Vocation is how we live our mission out in every area of our lives. All of creation exists to glorify God. That is our purpose and ultimate reason for being. One’s biblical vocation consists of all the practical and purposeful outcomes of glorifying God and enjoying him forever on the ground in real-time and in real life. It is our calling, and our commission turned outward, involving concrete actions and contexts. The gathering of believers on Sunday is meant to come in like the tide and then go back out into the world to continue the cultural mandate to have dominion and subdue the earth as well as the great commission to make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. We do this by taking our faith and spiritual family back into our jobs and duties that we perform as craftsmen, professionals, homemakers, and employees. Our spiritual vocation as a church is the domain of cultural engagement, missions, evangelism, and service.

Transformation is what we want to see happen, and only God can do it. The process of progressive sanctification in the life of a believer exists in perpetuity. The significance of this for Redeemer Fellowship Church is that we want to exhibit a culture that expects to find sin to repent of, blind spots to be made aware of, and growing pains that need to be addressed. We long to see Christ increase as we decrease, and we commit to serving one another along that journey of transformation. This burden is to develop a culture of ongoing transformation from the inside out versus from the outside in. We want a culture that values spiritual fruit from the spiritual rebirth that is demonstrated through spiritual growth.

The trinity overflows with loving action amongst its three persons, and human beings were created to participate in that communion. The biblical concept of fellowship appears throughout the scriptures in the language of koinonia. Koinonia is the Greek word for fellowship, joint participation, sharing, companionship, and more. Biblical relationships depend on our attending to our personal and corporate communion with God and our personal and corporate communion with other believers. Biblical communion or fellowship is the backdrop of all Christian charity, friendship, and service. It is the foundational relationship of communion with God on top of which all the one-another commands in the scriptures and all true Christian community is built.

Cultivation is an agricultural metaphor that is everywhere in the Bible. “Like a tree planted by streams of water,” “unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies,” “Apollos watered,” “planting seeds,” and God brings the growth. Grace is opposed to earning, but it isn’t opposed to effort. Cultivation names where and how we believe we should aim our efforts during specific seasons of our church. That focus will determine what we are cultivating as a church. By the power of God’s Spirit, he accomplishes his mission through the church by different means of grace being cultivated and grown in his people.

Jesus frees us from judgment by standing in our place and leads us into true freedom. Christ is the foundation for a life of freedom.

Psalm 92 is a song for the Sabbath, inviting us to find true rest in worshipping God and giving thanks to him for all his works. Resting in God is the goal of gratitude in the Christian life.
