Ep 1Ep. 50 - Revoice Conference, Darwin's House of Cards, Hamartano & Hamartia

Welcome to the Plodcast! Listen in to hear Pastor Wilson re-address the revoice conference, arguing that the whole thing is completely backwards. After that he plods on to review Tom Bethel’s “Darwin’s House of Cards”. Finally, Wilson takes a look at Hamartano & Hamartia in 1 Corinthians. Happy Plodding! Show Notes: The Revoice Conference: They want it to be possible for someone to be a gay celibate The main thing that is wrong with this is that it is privileging gender confusion sexuality issues in a way that we never would privilege any other sin This is like having your identity be in gambling but you never actually bet anything This whole thing is not a sustainable project What are the transgenders committing to not do? Darwin’s House of Cards: Written by Tom Bethel He is bringing us up to speed on the debate of darwinism He gives great insight to the problems created by convergent evolution The conclusion of the book was great, he points out that the plausibility structure supporting darwinism is not there anymore Hamartano & Hamartia: Looking at these sins in 1 Cor. Hamartano is used a number of times but Hamartia is not mentioned until chapter 15 1 Cor. 6:18,28, / 7:36 / 8:12 / 15:3, 17, 34, 56

Ep 1Ep. 49 - American & French Revolutions, Skin in the Game, Hamartia

Howdy! Listen in to hear Pastor Wilson talk about the American and French Revolutions, and the history behind them. He plods on to review Nassim Taleb’s book, “Skin in the Game” and finishes things off with a look at Hamartia in Romans. Happy Plods! Show Notes: American & French Revolutions: We can’t have a biblical explanation of the War for Independence without properly seeing the context The revolutionary era of the 18th century was kicked off by the French Rev. not the American War for Independence Americans had every constitutional right to revolt Skin in the Game: Written by Nassim Nicholas Taleb He argues that information doesn’t make you wise, having skin in the game makes you wise A lot of the problems in the world are caused by people who do not have to face any consequences for being wrong Taleb argues that risk is a really good thing You want to live in such a way that when you make a wise choice you reap the benefit and vice versa Hamaria: Hamartia occurs 48 times in Romans Found in Romans 3:9, 3:20, 4:7. 4:8, 5:12, 5:13, 5:20, 5:21, 6:1, 6:2, 6:6, 6:7, 6:10. 6:11, 6:12, 6:13, 6:14, 6;16, 6:17; 6:18, 6:20. 6:22, 6:23, 7:5, 7:7, 7:8, 7:9, 7:11, 7:13, 7:14, 7:17, 7:20, 7:23, 7;25, 8:2, 8:3, 8;10, 11;27, 14:23

Ep 1Ep. 48 - Identity Politics, Suicide of the West, Hamartano & Hamartia

Howdy! Listen in to hear Pastor Wilson talk about how identity politics has crept its way into the church. He plods on to review Jonah Goldberg’s book, “Suicide of the West” and finishes things off with another look at Hamartano and Hamartia in Romans. Show Notes: Identity politics & the church Identity politics would not be making such in-roads into the church unless we were having an identity crisis Our identities have to be in Christ As identity politics come into the church, race & gender relations get worse If we try to have any kind of harmony that doesn’t confront the fact of our sinful natures it is a grave mistake Suicide of the West Even though I’m going to be critical, the book is amazing... buy three copies Written by Jonah Goldberg Goldberg’s book “Liberal Fascism” is one of the best books I’ve ever read The critique is that the first line of the book says that there is no God in this book Hamartano & Hamartia: These words show up so much in Romans that we need to split it up into two episodes Hamartano is mentioned in Romans 2:12, 3:23, 5:12, 5;14, 5:16, 6:15 Understanding these things, shall we sin because we are under grace and not under the law God forbid it, Paul says.

