S7:E3 – “Obsessed”
ORIGINAL AIRDATE: September 30th, 1991 — MacGyver’s recurring nightmares of Murdoc come true on the eve of an important court case. MISSION: Phoenix Foundation has been hired to maintain security for an upcoming trial. MacGyver is plagued with visions of Murdoc that call his focus into question. This week’s highlights include: Liquid nitrogen (Chemistry) Liquid nitrogen is nitrogen in a liquid state at an extremely low temperature. It is a colorless clear liquid with a density of 0.807 g/ml at its boiling point (−195.79 °C (77 K; −320 °F)) and a dielectric constant of 1.43. Nitrogen was first liquefied at the Jagiellonian University on 15 April 1883 by Polish physicists, Zygmunt Wróblewski and Karol Olszewski. It is produced industrially by fractional distillation of liquid air. Liquid nitrogen is often referred to by the abbreviation, LN2 or “LIN” or “LN” and has the UN number 1977. Liquid nitrogen is a diatomic liquid, which means that the diatomic character of the covalent N bonding in N2 gas is retained after liquefaction. S7:E1 – “Honest Abe”
ORIGINAL AIRDATE: September 16th, 1991 — On the way to a bar mitzvah, MacGyver is hijacked by a wacky CIA agent. MISSION: MacGyver is tasked with picking up a friend’s father and escorting him to a Bar Mitzvah, but things get complicated when MacGyver wakes up from having been drugged in a military helicopter landing in a foreign country. Zener cards (Parapsychology) Zener cards are cards used to conduct experiments for extrasensory perception (ESP), most often clairvoyance. S6:E21 – “Hind-Sight”
ORIGINAL AIRDATE: May 6th, 1991 — Pete schedules surgery for his glaucoma and MacGyver shows up to relive the past. MISSION: MacGvyer and Pete embark on the lamest clip show thus far. Pete is prepped for surgery and MacGyver is offended he didn’t get an invite. This week’s highlights include: Trebeculectomy (Medical) Trabeculectomy is a surgical procedure used in the treatment of glaucoma to relieve intraocular pressure by removing part of the eye’s trabecular meshwork and adjacent structures. It is the most common glaucoma surgery performed and allows drainage of aqueous humor from within the eye to underneath the conjunctiva where it is absorbed. This outpatient procedure was most commonly performed under monitored anesthesia care using a retrobulbar block or peribulbar block or a combination of topical and subtenon (Tenon’s capsule) anesthesia. Due to the higher risks associated with bulbar blocks, topical analgesia with mild sedation is becoming more common. S6:E20 – “Trail of Tears”
ORIGINAL AIRDATE: April 29th, 1991 — MacGyver goes for a spirit walk while a power plant development threatens nearby “Indian” land. MISSION: After Phoenix Foundation testifies against the Lakota tribe in court, MacGyver intends to make things write by proving a hundred-year-old land treaty actually protects their ancient holy grounds. This week’s highlights include: Counting coup (History) Counting coup refers to the winning of prestige against an enemy by the Plains Indians of North America. Warriors won prestige by acts of bravery in the face of the enemy, which could be recorded in various ways and retold as stories. Any blow struck against the enemy counted as a coup, but the most prestigious acts included touching an enemy warrior with the hand, bow, or coup stick and escaping unharmed. Touching the first enemy to die in battle or touching the enemy’s defensive works also counted as coup. Counting coup could also involve stealing an enemy’s weapons or horses tied up to his lodge in camp. Risk of injury or death was required to count coup. S6:E19 – “Strictly Business”
ORIGINAL AIRDATE: April 8th, 1991 — HIT has contracted Murdoc to clear up the only blemish on his record… MacGyver. MISSION: MacGyver once again finds himself in Murdoc’s crosshairs. This time, the tables turn when MacGyver loses his memory and Murdoc convices a secluded family that HE is MacGyver and MacGyver is Murdoc. This week’s highlights include: Terminator (Character) The Terminator (also known as T-800 and T-850) is a fictional autonomous robot from the Terminator franchise portrayed by both Arnold Schwarzenegger and numerous actor stand-ins digitally overlayed with Schwarzenegger’s likeness. The Terminator itself is part of a series of machines created by Skynet for infiltration-based assassination missions, and while an android for its appearance resembling a human, it is described as a cybernetic organism for consisting of living tissue over a robotic endoskeleton. S6:E18 – “Faith, Hope & Charity”
