Ep 213213 Lena Gothberg, Host and Producer, Shipping Podcast
In my honest opinion Every conversation matters. That is something that I have realised over the years of producing the Shipping Podcast. We need to talk about the change we want, and we need to speak about what we want to achieve. And we need to listen to people with other viewpoints to understand the pain points and how we can make them less painful. Where do I find the Stars of the Sea to be guests on the Shipping Podcast? I often get that question, and here I spill the beans. Do you have anything to say after listening to this solo episode? Please drop me a line at [email protected] Thank you for listening.

Ep 211211 Next generation shipping, part 2
What do the young people in our industry think about the future? Be comfortable to be uncomfortable; it's crucial when working at sea. The next generation of leaders is singing the same old song; We need to promote working in shipping since hardly anyone knows what it's like. It's the same old Cinderella story. It's time for us to do something about that! Otherwise, the explanations to friends and family will continue for generations. But, unfortunately, we do not have the time for that; we have more enormous challenges! What can you do to spread the word? Do you want to collaborate? Drop me a line at [email protected] and let me know. #everyconversationmatters

Parenthood at sea According to the IMO, 2% of seafarers are women at sea. I wonder what the percentage of Mummies at sea is!? Like 0.01%!!?! Less!!?! A post on LinkedIn sparked my curiosity. Heather Enness, Master Mariner and mother of three, posted the above. Young people I meet in the maritime industry get questions about if they don't want to have a family since they are going to work at sea. Ep 168168 Agneta Dahl, Director, Exercises & Preparedness, NJ Resources, Inc.
Meet Agneta Dahl, a Certified Master Exercise Practitioner (MEP) and an expert in incident management and risk assessment who actually get paid to create mayhem. Agneta is passionate about the ocean and everything therein. She started her career in medical school, went into research and, like most of the people in the maritime industry, stumbled into this fascinating world. Agneta joined the US Coast Guard and worked with marine environmental protection and oil spill response. Nowadays, after she left the USCG, she does more of the same in her current position. We talked a lot about the impact of digitalisation, how the pandemic has changed the way we work, how interesting it is to work remote and what the future might hold. What is your view? Did Agneta's story spark something in you? Let us know what you think; we are both waiting to hear from you. Thank you for listening. Feedback to [email protected]

Ep 167167 Captain John Konrad, founder and CEO of gCaptain
Captain John Konrad is THE influencer in the maritime industry. He started the gCaptain, which is currently the largest media outlet in the maritime domain. John is equally interested in changing the narrative for the maritime industry as I am. We agree that we need to work together to create sustainable marketing for and about the maritime industry. No one speaks about Über in the Silicon Valley anymore, they talk about Flexport, and they talk about the maritime industry." John is a big fan of Greta Thunberg; she says things people don't want to hear. But, that is what we also need to do; talk about the good and the bad in our industry. If we don't acknowledge the problems we have as an industry, then we cannot solve them - and become better. We discuss so many things in this episode, I learned a lot, and I think John gave some real food for thoughts. What is your view? Give us a shout-out, we are on social media, and we each have a webpage where you can comment. This is a discussion worth having. Thank you for listening. Stay safe.

Ep 166166 Dr Jason Zuidema, Executive Director, North American Maritime Ministry Association
We continue the discussion about; what is a fair future for seafarers? Dr Jason Zuidema, Executive Director, North American Maritime Ministry Association, NAMMA, share his view on what we need to do to make seafarers keyworkers. He says it's about respect and using the instruments already in place. Abandonment in 2021 is a disgrace. Also, seafarers must be able to trust that they get paid. Jason thinks seafaring it's an honourable profession. Seafarers are very proud to be seafarers; it's the uncertainty that is wearing down. It's not the hard work or the hardship that comes with leaving loved ones; it's the uncertainty of now knowing when you come back the next time or if you get paid. In the end, Jason does a call for support of seafarers; everyone can do something to show kindness to international seafarers. Make sure you listen to the end. What is your view on what Jason says, I'd love to hear from you. Thanks for listening.