Ep 1Ep. 47 - Revoice Conference, Subtracting Christianity, Hamartano & Hamartia

Howdy! Listen in to hear Pastor Wilson talk about the upcoming Revoice Conference, claiming the whole thing to be “counter productive in the extreme”. He plods on to review Joseph Sobran’s book, “Subtracting Christianity” and finishes things off with another look at Hamartano and Hamartia in Acts. Show Notes: Revoice Conference: A doctrine has developed in the Evangelical & Reformed wing of the Church saying that someone can have a gay identity and be a Christian provided that they live a celibate lifestyle Their identity can be gay but their behavior in the bedroom cannot be gay The problem is that people don’t see the connection between effeminacy in manner and what winds up happening sexually, don’t start something you cannot finish This revoice conference saying that they want to minister to homosexuals by letting them keep everything they can possibly keep is extremely counter productive Subtracting Christianity: Written by Joseph Sobran This book is a collection of Sobran’s columns He is a very engaging writer, making you think deep Some of his criticisms of Israel are silly He does have a cockeyed view from what is going on in the east However, he has a sane, healthy, and happy voice for traditional Christian values Hamartano & Hamartia Consider the book of Acts Hamartano is used once in Acts, where it is rendered as offend (Acts 25:8) Hamartia is used eight times in Acts, (Acts 2:38, 3:19, 5:31, 7:6, 10:43, 13:38, 22:16, 26:18 Apostolic preaching frequently included the topic of sin. The relative absence of sin in much of modern preaching is therefore a great mystery. Our theologians are still working on it

Finishing things off with a look at the Greek word “hamartano”. Happy Plodding! Show Notes: Edenic Perfection: What do we mean when we think about the garden of Eden being a perfect place What did a perfect garden look like and not look like? Entropy existed prior to the fall But the entropy and death of man was introduced by sin All that is in God: Written by James Dolezal This is a defense of the doctrine of divine simplicity God is not a composite being, God is a simple being Anything that is in God, is God We don’t believe that God is Zeus standing on a balcony looking down on us Hamartano: Found in Luke, rendered as sin and trespass Luke 15:18, the prodigal son confesses to his father that he has sinned Luke 15:21, Jesus says that if a brother trespasses against us we should forgive him upon repentance, even if he does it 7 times in one day Hamartia is found 7 times in Luke (Luke 1:77, 3:3, 5:20/21/23/24, 7:47/48/49, 11:4, 24:27)

Then he goes on to plug the book, Suicide of the West, based off of a review written by David Bahnsen & Brian Mattson. Finishing things off with a look at the Greek word “hamartia”. Happy Plodding! Show Notes: Guilt & Totalitolerance: Many of the liberties that are being offered to Americans are bribes They are bribes from an establishment that wants a docile and easily manipulated public The fact that Americans have indulged themselves in so many ways, means that they are carrying a fundamental burden of guilt A guilty people will be the most fiercely moralistic people There is a tight connection between guilt and totalitolerance Preachers need to realize this and start preaching free grace Suicide of the West: This is a review of a book review The review was about Jonah Goldberg’s “The Suicide of the West” The review was by David Bahnsen & Brian Mattson They both give this book a rave review, dinging Goldberg for his atheism Gratitude requires an object, gratitude presupposes relationship If you don’t have metaphysical money in the bank the checks you wright are all going to bounce Hamartia: Continued from episode 43, means sin Mentioned 6 times in the book of Mark Mark 1:4,1:5,2:5,7:5,9:5,10:5

Finishing things off with a look at the Greek words “hamartano & hamartia”. Happy Plodding! Show Notes: Dirty Omniscience: Google & Facebook are virtually tracking everything we do This is going to go badly wrong Our browser history is stored somewhere We already know God knows, but now somebody else knows, and they are not loving and caring like the Lord People who want to rival God are in big trouble Christians should throw shade on this dirty omniscience Approved By God: Written by Wright & Townsend Helpful but patchy Deals with the subject of churches and incorporation We shouldn’t want the church saying one thing while the state is saying something else A corporation exists at the pleasure of the state Wright & Townsend are so concerned with separation from the state that they overstate their case Hamartano & Hamartia: This word is used a lot in the NT, we will have to break it up Starting with Matthew, Hamartano is rendered twice as sin and once as trespass (Matthew 18:21/27:4/18:15/1:21/3:6/9:2/9:5-6/12:31/26:28) The new covenant is all about dealing with our sin Those who reject the idea of sin (as all relativists do) are showing their antipathy for the good news that God has given to us.

