Red Room

Have you ever heard the rumours that some of the biggest names in rock music made deals with the devil to achieve fame and fortune? From Robert Johnson's legendary crossroads story to Led Zeppelin's infamous fascination with the occult, the idea of selling your soul to the devil has long been a part of rock mythology. But is there any truth to these stories, or are they just urban legends? This week we'll explore the history and cultural context behind the idea of making a deal with the devil, and examine some of the most famous examples of alleged rock star pacts.♦️WANT MORE RED ROOM?♦️Subscribe to WEEKLY episodes of Red Room: https://www.patreon.com/redroompodFollow me on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jenny.claffey/Follow Red Room on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/redroom.pod/--- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/redroompod/messageTo access bonus weekly episodes of Red Room join Patreon HERE Hosted on Acast. Betty & Barney Hill were a normal American couple, going about their everyday life, until one day everything changed.  While travelling home from a trip, the couple encountered what they described as a bright light hovering over their car.Confused, they pulled over and this is where their memory gets blurry. When they 'came-to' they were back in their car, almost 60km away from where everything happened. They struggled with their memories over this event for years, until they were introduced to hypnosis. What they recalled in those hypnotherapy sessions terrified them, and made their story one of the first and the most famous account of alien abduction.Written, produced , edited & presented by Jenny Claffey, 2023.♦️SUBSCRIBE TO RED ROOM♦️Want more Red Room? Reincarnation to many in the Western world is something of fairytales, Christianity and Abrahamic religion has coloured our view of the concept so much we typically completely dismiss it. But, did you know, within many Asian and Eastern religions, reincarnation is central  to their beliefs? Jainism, Hinduism, Buddhism and Sikhism are just some of the religions who believe in a karmic cycle, resulting in each life that you life (there can be infinite numbers) to reflect the work you did in the last. The idea of reincarnation has always fascinated me... after all, wouldn't life be viewed so differently if we knew we could do it all again? Wouldn't we treat those we love and don't love, with more kindness and empathy if we knew karla could come back to haunt us?  This week we're talking about all things reincarnation, including two crazy stories that might even convince the biggest cynic, that reincarnation is real!Written, produced , edited & presented by Jenny Claffey, 2023.***Share this episode on IG and tag me to enter a weekly giveaway of Red Room Merch!***♦️SUBSCRIBE TO RED ROOM♦️  Subscribe to WEEKLY episodes of Red Room: https://www.patreon.com/redroompod Follow me on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jenny.claffey/ Follow Red Room on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/redroom.pod/--- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/redroompod/messageTo access bonus weekly episodes of Red Room join Patreon HERE Hosted on Acast. Did you know The Wizard of Oz is the most watched movie of all time?  It launched Judy Garland's career , won multiple awards and has entertained families for almost 100 years; but it is not well known that the film is considered cursed by many.    From pre-production disasters, toxic makeup, drug addictions and even assault, this film's production was littered with issues that affected many of the cast for their entire lives.   This is the story of the curse and surrounding conspiracy theories of The Wizard of Oz.Written, produced, edited & presented by Jenny Claffey, 2023.♦️SUBSCRIBE TO RED ROOM♦️Want more Red Room? Elliot Rodger was born in 1991, to a upper-middle class family and although he was shy, he was a pretty normal kid.  However as this shyness and introversion began to hinder his social life, he got older he began to grow bitter and resentful towards his peers. He found it hard to fit in, he struggled to talk to the opposite sex and often felt confused as to why this happened him.  These, of course, are normal parts of growing up for many teenagers and young adults, but instead of persevering, Elliot became resentful, violent and dangerous. As Elliot became further isolated from society, his thoughts and fantasies became more extreme, helped along by a group of men he found online, who identified as "involuntarily celibate".This is the story of how Elliot Rodger's narcissism and anger became so extreme, he went on a violent rampage in 2014 and took the life of 6 innocent people and may have influenced a string of violent incels for years to come.Written, researched, produced & presented by Jenny Claffey, 2023.♦️SUBSCRIBE TO RED ROOM♦️Want more Red Room? Hi everyone! This week we are looking at the case of the New Jersey Watcher. You may have seen this was recently made into a Netflix series by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan and the minute I watched it I needed to know what parts were fact, and what were fiction. As I always say, sometimes real life is scarier than fiction and this case is definitely one of them.00:00 INTRO00:59 Part 1, The Dream07:43 Part 2, The Reality14:28 Part 3, The Young Blood20:05 Part 4, The Suspects 29:47 Part 5, To Move or Not To Move41:44 Part 6, Theories & Developments--- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/redroompod/messageTo access bonus weekly episodes of Red Room join Patreon HERE Hosted on Acast. This week on the pod I am speaking to Briell Decker.Briell was born and raised within the FLDS Church, a fundamentalist sect of the Latter Day Saints that practice Polygamy. Her life was never normal; she had no TV, was forced out of school before High School and she could not date or mingle with boys - any semblance of a normal teenage childhood was banned. Her life changed forever when she had just turned 18 and Warren Jeffs requested her to be married to him, as one of his then 64 wives. Briell's father brought her to the leader, and she was married instantly. Briell spent the next 8 years under the control of the FLDS Church, where she was drugged to keep quiet and all measures were taken to keep her within the organisation. This is her story, on how she escaped and how she took the power back.Watch her TedTalk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWmsoCIuDn4&ab_channel=TEDxTalks--- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/redroompod/messageTo access bonus weekly episodes of Red Room join Patreon HERE Hosted on Acast. There's an awful lot of talk about censorship in the media lately, but did you know a lot of the most viral information was only revealed because of an attempt to cover it up?The Streisand Effect is a phenomenon that occurs when an attempt to hide, remove, or censor information has the unintended consequence of increasing awareness of that information, often via the Internet. In this episode we cover a plethora of examples of the Streisand Effect, from where it gets it's name, political coverups gone wrong, all the way to literary censorship creating cult classics like Lolita. Finally we talk about Roko's Basilisk, described as "The Most Terrifying Thought Experiment of All Time", that went viral through the effect, possibly puts everyone who is aware of its existence in danger.Sign up for weekly episodes: www.patreon.com/redroompod--- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/redroompod/messageTo access bonus weekly episodes of Red Room join Patreon HERE Hosted on Acast. This week we take a deep dive into the Church of Scientology and their relationship to (and obsession with) celebrities. From alleged cover-ups, arranged marriages to using the charisma of the celebrity to spread their beliefs far and wide, there is no Scientology without the A-list celeb, and seemingly nothing they won’t do to keep their A-listers loyal followers. In this episode we cover the beginnings of this profitable relationship and how it was always L Ron Hubbard’s wish to be a celebrity Church. We also talk about how John Travolta got involved with Scientology, how they helped his career and reputation before casting him aside and how now, they seem to be doing little to cover his tracks. Of course we take a look at Tom Cruise, the Church’s alleged #2, and how the organisation have curated relationships, staff and an entire life for their most famous and devoted member.
