His approach pre-dates, and is similar to, the one depicted in the Brad Pitt movie Moneyball, in which Pitt analyzes baseball players using biometric measurements at rest and while running, as well as the type of equations and statistics to demonstrate their value and project their potential accomplishments. In 2021, she did a virtual book reading during the Super Bowl at the Ronald McDonald House in Tampa Bay, Florida which is an annual event in the Super Bowl host city. Marnie travels all over the country doing book readings at schools, first-responder events, youth sports clubs and businesses. Marnie finds inspiration from her family. Her grandfather, Leonard Tose, who was the owner of the Philadelphia Eagles and also founded the Ronald McDonald House. Also, Marnie’s Mom, Susan Tose Spencer, was the first female GM of an NFL team. She was also their legal counsel and VP. Their dedication to family, charity, and sports taught Marnie the importance of giving back, something she has carried forward into her career in the nonprofit sector. She has received honors for her time and attention spent raising money for the Ronald McDonald House, Alzheimer’s Association, and the Keep on Playing Foundation. To this day she remains very active with the Ronald McDonald House in Charlotte and is on their board. Marnie’s pride is her three kids—Jonathan, Goldie and Leo. Marnie's experience with her first son, Jonathan (22 years old now) having neuroblastoma opsoclonus as a young child taught her much about the importance of an extended family and support. She will give you a bit of a back story: Her family is tightly connected to real estate investing, going back to her great grandfather on her mother’s side and her great uncle on her father’s side, which means she has been unconsciously involved in it ever since she can remember. She was also blessed with a father that always tried to include her in the family business and managing, long before she even appreciated it. At 14 she was already helping choose materials and designs for renovations, even participating in meetings with engineers and architects. Most of her families properties are old, rented, and undermanaged, her father was aware of this but did not believe he had the profile to deal with it, but he believed she did. Right after university he started asking her to develop projects and find solutions for family properties, and so she did. She developed a project for a Rural Charm Hotel alongside him, and started getting more involved in the rental properties management (renovations, contracts, terminations, etc). Rami sold this business in 2019 to pursue his next dream career: motivational speaking, writing and coaching. Rami has dual master’s degrees, one in industrial psychology and the other in exercise physiology and is certified by the American College of Sports Medicine as a health and fitness specialist. He also worked for 11 years for Northside Hospital in Atlanta, GA as an exercise physiologist in the Outpatient Weight Reduction Clinic and the Diabetes Education Department. He has been a motivational speaker, personal trainer, and nutritional coach in various gyms and client’s homes in the Southeast since 1992 and has hands-on experience with over 1000 clients. Rami also does various health-related presentations and health fairs for many corporations and organizations. Rami is also an amateur triathlete, obstacle course racer, and trail runner, having completed over 300 running races, obstacle course races, and multisport events (including Ironman Florida in 1999, multiple 1/2 Ironmans and multiple on-and-off-road marathons) since 1992. His current challenge is running off-road ultra-marathons; he finished his first in 2009, completed a 12-hour, 53-mile off-road run in early 2011 and finished his first 100 mile run in late 2012 (in 26 hours and 52 minutes). After finishing high school, he attended Brigham Young University (BYU) while being a member of the men’s golf team. After graduating in 2018 with a Bachelors Degree in Economics, he actually turned professional in golf that summer. For the next 2 years, he played over in Asia and the Mini-Tour Circuits in the States. In March of 2020, he had to come home after being in Thailand for a month and the Philippines for a couple weeks due to the COVID pandemic shutting down the world. Later that year, he made the decision to pursue and try to build a company with an idea he had in college. That idea would be Stutor. He promised himself he would give himself 12 months to see if he could build and get traction, if he didn’t he would continue to pursue professional golf. After meeting his two Co-Founders, Tyler Crawford and Joel Joseph they are poised for launch to the public in the Fall of 2022’ and could not be more excited to help change the world of Academia. In this episode of the Road to Growth podcast, we are pleased to introduce you to Jeremy Harbour. Jeremy is an investor, entrepreneur and advisor known for M & A advisory and creation of the agglomeration model. He is the founder and owner of The Harbour Club, a company that helps entrepreneurs buy and sell businesses. He is also the owner of Unity Group, a private equity firm Born in UK, Harbour started a business when he was 14 years old and left school to pursue it further. The business was shut after nine years. In the 1990s, he owned a telecommunications company and acquired a competitor without cash or debt. He later moved to the M & A industry. Based in Singapore, Harbour deals in mergers and acquisitions of small businesses, and focuses on building businesses by acquisition and exiting through trade sale or public quote. He uses an agglomeration model to help small businesses. He was the Advisory Director for The Mint National Bank, a DBS Business Class advisor, and Chairman of the Marketing Group, a digital agency. He has been invited to British Houses of Parliament to advise on matters of business and enterprise. He is also the author of the book – ‘Go Do’. Harbour was the Coutts Entrepreneur of the Year runner-up three times. Jeremy’s career began at 8, when he was selling his mother’s flowers in jam jars outside her beauty salon, but really got going at 14, with the aid of his helpful grandmother who drove him to car-boot fairs. “I was the annoying kid at school who was always trying to sell you stuff,” he admits cheerfully. He quickly progressed to a Saturday and then also a Sunday market stall and was not only selling his own lines but supplying other market traders too. Leaving school the moment he finished his GCSEs, Jeremy’s comment to the Telegraph that “the only reason to go to university is to learn how to roll a really good joint”, has come back to haunt him many times, but his point is valid; what would he learn there that he would not learn better running his own business? A view endorsed by his careers teacher who told Jeremy’s mother that Jeremy had spent an hour outlining his career plans in some detail and that Jeremy had better be allowed to get on with it. With hindsight, Jeremy regards his first setback, aged 19, as a good thing, although it was devastating at the time when the failure of his company selling arcade games to pubs wiped out the £60,000 of savings he had built up in his teenage years and he had to go back to the drawing board. Moving back in with his parents, he was forced to digest some hard lessons which, although they caused weight loss and heartbreak at the time, have served him very well subsequently. He also confesses that he would have been insufferable had his star risen much further and that a little humiliation probably saved him in the long term. He had discovered that it is impossible to learn from theory, “The most I knew about business was on the day I started,” he says, “but of course logic doesn’t apply to real business and real human beings. Business books and MBA courses are all about theory, but however much you plan and hedge, there will always be that black swan event which pops up and over which you have no control.” The concept that the more you think you know, the less you actually know and that the only way to learn is by experience, has been key in Jeremy’s subsequent career...