Then he goes on to plug the book, Reformation Worship by Gibson and Earngy. Finishing things off with a look at the Greek word “Amathes’. Show Notes: Eric Schneiderman & Not Being a Hypocrite: When women make “me-too” arguments, they are assuming moral absolutes exist The whole “me-too” movement is radically relativistic when it comes to ethics You can’t adopt a “do what you feel” worldview and argue that men are wrong for molesting or raping If there is no God there’s no such thing as a hypocrite In the Christian cosmos hypocrisy is a sin In the “me-too” world there is no such thing as sin Reformation Worship: Written by Gibson & Earngy Fabulous resource on reformational liturgics They have assembled some of the classic reformed orders of worship Amathes: The word amathes means unleared Mentioned once in the NT (2 Peter 3:16) Those who are unlearned and yet gather to themselves the prerogatives of learning -- which would include the authority to interpret the letters of Paul -- are demonstrating that they are unlearned for a reason They are unstable souls, and their ignorance is sinful

Happy Plodding! Show Notes: Isreal & Middle East Conflict: there has been endless Middle East conflict, and it is easy to push it to the side however there are things that Christians need to pay attention to I am not an adherent of manifest destiny you can’t unscramble the egg we ought to recognize that Isreal has the right to occupy the space she currently has The Conservative Mind: written by Russel Kirk one of the values of conservative temperament is that it is not idealogical the conservative is suspicious of systems the conservative prefers the devil he knows to the devil he doesn’t know Alusiteles: The NT describes sins of omission in different ways Heb. 13:17 - the saints are told to avoid making their rulers assigned task a grief they are to be a joy to serve, not a grief when this is not done, the result is unprofitable (alusiteles) when worshipers find that their whole church experience is “unprofitable” for them, this is one of the possible reasons they should check

Show Notes: Private Property & Environment: when people tell you to save this or save that, there is a presupposition of ownership we have to figure out who owns what Christians should want to be good stewards of the planet, however, we need to do it through God’s appointed mechanisms you don’t want to put anyone in charge of the environment, or an endangered species when that person doesn’t face any negative consequences for making poor decisions Christians need to radically reintroducing private property The Plan of Salvation: written by B.B. Warfield helpful breakdown of different approaches to salvation if you are interested in preserving historic reformed evangelicalism, then this book is great Allotriepiskopos: refers to someone who is a busy body in the affairs of others these people are engaged in looking over the shoulders of others so that they can butt in mentioned in 1 Peter 4:15 mind thine own business

Happy Plodding! Show Notes: Abolitionism & The Art of the Deal: How can we draw a lesson from the left when it comes from political engagement on the pro-life issue one of the things the left does very well is that they don’t apologize for the activists on the extreme edges of their movement if someone fighting for the same cause is doing something that is ill advised, it is really important for incrementalists to not apologize for the abolitionists don’t spend your time fighting the abolitionists, spend your time fighting the pro abortionists The Reformed Doctrine of Predestination: written by Loraine Boettner has a lot of wonderful textual citations in the Bible that show how God governs everything if anyone is interested in a good introduction to the reformed doctrine of predestination it is a wonderful book Alisgema: this is the word for pollution, and is used once (Acts 15:20) the Gentiles needed to abstain from certain basic things, among them the pollutions of idols the end result of all forms of idolatry is always pollution, usually sexual we need to be wary of nature worship, (going green)

Trump is amazing for conservatives but at the same time there is a gody sideshow we have a republican actually governing as a republican the problem is in 2020 I’m not proposing to answer this question yet but I want to start responsible Christians talking about it before it comes C.S. Lewis’s Dangerous Idea: written by Victor Reppert he is annualizing and interacting with C.S. Lewis’ argument from reason if we are nothing but matter in motion, then we have no basis for saying anything is true or not everyone even materialists can’t believe their thoughts this whole book is the work of a Christian philosopher, who is very careful and diligent Aladzon means boaster listed in Romans 1:30 and 2 Tim. 3:2 vainglory always seeks to puff itself up let him who wants to boast, boast in the Lord boasting of some sort is inescapable giving glory to God is the heart of every sane response

Cor. 7:5, Matt. 23:25) one of the reasons that nonbelievers, even nonbelievers in positions of influence and importance, cannot control themselves is that self-control is a fruit of the spirit they can control one thing, but not the other the Spirit gives us the ability to be self-controlled across the board
