Some people may think that because I'm a divorce attorney I do not mind when a marriage fails. Nothing could be further from the truth! CHICAGO, IL — As it moves close to the half-year mark, Chicago has seen a sharp drop in shootings in 2018 compared to the same time the previous two years. Homicides also have seen a decrease, although not as great as overall shootings.As of Sunday, April 15, 611 people have been shot this year, according to police data collected by the Chicago Tribune. That's down from 901 in 2017 and 946 in 2016.For fatal shootings, the city has seen 127 in 2018, so far, the Tribune reports. There were 171 homicides during the same time in 2017 and 172 in 2016.Last year, Chicago saw a drop in shootings and homicides, going from 771 in 2016 to 650 in 2017, according to Chicago police data. Shootings also decreased from 3,550 to 2,785, police said.The U.S. Food and Drug Administration signed a new contract on July 25 to acquire “fresh” human fetal tissue to transplant into “humanized mice” so that these mice will have a functioning “human immune system,” according to information published by the FDA and the General Services Administration.“The objective is to acquire Tissue for Humanized Mice,” said a June 13 FDA “presolicitation notice” for the contract.The contractor, the notice said, would “provide the human fetal tissue needed to continue the ongoing research being led by FDA.“Fresh human tissues are required,” said the notice, “for implantation into severely immune-compromised mice to create chimeric animals that have a human immune system.”

When a mass shooting occurred in Toronto, this past July, the media was - as usual - coy about who the shooter was. They didn’t give us his name or a closeup photo for an inexcusably long time. In particular, sure signs that the shooter is likely a terrorist. And the media are desperate to keep such speculation at bay. But then the question became: was Faisal Hussain mentally ill, or a terrorist, or both? The company says the 44-seat jet wasn’t damaged.Miller County jail records don’t list an attorney for Scott, who lives in Texarkana.The 15 reporting states as of Aug. 2 are Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, Minnesota, Nebraska, South Dakota, Montana, North Dakota, Kentucky, Virginia, Florida and Missouri.According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, at least 16 people have been hospitalized and those who reported illness range in age from 14 to 91 years old. The Connecticut, Tennessee and Virginia cases bought salads while traveling in Illinois, and the Florida case bought a salad while traveling in Kentucky.The outbreak was first reported in May. Authorities in Minneapolis released body camera video Sunday from two police officers in the fatal shooting of a 31-year-old black man. The graphic footage shows Thurman Blevins shot from behind after a frenetic foot chase and what appeared to be a gun in his hand.Officers Justin Schmidt and Ryan Kelly were responding to a 911 call of a man firing a gun into the air on the city's north side June 23. The video shows them pulling their cruiser up and a man -- Blevins -- seated on a curb near a woman with a child in a stroller. As the officers pull up, one says, "He's got a gun!" Blevins jumps up and runs, as the officers yell "Stop, stop! Put your hands up! I will (expletive) shoot you!"In a chase that takes less than a minute, Blevins yells back, "I didn't do nothing bro," ''Please don't shoot" and "Leave me alone." An enhanced version of the video has a red circle drawn around Blevins' hand to highlight what appears to be a gun.After the chase turns down an alley, Blevins is shot, still running.
