Ep. 98 - Intelligent Fanatics of India and Finding Inefficiencies with Rohith Potti, Co-Author of “Intelligent Fanatics of India”
For this episode of the Planet MicroCap Podcast, I spoke with Rohith Potti, Co-Author of the upcoming, “Intelligent Fanatics of India.” This was very exciting for me – not only as a fan of “Intelligent Fanatics” series, but its covering a part of the world that I’ve had little exposure too. While I’ve interviewed some well-known Indian investors on here, Professor Bakshi and Gautum Baid, I’m looking forward to reading about some of the best entrepreneurs that have built successful businesses in India. Now, to guide us through this journey is my guest today, Rohith Potti. I had the opportunity to interview Rohith at the MicroCapClub Leadership Summit in Chicago a couple weeks ago, where we discussed Rohith’s background, his inspirations and he gave some snippets to what you can expect in the latest edition of Intelligent Fanatics. Thank you Ian Cassel and Sean Iddings for helping set this up, and for hosting another great event – I highly recommend everyone try and attend in 2020.Planet MicroCap Podcast is on YouTube! Ep. 97 - MicroCap Value Destruction: An Antidote with Adam J. Epstein, Founder of Third Creek Advisors, LLC
For this episode of the Planet MicroCap Podcast, I caught up with Adam Epstein, Founder of Third Creek Advisors, LLC. I previously had Adam on the podcast for Episode 22, where we discussed the importance of paying attention to corporate governance. Since then, a new platform has been launched, called, “Small Cap Institute”, whose ecosystem, as it states on their website, “is designed to elevate objective, differentiated education and transformative peer exchange, and empower small cap leaders to avoid value-destructive advice.” Founded by David Scher, who, as it states on their website, “occupies a unique vantage point from which to understand at a granular level which issues are most troubling to small-cap CEOs and Boards.” Most of you know David from his work at LD Micro with Chris Lahiji, and Adam Epstein joined Small Cap Institute’s advisory board to support and help David execute the mission and problem SCI is trying to solve – a potential antidote to MicroCap value destruction.Planet MicroCap Podcast is on YouTube! Ep. 96 - Classic Growth Theory of Investing and How to Prepare for a Downturn in the Market with Gerry Frigon, Founder and CIO of Taylor Frigon Capital Management
For this episode of the Planet MicroCap Podcast, I spoke with Gerry Frigon, Founder and CIO of Taylor Frigon Capital Management. At the beginning of September, when we recorded this interview, mainstream media outlets have been discussing the affect trade wars, interest rates, and all sorts of potential catalysts for downturns in the market. I thought it would be important to discuss investing strategies in the event of downturns in the market. I was introduced to Gerry Frigon very recently, and thought he would provide interesting takes on current market conditions, how he and his firm would tackle downturns in the market, and to learn more about Taylor Frigon Capital Management’s investment philosophy. Ep. 94 - How Working for San Antonio Spurs Helped Shape Investing Thesis with Adam Wilk, Greystone Capital Management
For this episode of the Planet MicroCap Podcast, I spoke with Adam Wilk, Portfolio Manager at Greystone Capital Management and Editor of Pound the Rock Investing investor blog. I reached out to Adam after reading his blog post, “Basketball and Investing: A Match Made in Heaven”, where he documents his experience working for the San Antonio Spurs. In the post, and you will soon hear, his time working with the Spurs and general manager, R.C. Buford, yielded lessons that he was able to incorporate into his passion for investing.Adam’s blog, “Pound the Rock Investing”, is even inspired by the Stonecutter’s Creedo, a quote made famous by Jacob Riis, and is at the core of the Spurs’ culture. I’m a huge sports fan, and love when investing podcasts bring on people who have worked in the sports world. There are so many parallels, and if you’re a fan like me, you’ll enjoy my upcoming chat with Adam.Planet MicroCap Podcast is on YouTube! For this episode of the Planet MicroCap Podcast, I spoke with Gautam Baid, Author of “The Joys of Compounding.” I’m always looking for new books to read that can offer a new perspective or outlook on the world or investing. What is cool about Gautam’s book, “The Joys of Compounding” is that is achieves both of those things. As you will hear, we discuss at length his investing style and thesis, but more importantly, how Gautam’s passion for learning has served him well in all of life’s pursuits.Planet MicroCap Podcast is on YouTube! Ep. 92 - Moats, Management and Price: Breaking Down the Venn Diagram with Todd Wenning, Senior Analyst at Ensemble Capital
