We had a great Father's Day as Matt challenged all of the men in our church family, talking about the impact that they can have on our families and communities!

This week, we heard a great message from Pastor Jeremy and his dad, Mike, as we celebrated Father's Day!

This week, we wrapped up our series, Called By God, as we talked about our purpose. We see through Matthew 22:37-40 that the most important commandments are to love God and to love others. This week, let's accept the challenge of loving people; whether that looks like serving, showing hospitality, showing kindness, encouraging someone, or even helping carry someone's burdens, let's make this commitment together!

"The World needs to see the Gospel, not just hear it." This past Sunday, we continued our series, Called By God, as we talked about how we are called to fulfill the great commission, but we have to follow the greatest commandments first. If we don't have love, we've accomplished nothing! (1 Cor. 13:1-3)Take time this week to stop doing and be in the presence of our Father!

This week, Pastor Matt continued our series Called By God as we looked at the things that often stop us from believing God can and wants to use us. We are not qualified, but Jesus qualifies us.

For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”Matthew 11:28-30This week, our SVL Teaching Pastor, Jason Thompson, spoke about the heart of Jesus. Jesus suffered as much as He did so that we could be reconciled to Him and that when we experience suffering, we can look toward the cross!He is gentle and humble in heart!

This week, Pastor Matt walks us through Luke 24 and the disciples' road to Emmaus. How do we walk through unmet expectations and doubt and see the Lord working in our story?

This week, our SVL Teaching Pastor, Jason Thompson, walked us through the story of Jonah. In this passage, we see that repentance leads to restoration and how we are called to more as a response to the gift of the Holy Spirit within us.

We continued our series, "The Way, The Truth, The Life," as we focused on Jesus being "the truth"! Through the truth of Jesus, we find freedom and joy! We see how faithful and trustworthy He is through His death and resurrection. Let's fix our eyes on Him this Holy Week as we prepare our hearts for Easter!

"We are not unified because of us but because of Him!" This week, Pastor Jeremy shared more about where God is leading us as a church. We are reminded that we can see Jesus' prayer of unity in John 17 come to pass when we recognize that Jesus is enough and allow the Gospel to unify us!

Pastor Jason talked about how we are called to live with humility and how Jesus perfectly displayed this humility.Jesus displayed this by washing His disciples' feet soon before he was betrayed and ultimately by humbling Himself even to the point of death on the cross. What a love we find in Jesus!

Today, our GVL Teaching Pastor, Matt Humphrey walks us through Matthew 2:1-12."Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the reign of King Herod. About that time some wise men from eastern lands arrived in Jerusalem, asking, “Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw his star as it rose, and we have come to worship him.” King Herod was deeply disturbed when he heard this, as was everyone in Jerusalem. He called a meeting of the leading priests and teachers of religious law and asked, “Where is the Messiah supposed to be born?” “In Bethlehem in Judea,” they said, “for this is what the prophet wrote: ‘And you, O Bethlehem in the land of Judah, are not least among the ruling cities of Judah, for a ruler will come from you who will be the shepherd for my people Israel.’” Then Herod called for a private meeting with the wise men, and he learned from them the time when the star first appeared. Then he told them, “Go to Bethlehem and search carefully for the child. And when you find him, come back and tell me so that I can go and worship him, too!” After this interview the wise men went their way. And the star they had seen in the east guided them to Bethlehem. It went ahead of them and stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were filled with joy! They entered the house and saw the child with his mother, Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasure chests and gave him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. When it was time to leave, they returned to their own country by another route, for God had warned them in a dream not to return to Herod."- Matthew 2:1-12

This Christmas Eve, our GVL Local Lead Pastor, Joe Cuyar, walks us through Luke 2:8-20."That night there were shepherds staying in the fields nearby, guarding their flocks of sheep. Suddenly, an angel of the Lord appeared among them, and the radiance of the Lord’s glory surrounded them. They were terrified, but the angel reassured them. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people. The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David! And you will recognize him by this sign: You will find a baby wrapped snugly in strips of cloth, lying in a manger.” Suddenly, the angel was joined by a vast host of others—the armies of heaven—praising God and saying, “Glory to God in highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom God is pleased.” When the angels had returned to heaven, the shepherds said to each other, “Let’s go to Bethlehem! Let’s see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.” They hurried to the village and found Mary and Joseph. And there was the baby, lying in the manger. After seeing him, the shepherds told everyone what had happened and what the angel had said to them about this child. All who heard the shepherds’ story were astonished, but Mary kept all these things in her heart and thought about them often. The shepherds went back to their flocks, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen. It was just as the angel had told them."- Luke 2:8-20

Our SVL Local Lead Pastor, Dean Coursen, continues our Christmas podcast as we reflect on Matthew 1:18-25."This is how Jesus the Messiah was born. His mother, Mary, was engaged to be married to Joseph. But before the marriage took place, while she was still a virgin, she became pregnant through the power of the Holy Spirit. Joseph, to whom she was engaged, was a righteous man and did not want to disgrace her publicly, so he decided to break the engagement quietly. As he considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream. “Joseph, son of David,” the angel said, “do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife. For the child within her was conceived by the Holy Spirit. And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” All of this occurred to fulfill the Lord’s message through his prophet: “Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel, which means ‘God is with us.’” When Joseph woke up, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded and took Mary as his wife. But he did not have sexual relations with her until her son was born. And Joseph named him Jesus."- Matthew 1:18-25

And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the baby leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit, and she exclaimed with a loud cry, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! And why is this granted to me that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For behold, when the sound of your greeting came to my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord.” And Mary said, “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has looked on the humble estate of his servant. For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed; for he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name. And his mercy is for those who fear him from generation to generation. He has shown strength with his arm; he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts; he has brought down the mighty from their thrones and exalted those of humble estate; he has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent away empty.
