This week Baxie talks to Michael Pickering—one of the former DJs at the infamous Hacienda in Manchester, England. Michael has just released his incredible memoir, “Manchester Must Dance”. In it, Michael takes a firsthand account of how the club became an extension of Factory Records (And how it was financed, in part, by the record sales of two its biggest artists: New Order and Happy Mondays.) Together we talk about how the club succeeded and what led to the Hacienda’s spectacular collapse. We also talk about his participation in the film "24-Hour Party People" about the Hacienda changed music forever. On top of that, we also discuss how he adopted the help of writer Paul Morley, Johnny Marr from The Smiths, Martin Fry from ABC, Calvin Harris, and Noel Gallagher from Oasis! We even talk about Michael’s amazing music career after Hacienda! A great interview with a seminal figure in Manchester’s fascinating music history. Baxie talks to one of his favorites--Jon Langford from The Mekons! Music Journalist Lester Bangs once wrote that “The Mekons are the most revolutionary group in the history of Rock & Roll”. Baxie speaks with Dutch author and visual artist Bette Adriaanse (Bette A.). For the second time in less than a year Bette has teamed up with the legendary Brian Eno to produce two separate projects. The first of which to collaborate on the book “What Art Does: An Unfinished Theory”. Their second collaboration is a full multi-media presentation called “Slow Stories”. This is a collection of two short stories that Bette has been developing over the last twenty years. The stories have been set to a stunning musical score composed by Brian Eno—combined with visuals created by both Bette and Eno specifically for this project. “Slow Stories” is set to be released on March 3rd. And Bette talks about all of it as well as about her friendship with Brian—one of music’s most legendary producers (Talking Heads, David Bowie, U2, Peter Gabriel, and more!) Baxie talks with legendary record executive Harold Bronson from Rhino Records! Harold talks about his amazing career. First, as a young writer from UCLA’s Daily Bruin and Rolling Stone Magazine to co-owning one of the most respected independent record companies in America. Rhino was a company that began in the early 1970's that began specializing in releasing reissued music. But the Rhino's story goes much deeper than that. Harold is currently promoting the music of his band, Morgan David and His Winos. This was a band that he started in high school with several friends--all of whom would become true heavyweights in the music industry. After releasing several singles (before the start of Rhino Records), their music is being republished for the first time in nearly 50 years! The album is called "Savage Young Whinos".