For this episode of Planet MicroCap Podcast, I spoke with Todd Wenning, Senior Analyst at Ensemble Capital. Ep. 91 - So you want to be an Activist Investor? with Jeff Gramm, Bandera Partners and Author of “Dear Chairman”
For this episode of the Planet MicroCap Podcast, I caught up with Jeff Gramm, Author of “Dear Chairman”. In our first interview on the podcast, Episode 40, we dissect his book, “Dear Chairman” - chapter by chapter. During that interview, we talk about the history and rise of shareholder activism, how it has evolved in the last 100 years, the difference between shareholder activism in large caps and microcaps, and much more. I invited Jeff back because I’ve been wanting to do an episode similar to ones I’ve done with Ian Cassel and Mike Schellinger about the life of a full-time MicroCap investor, but for this episode – the life of an activist investor and the best practices for those of you that may be interested in wanting to be an activist. The goal for this episode is to try and answer the question: so you want to be an activist investor?Planet MicroCap Podcast will be coming to YouTube! Ep. 90 - MicroCap Graduation Series: eXp World Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ: EXPI)
For this episode of the Planet MicroCap Podcast, we are launching a new series here called, the “MicroCap Graduation Series”. I’ve done about 90 interviews here on the podcast, and I’ve interviewed some of the best investors, where they discuss the investing strategies that helped them be successful investors. The next evolution I always envisioned for Planet MicroCap was to interview CEO’s who have successfully navigated the MicroCap waters to either be acquired by or graduate to a Small-, Mid- or Large-Cap company. The goal is to portray a full picture of the Micro-, Nano-cap space – from learning strategies to help you become a successful investor and to show that there are actual real, live public companies that have found success as a public Micro- or Nano-cap company. There also may be some of you listening to this that are CEOs or C-suite management of a Micro/Nano-cap public company or emerging growth private company; my guest today and future guests of this series have a lot of great information to share that led to their success.Without further or due, my first guest for this series is Glenn Sanford, Founder and CEO of eXp World Holdings, Inc. They are a publicly traded company on NASDAQ, with the symbol, EXPI. As a quick background, eXp World Holdings, Inc. operates eXp Realty, a cloud-based, international real estate brokerage firm. eXp is one of the fastest growing real estate brands in North America that currently has 18,000+ agents/brokers on their platform. They are tech company that from 2014-2018, EXPI’s revenue experienced a 147% CAGR. All numbers I’m relaying here are from EXPI’s May 2019 investor presentation. The company went public in late 2013 as a small MicroCap, where it traded as low at $0.15 during 2014, and as of today, June 25, 2019 is trading at $10.77 per share, with a market cap of around $664 million. I derived share and market cap information from Yahoo Finance. For full disclosure, SNN Incorporated or myself are not shareholders of EXPI. This interview is for information purposes only and recommend you do your own due diligence prior to making any investment decision.Click here to rate and review the Planet MicroCap PodcastThe Planet MicroCap Podcast is brought to you by SNN Incorporated, publishers of StockNewsNow.com, The Official MicroCap News Source, and the MicroCap Review Magazine, the leading magazine in the MicroCap market - check out the latest issue here: MicroCap Review Spring 2019You can follow the Planet MicroCap Podcast on Twitter @BobbyKKraft, and you can also listen to this interview on StockNewsNow.comFor more information about eXp World Holdings, Inc., please visit: www.expworldholdings.com This is a public episode. Ep. 89 - Your Investing Strategy Has to Fit You with Vitaliy Katsenelson, CEO/CIO of Investment Management Associates, Inc. (IMA)
