumption and lack of sleep while filming Yogi Bear 3D lead to a hospital visit that revealed his brain malformation and made him confront the decision of going under the knife and risking death on the surgeon’s table to fix his brain. It’s the things that come up for us when death is strolling around in our neighbourhood, nearby, but not quite knocking on our door. What does it mean to communicate with your sick partner? How do you go about solving the mental puzzle of a manic state? How can a community of people who have such a profound experience in common like being chronically ill elevate each other by telling their story? These are a few of the topics we tackled with in our conversation with TJ Miller, and we couldn’t be more excited to share it with you. TJ Miller is an original cast member and star of HBO’s Silicon Valley as well as appearing in blockbusters such as Transformers, Deadpool & the upcoming Deadpool 2, and of course, Yogi Bear 3D. Although big screen success has been good to him, he is first and foremost an extremely talented and international standup comic.

This week on Sickboy we sit down with Josh and dive into PTSD, life as a paramedic and a long journey with debilitating Crohn's disease. The boys try to wrap their heads around a mental illness that dates back to a traumatic childhood and how a struggle with Crohn’s caused Josh to look at how worth while it was to keep living. Now a proud father of two, Josh strives to connect with his children with affection and love, breaking the cycle that created his struggle with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

This week on Sickboy, the guys sit down with founder of Rethink Breast Cancer, MJ DeCoteau. After losing her mother and grandmother to breast cancer she was inspired to rethink the way we talk about this illness. Reimagining dated and impersonal initiatives, she steered the movement towards a younger demographic and gave them the resources to understand how to cope. The guys dive into MJ’s story of personal loss, learn about boob health, bust some boob cancer myths, and (most importantly) find out about a raging party that you don’t want to miss.
