S5 Ep 283283 - A Final Girl Ghostface: Opinions on the Original Plan for Sam Carpenter

E

Skeet Ulrich recently shared that the original plan for Scream 5-Scream 6-Scream 7 was for Billy Loomis to slowly turn his daughter and main character, Sam Carpenter, into the Ghostface killer. While, Scream 7 reverted the storyline back to Sidney Prescott, this news puts into perspective odd choices about Scream 5 & 6 and an uncomfortable trend in modern horror films' messaging. In this episode, Ryan is joined by Jacob from the Happy Horror Time podcast to discuss the problematic nature and execution of Sam Carpenter's development in Scream 5 & 6, her strange morality about murder, and how it speaks to the larger culture. Then, Ryan is joined by Amar, Josh, Sarah, and Ashley to debate the concept of Sam as Ghostface in the hypothetical Scream 7 film we almost had: Would Sam have faced off against Sidney, the good final girl vs. the bad final girl? Would we have seen Sam stalking her slasher victims, or would the film have taken a "Fight Club" subjective approach? S5 Ep 270270 - Scream 7 Fears: What Could Go Wrong?

E

Ryan spent the last two years unflinchingly standing in solidarity with Neve Campbell and the Scream franchise, and supported continuing on with Scream 7. A vast majority of fans believe the trailer for Scream 7 is terrific and this entry has some of the greatest potential ever in the series due to the talent involved. However, in an effort to display objectivity, this episode explores potential red flags of Scream 7 and what could go wrong despite the high hopes and optimism. Ryan focuses concerns on the identity of Ghostface and his/her motive, while Jess Melendez worries about the big-picture relevancy of Scream 7 in a chapter of Sidney's story. 'The Final Scream' Script by Joe Vallese, Coming Dec. 19 (Trailer)

trailer

"The Final Scream," the third and final spec script written LA-Times best-selling writer, Joe Vallese, will be released on the SWRCS podcast on December 19, 2025, on the heels of the Scream (1996) anniversary and the holiday season. This script follows "Scream 7" (the end of the Carpenter sister era, episode 112) and "Screams (a Gale-centric script, episode 155). "The Final Scream" completes this SWRCS trilogy by focusing on Sidney's family (two younger daughters, unlike Tatum in the upcoming Scream 7) and her marriage to Mark Kinciad (not Evans, like in the upcoming Scream 7). The plot is: Sidney Prescott's sense of peace and security is unmoored by the revelation of a dark secret - and a slew of new Ghostface murders hitting too close to home. We hope this script provides some closure to the Sidney/Mark Kincaid fans since Patrick Dempsey did not return for the feature film releasing in February. "The Final Scream" is emotional and contemplative, yet it's also epic and wide in scope. Gale Weathers also assumes an important role and the arc of the film ties into the fabric of the original trilogy. Like the past two scripts, "The Final Scream" will be read aloud by Ryan like an audio book and released as a podcast episode. The script itself will be available to Patreon subscribers Tier 2 and above to read. We hope to see everyone on December 19 for the premiere!