For this episode of Planet MicroCap Podcast, I spoke with Vitaliy Katsenelson, CEO and CIO of IMA. I came to know Vitaliy by finding his profile on Twitter. From there, I started reading his blog, listening to his podcast and read a few of the available chapters of his book, and knew I had to reach out to have him on.In this interview we focus quite a bit on how the more you know yourself, then the more informed you’ll be about what type of investing strategy and investor you will be.As Vitaliy states in the interview, and I’m paraphrasing here, “investing is like clothes shopping. Some will look great, but when you try them on, that clothing item may not fit right. You try on different clothing that looks good, and eventually you find what works for you.” The goal for this episode is to learn how Vitaliy looked inward to understand what investing strategy would work best for him. Maybe this inspires you to look inward in order to help yourself become the best investor you can be.Planet MicroCap Podcast will be coming to YouTube! Ep. 81 - How to Approach Investing in Energy Markets with Keith Schaefer, Publisher of Oil and Gas Investments Bulletin
For this episode of Planet MicroCap Podcast, I spoke with Keith Schaefer, Publisher of Oil and Gas Investments Bulletin. I’ve met Keith a few times on the conference circuit, having been booth buddies along the way. I also have yet to do an episode completely dedicated to Energy markets and how to approach looking at a potential investment in this space. I’ll admit, I’m a bit of a novice in this space, so I apologize in advance if some of my questions may sound a little off, but after interviewing Keith, I felt a lot more informed. As you will hear, Keith has been running Oil and Gas Investments Bulletin for some time now, and I’m excited to share his insights on how he has gone about investing in this space. The goal for this episode is to learn more about how Keith Schaefer approaches investing in energy markets.Mark your calendar's for this year's Planet MicroCap Showcase. Ep. 79 - Growth Runway vs. Moats with Thomas Bachrach, PFH Capital
For this episode of Planet MicroCap Podcast, I spoke with Thomas Bachrach, Founder and Principal at PFH Capital. I met Thomas at the MicroCap Leadership Summit back in September. We were at the bar debating whether investing in an airport in a third world country, and figuring out who would fly over to do the due diligence. All joking aside, I really enjoyed chatting with him and learning his ideas on investing and MicroCaps.Thomas recently launched PFH Capital, a globally-focused investment advisor focused on, “micro and small-cap businesses with significant insider ownership, ample growth runway and healthy finances”, as it states on the PFH Capital website. The goal for this interview was to learn more about his investment philosophy and strategy.Mark your calendar's for next year's Planet MicroCap Showcase. Ep. 78 - What is ‘Intrinsic Investing’ and Emerging Moat Businesses with Sean Stannard-Stockton, President & CIO of Ensemble Capital
For this episode of Planet MicroCap Podcast, I spoke with Sean Stannard-Stockton, President and Chief Investment Officer of Ensemble Capital. I’m always looking for new and interesting topics to cover on here, and I was doing research on potential guests for the podcast. I came across Sean’s website, IntrinsicInvesting.com, and had to learn more. It sounds like a combination of ‘intrinsic value’ and ‘value investing’, and as you will hear, Sean goes in depth on how he’s derived an investing strategy using this concept. While Sean’s firm is not MicroCap-focused, we try to apply this idea of ‘intrinsic investing’ for someone who has a MicroCap-focused investing strategy. The goal for this episode is to learn more about what ‘intrinsic investing’ is, as well as discuss a few articles and topics Sean and his team have written about on IntrinsicInvesting.com.Click here to rate and review the Planet MicroCap PodcastThe Planet MicroCap Podcast is brought to you by SNN Incorporated, publishers of StockNewsNow.com, The Official MicroCap News Source, and the MicroCap Review Magazine, the leading magazine in the MicroCap market - check out the latest issue here: MicroCap Review Fall 2018You can follow the Planet MicroCap Podcast on Twitter @BobbyKKraft, and you can also listen to this interview on StockNewsNow.comFor more information about Sean Stannard-Stockton, Ensemble Capital and Intrinsic Investing, please visit:Ensemble Capital: www.ensemblecapital.comIntrinsic Investing: www.intrinsicinvesting.comYou can follow Sean, Ensemble Capital and Intrinsic Investing on Twitter @IntrinsicInv This is a public episode. Ep. 77 - Illiquidity and Finding Value on the OTC Markets with Doug Mohn, NoCalledStrikes.com
