EShelley Wiart is Métis and a member of the North Slave Métis Alliance, Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. She is currently enrolled full-time at Athabasca University in her fourth year of a four-year B.A degree – Concentration: Sociology, Minor: Women & Gender Studies. She is the proud mother to three girls and has a passion for running and fitness. Shelley is the co-founder of an Indigenous-focused holistic health program, Women Warriors aimed at improving Indigenous women’s health outcomes. She facilitated this health promotions program from 2015-2018 and co-authored the 8 Weeks to Healthy Living manual. On June 9th 2013 Maia and her mother were hit by a drunk driver. The accident resulted in years of recovery. Coma, avascular necrosis, scheduled amputation and more. Luckily for the world, Maia and her mother are still here! We hope that their story will make people think twice about getting behind the wheel while intoxicated. Upon the day of releasing this episode, Maia has just returned home from a fusion/bone marrow transplant. She is in for a long long road to recovery and could use some positive vibes and love.
