Baxie talks to the legendary Tony Levin! Since the early 1970's Tony Levin has been one of the most sought-after bass players in history! His accomplishments as a musician are astounding. While he's been primarily known for playing on every Peter Gabriel album, he's also known for his work with King Crimson. On top of that Tony has also lent his amazing talents for more than 500 other albums. And that number continues to grow. These include sessions with John Lennon, Pink Floyd, Paul Simon, Buddy Rich, Stevie Knicks, Warren Zevon, and many others. He is also responsible for popularizing the Chapman Stick. He also been responsible for creating something known as "Funk Fingers" (Which you can hear on Peter Gabriel's "Sledgehammer") Tony has just released a fantastic new solo album "Bringing it Down to the Bass". He's also currently touring with BEAT--a band that includes his former King Crimson bandmate guitarist Adrian Belew (who's been a guest on this podcast), guitarist Steve Vai, and drummer Danny Carey from Tool! BEAT will be playing at the Shubert Theater in Boston on October 10th and at the Bushnell Theater in Hartford on December 3rd. Tony talks about all of that and more! Just amazing! Their story has not only been featured in an amazing documentary; “Born Innocent” it’s also being told in an upcoming memoir entitled “Now You’re One of Us”! On top of that, Redd Kross has just released their 9th album—their self-titled double album (which is arguably one of the best of their career). Baxie talks to one of his all time favorites—multi-instrumentalist Harold “Happy” Chichester! Happy’s incredible career began with the Columbus, Ohio based band The Royal Crescent Mob! This was a band that was (and continues to) to hold a special place in my home collection of entirely too many records. But his career hardly stopped there. He was a one-time member of The Afghan Whigs, The Twilight Singers, and Howlin’ Maggie! On top of that he’s release three amazing solo records. He was also heavily courted by Dave Grohl to join The Foo Fighters (an offer he turned down to keep working on his own music). Grohl has even referred to him as one of the best songwriters in America (which I agree with!). It’s a special episode with a guy that I’ve wanted to talk to for the last 40 years. She's released three albums of covers--including last year's "Juliana Hatfield Sings ELO". Plus, she released several records with her first band, The Blake Babies. She's also had numerous collaborations with the likes of Evan Dando of The Lemonheads and Paul Westerberg of The Replacements. Juliana talks about all of that, songwriting, touring, and many of her hits like "My Sister"(1993), "Spin the Bottle"(1994), and "Universal Heart-Beat"(1995). Juliana is going on tour this month with Soul Asylum and will be making a stop at The Sinclair Theater in Cambridge on November 4th. In this episode Baxie talk to former Happy Monday's guitarist Kav Sandhu. Next month Kav is releasing the album "Northern Gentleman" as Blitz Vega. This was a collaboration between himself and the late Andy Rourke--former bass player for the Smiths. Although the record was scheduled to be released in 2022, those plans were cut short due to Andy's declining health. Last year, following his death of pancreatic cancer at the age of 59, Andy urged Kav to go ahead and release the album. It's a powerful and poignant story. The record is not only amazing, it also includes guitar performances from Johnny Marr. This is the first time that Andy and Johnny had played together since The Smiths broke up 37 years ago!