For this episode of Planet MicroCap Podcast, I spoke with Doug Mohn, Editor of NoCalledStrikes.com. I met Doug recently at the MicroCap Leadership Summit in Chicago, and I enjoyed getting to know him, as well as hearing his experiences regarding investing in MicroCap stocks. What is interesting about our conversation you’re about to hear is that, unlike most investors, Doug doesn’t mind illiquidity – in fact, finding revenue generating companies listed on the Pink Sheets is part of his criteria. Like most of the interviews you’ve heard on here, most of guests have said in one degree or another that there’s a natural edge when investing in MicroCap stocks because most institutions can’t and won’t get involved until these businesses mature. I would argue that Doug takes this notion a step further by looking at illiquid stocks that generate revenues on the Pink Sheets – most retail investors don’t start there. The goal for this interview is to learn more about Doug’s investing strategy and his journey looking for winners on the Pink Sheets.Click here to rate and review the Planet MicroCap PodcastThe Planet MicroCap Podcast is brought to you by SNN Incorporated, publishers of StockNewsNow.com, The Official MicroCap News Source, and the MicroCap Review Magazine, the leading magazine in the MicroCap market - check out the latest issue here: MicroCap Review Fall 2018You can follow the Planet MicroCap Podcast on Twitter @BobbyKKraft, and you can also listen to this interview on StockNewsNow.comFor more information about Doug Mohn and his blog, please visit: www.nocalledstrikes.com This is a public episode. Ep. 76 - Trends in MicroCaps for 2018 and What to Expect at LD Micro “Main Event” with Chris Lahiji, LD Micro
For this episode of Planet MicroCap Podcast, I caught up with Chris Lahiji, President of LD Micro. Every year, the MicroCap investing universe gathers together during the first week of December in Los Angeles to check in with portfolio companies, look for new opportunities, as well as commemorate, celebrate and network. This year is Chris’ 11th annual LD Micro “Main Event” and I would consider the event an institution in our space. We always look forward to each and every year, and will be there in person, so be sure to say hi!Because we are close to the end of 2018, I also wanted to get Chris’ thoughts on 2018: trends he recognized, highlights, lowlights and he even proposes some structural changes he thinks would incentivize more companies to go public, a common topic discussed for those covering the space.Click here to rate and review the Planet MicroCap PodcastThe Planet MicroCap Podcast is brought to you by SNN Incorporated, publishers of StockNewsNow.com, The Official MicroCap News Source, and the MicroCap Review Magazine, the leading magazine in the MicroCap market - check out the latest issue here: MicroCap Review Fall 2018You can follow the Planet MicroCap Podcast on Twitter @BobbyKKraft, and you can also listen to this interview on StockNewsNow.comFor more information about LD Micro and Chris Lahiji, please visit: www.LDMicro.comYou can follow LD Micro on Twitter @theLDMicro This is a public episode. Ep. 75 - How to Approach Investing in Global Markets with Adrian Day, Chairman and CEO of Adrian Day Asset Management
For this episode of the Planet MicroCap Podcast, I spoke with Adrian Day, Chairman and CEO of Adrian Day Asset Management. We first met Mr. Day in 2017 at the Sprott Natural Resource Symposium, and we have done two video interviews with him discussing his viewpoints on geopolitics and natural resource investing. I wanted to do an interview with Mr. Day on the podcast to get a deeper understanding of his investing philosophy and process. On his website, he outlines how he and his firm don’t just focus on resources – they also focus on value and global opportunities. The latter of which I wanted to understand a bit further because we have not covered this topic in depth. Ep. 74 - How to Utilize Differential Insights in Your Investing Strategy with Paul Lountzis, Lountzis Asset Management, LLC
