Now that the business end is out of the way we can jump headfirst into today’s dark enigma… and today we are talking Demons Death And The Strange Tale Of One Michael Taylor, but before we get to the bulk of today’s story, I have a little ghost story to whet your appetite… so our first story is Remembering Nelly Butler, America’s First Ghost StoryIt was August 9, 1799, when Abner Blaisdel first heard the “knocking noises” in his house in Machiasport, Maine. And on January 2, 1800, both Abner and his daughter heard a woman’s voice coming from the cellar. “I’m the dead wife,” the voice said, “of Captain George Butler, born Nelly Hooper.” Nelly Butler thus became what many believe is America’s first documented ghost. David Hooper, Nelly’s father, lived about five miles from the Blaisdel home, so Abner sent for him. Mr. Hooper was skeptical, but he was also curious. After walking five miles through a raging snowstorm, Hooper joined Abner in the cellar.Once again Nelly spoke, and Mr. Hooper became a believer. “She gave such clear and irresistible tokens of her being the spirit of my own daughter as gave me no less satisfaction than admiration and delight,” he wrote later. Soon after her father returned home, Nelly appeared visually for the first time to Abner’s son Paul. Terrified, he ran home, reporting that he was walking through the fields and was chased by the apparition that “floated” behind him. That night, Nelly scolded Paul for not speaking to her when he saw her.

Throughout history, one common maritime tradition has been the phenomenon of what are known as phantom islands, or islands that have at times appeared on maps and been considered to be real places, only to disappear from maps later, or have been seen or even visited by seafarers, only to later vanish without a trace. The reasons offered for this are numerous. Sometimes the reason is as simple as a cartographical error, geographical error, navigational error, misidentification of icebergs or fog banks, or a mistaken placement of an actual island. At other times, the phantom island is merely an optical illusion, deceiving the observer into thinking an island exists where there is none. Phantom islands can also be purely mythical constructs; often magical lands said to be populated by all manner of fantastical creatures. Still others can be islands that once existed, but have since been submerged or destroyed by some catastrophe such as a volcanic eruption, earthquakes, or underwater landslides. Yet at other times it is not so easy to define just what is going on, and the island’s mystique grows over time, accumulating wonder and curiosity until it has reached a legendary status. Law enforcement was seen entering 21-year-old Alissa’s $800,000 family home in Arvada, Colorado, on Tuesday.It is 30 miles from where he is believed opened fire with an AR-15-style rifle on Monday afternoon at the King Soopers grocery store.A young woman at the address told reporters to “please leave” the property on Tuesday - just minutes after three detectives left having spent 90 minutes inside.A small child aged about two occasionally came to the window to wave at reporters while detectives were speaking to the family.A wheelchair was left in the garden at the front of the house and two cars, a people carrier and an SUV, were parked in the driveway.The house, which has an array of solar panels on its roof, is believed to be where several members of Alissa’s family live.Several other law enforcement officers, some wearing jackets with “FBI” and some with “CBI” written on the back, were also seen going door to door speaking to neighbors of the family on Tuesday evening.An officer saying his name was Tim Martinez told The Sun: “We are carrying out inquiries related to the shooting and that is all I can say.”One neighbor said: “I know the family, they’re good people.” Other neighbors refused to speak.The suspected Boulder shooter was reportedly known by the FBI and posted about Islamaphobes before the gun attack.Alissa has been charged after rampaging through a grocery store with an AR-15-style rifle, leaving 10 people including police officer Eric Talley, dead.