For this episode of the Planet MicroCap Podcast, I spoke with Paul Lountzis, President of Lountzis Asset Management, LLC. I first saw Mr. Lountzis speak at the first annual MicroCapClub Leadership Summit in 2016, where he did a presentation discussing his investing strategy and the idea of differential insights. While Paul’s focus is not really MicroCaps, following his presentation, I thought he could provide insight, tools and strategies that can help investors no matter what asset or assets they focus on. The goal for this episode is to learn more about how Mr. Lountzis utilizes differential insights to assist in his investing philosophy, and the many lessons from his vast investing experiences.Click here to rate and review the Planet MicroCap PodcastThe Planet MicroCap Podcast is brought to you by SNN Incorporated, publishers of StockNewsNow.com, The Official MicroCap News Source, and the MicroCap Review Magazine, the leading magazine in the MicroCap market - check out the latest issue here: MicroCap Review Fall 2018You can follow the Planet MicroCap Podcast on Twitter @BobbyKKraft, and you can also listen to this interview on StockNewsNow.comFor more information about Paul Lountzis and Lountzis Asset Management, please visit: www.lountzis.com This is a public episode. Ep. 73 - What My Professor Taught Me About Finance and Investing with Darrol Stanley, Professor of Finance at Pepperdine Graziadio School of Business
For this episode of the Planet MicroCap Podcast, I spoke with Darrol Stanley, Professor of Finance at Pepperdine Graziadio School of Business. As some of you may know, I’m in the process of getting my MBA at Pepperdine, and coming into school, I wanted to do an interview with one of my professors whose class I not only enjoyed, but was also relevant to our mission with the podcast. That has all led me to my guest, Professor Darrol Stanley, my professor for finance to share his wealth of knowledge and experience with you all today. I loved Professor Stanley’s class because it was as old school as it gets, and he remained focused on teaching us the traditional value investing principles passed down from the greats: from Benjamin Graham to Warren Buffet, and we even spent time at the beginning of one class discussing Professor Sanjay Bakshi’s contributions to the world of investing. The goal for this episode to take you to class with me with one of my favorite Professors to discuss a topic we all know and love: finance and investing.Click here to rate and review the Planet MicroCap PodcastThe Planet MicroCap Podcast is brought to you by SNN Incorporated, publishers of StockNewsNow.com, The Official MicroCap News Source, and the MicroCap Review Magazine, the leading magazine in the MicroCap market - check out the latest issue here: MicroCap Review Spring 2018 IssueYou can follow the Planet MicroCap Podcast on Twitter @BobbyKKraft, and you can also listen to this interview on StockNewsNow.comFor more information about Professor Darrol Stanley and the Pepperdine Graziadio School of Business, please visit: www.bschool.pepperdine.edu This is a public episode. Ep. 72 - Cryptocurrency, Blockchain and Institutional Research for New Asset Class with Tom Shaughnessy, 51Percent Crypto Research
For this episode of the Planet MicroCap Podcast, I welcome back Tom Shaughnessy to the program. When we first spoke, we discussed the importance of stock screeners and how to use them. Since then, Tom was an equity analyst at Oppenheimer for a couple years, honing his due diligence and research skills. I decided to have Tom back on because he recently started a new venture called, 51Percent Crypto Research - “51pct.io”, where he is providing institutional-grade research covering the cryptocurrency and blockchain industry. While I’ve done an interview covering ICOs on here, I have yet to do a full-on, “crypto-dedicated” episode, and we do our best to cover a lot of ground. Since then, I have published now 73 episodes and amassed over 114,000 downloads. My goal then is the same as it is now, which is to educate the next generation of investors how to invest in MicroCap stocks. I recognized that there was so much more that I could learn as a MicroCap investor, and I wanted to take you on that journey with me.My very first guest was Ian Cassel, Founder of MicroCapClub. Not going to lie to you, I was surprised when he said yes because he doesn’t do a lot of interviews, and I am forever grateful for him coming on and sharing his wisdom. If you are joining me at Episode 70, then you may have missed this interview. So, I felt that on this 3-year anniversary, I wanted to re-share with you THE interview that started it all. Since our first interview on the Planet MicroCap Podcast on Episode 34, Tobias has written a book titled, “The Acquirer’s Multiple”, which I recently read, and wanted to discuss its contents with him. Ep. 69 - The 8 P’s for Speculative Investing with Doug Casey, Founder of Casey Research
For this episode, I spoke with Doug Casey, Founder of Casey Research. Doug is a best-selling author, world-renowned speculator and libertarian philosopher with more than 40 years experience investing in the natural resource sector. His first book, “Crisis Investing”, where he discusses how to profit from periods of economic turmoil, spent multiple weeks as #1 on the New York Times bestseller list and became the best-selling financial book of 1980.Since then, Doug has written four books, and has appeared on hundreds of radio and TV shows sharing his insights into politics, economics and investment markets. He will be a speaker at the upcoming Sprott Natural Resource Symposium in Vancouver, BC, July 17-20 – you can purchase your ticket at www.naturalresourcesymposium.com.I was presented with the opportunity to interview Doug Casey, and I couldn’t pass it up. As a listener to Planet MicroCap, just remember, I enjoy learning about all different investing approaches and philosophies because, at the end of the day, there is no ONE way to make money in the market. Today, will you be hearing about a new approach to value or growth investing? No. However, the natural resource sector makes up a big component of what we consider MicroCap stocks, and Doug is someone that’s been investing this space for quite a long time. With that said, the goal for this episode is to share his insights on what’s worked for him when investing in this highly speculative market.Click here to rate and review the Planet MicroCap PodcastThe Planet MicroCap Podcast is brought to you by SNN Incorporated, publishers of StockNewsNow.com, The Official MicroCap News Source, and the MicroCap Review Magazine, the leading magazine in the MicroCap market - check out the latest issue here: MicroCap Review Spring 2018 IssueYou can follow the Planet MicroCap Podcast on Twitter @BobbyKKraft, and you can also listen to this interview on StockNewsNow.comFor more information about Doug Casey, please visit: www.caseyresearch.com, and you can follwo him on Twitter @CaseyResearch and @RealDougCasey This is a public episode. Ep. 67 - Planet MicroCap Podcast: LIVE! with Philippe Belanger, Chris Lahiji, Sam Namiri and Travis Wiedower
Last year, I hosted the first-ever live Planet MicroCap Podcast. Ep. 62 - How Macroeconomic News Impacts MicroCap Stocks with Charles Payne, “Making Money with Charles Payne” and Wall Street Strategies
For this episode of Planet MicroCap Podcast, I spoke with Charles Payne. He is the Founder & CEO of Wall Street Strategies, and is featured on the Fox Business Network Monday-Friday at 6 PM ET on "Making Money with Charles Payne.” Charles is not only widely recognized in the media sphere as a thought leader on stock markets and politics, but is also the best-selling author of "Be Smart, Act Fast, Get Rich".One question I’ve always had is how does macroeconomic news impact MicroCap stocks? Is there a direct correlation? I’ve had a few guests that would probably argue that it doesn’t, however, I thought Charles would be best suited to provide some clarity.Mr. Payne’s program is a daily show where he gets to see how the news affects the market on a day-to-day, minute-by-minute basis, where he and his team do their best to help everyone navigate the infinite amount of information available. The goal for this episode is to try and answer the question of whether or not macroeconomic news has an impact on MicroCap stocks. Mark your calendar's for next year's Planet MicroCap Showcase. Ep. 61 - Case Studies on a Common Characteristic of Multi-bagger Stocks with Mike Schellinger, MicroCapClub.com
For this episode of Planet MicroCap Podcast, I caught up with Mike Schellinger. Mike is a full-time MicroCap investor, as well as Co-Owner of MicroCapClub. While my guests sometimes discuss a stock to support their investing thesis, we have yet to provide case studies about investing successes. I thought Mike would be the perfect person to talk about different case studies as he not only has the experience, but in past episodes he has noted about the importance of keeping track of companies that you have researched, not just companies you end up taking positions in. The goal for this episode is to drive home the importance of not only analyzing your failures, but understanding what led to your greatest successes, and why keeping careful notes is very, very helpful.Mark your calendar's for next year's Planet MicroCap Showcase.