ORIGINAL AIRDATE: March 18th, 1991 — Wounded MacGyver recovers in the care of sisters who run a bed and breakfast. MISSION: MacGyver steps in a bear trap and finds himself in a Rear Window, Arsenic and Old Lace, Misery scenario at a bed and breakfast plagued with suspicious deaths. This week’s highlights include: Arsenic and Old Lace (Film) Arsenic and Old Lace is a 1944 American dark comedy film directed by Frank Capra, starring Cary Grant, and based on Joseph Kesselring’s play Arsenic and Old Lace. The script adaptation was by Julius J. Epstein and Philip G. Epstein. Capra actually filmed the movie in 1941 because of star Cary Grant’s availability, but it was not released until 1944, after the original stage version had finished its run on Broadway. The lead role of Mortimer Brewster was originally intended for Bob Hope, but he could not be released from his contract with Paramount. Capra had also approached Jack Benny and Ronald Reagan before learning that Grant would accept the role. Boris Karloff played Jonathan Brewster, who “looks like Karloff,” on the Broadway stage, but he was unable to do the movie as well because he was still appearing in the play during filming, and Raymond Massey took his place. The film’s supporting cast also features Priscilla Lane, Jack Carson, Edward Everett Horton and Peter Lorre. MISSION: After the murder of a pastor friend of MacGyver’s, he must work together with the homeless community to scrounge clues as to who is responsible. As of the 2010 United States Census, the city’s population was 50,005, having grown by 11,428 (+29.6%) from 38,577 counted in the 2000 Census, which had in turn increased by 5,180 (+15.5%) from the 33,397 in the 1990 Census. S6:E15 – “High Control”

MISSION: Earl Dent is trying to turn over a new leaf but his old gang keeps pulling him back in. MacGyver helps Earl tow the line and convince his parole officer that he means well. This week’s highlights include: Methamphetamine (Narcotics) Methamphetamine in the United States is regulated under Schedule II of the Controlled Substances Act. It is approved for extremely limited pharmacological use in the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and treatment-resistant obesity, but it is primarily used as a recreational drug. Tunguska event (History) The Tunguska event was a large explosion that occurred near the Stony Tunguska River, in Yeniseysk Governorate (now Krasnoyarsk Krai), Russia, on the morning of 30 June 1908 (N.S.). The explosion over the sparsely populated Eastern Siberian Taiga flattened 2,000 km2 (770 sq mi) of forest (it caused no known human casualties). The explosion is generally attributed to the mid-air disruption of a superbolide. It is classified as an impact event, even though no impact crater has been found; the object is thought to have disintegrated at an altitude of 5 to 10 kilometres (3 to 6 miles) rather than hit the surface of the Earth. MISSION: Willis alerts MacGyver to the danger of a proposal Bartlett City development. As they dig deeper, a cover-up unfolds that implicates the children of the lead developer as conspirators. This week’s highlights include: Burns Bog (Geography) Burns Bog is an ombrotrophic peat bog located in Delta, British Columbia, Canada. It is the largest raised peat bog and the largest undeveloped urban land mass on the West Coast of the Americas. Burns Bog was originally 10,000–12,000 acres (4,000–4,900 ha) before development. S6:E12 – “Jerico Games”
ORIGINAL AIRDATE: January 7th, 1991 — An assassination at an international sports contest implicates MacGyver as the lead murder suspect. MISSION: After an awkward encounter with his ex-girlfriend at an Olympics rip-off, MacGyver is framed for the murder of the head of the company broadcasting the competition. This week’s highlights include: I was wrong. It wasn’t a female cellist, it was a male pianist. Lifecasting (Art) Lifecasting is the process of creating a three-dimensional copy of a living human body, through the use of molding and casting techniques. In rare cases lifecasting is also practiced on living animals. The most common lifecasts are of torsoes, pregnant bellies, hands, faces, and gentalia and it is possible for an experienced lifecasting practitioner to copy any part of the body. Lifecasting is usually limited to a section of the body at a time, but full-body lifecasts are achievable too. Compared with other three-dimensional representations of humans, the standout feature of lifecasts is their high level of realism and detail. MISSION: A ring of counterfeit card makers have their sights on a collection donated by Reggie Jackson and blackmail an aging athlete to steal it for them. MacGyver tracks them down as he attempts to return a box of cards stolen from the Coltons. This week’s highlights include: Dual-tone multi-frequency signaling (P) Dual-tone multi-frequency signaling (DTMF) is an in-band telecommunication signaling system using the voice-frequency band over telephone lines between telephone equipment and other communications devices and switching centers. DTMF was first developed in the Bell System in the United States, and became known under the trademark Touch-Tone for use in push-button telephones supplied to telephone customers, starting in 1963. Uranium (Chemistry) Uranium is a chemical element with symbol U and atomic number 92. It is a silvery-white metal in the actinide series of the periodic table. A uranium atom has 92 protons and 92 electrons, of which 6 are valence electrons. Uranium is weakly radioactive because all its isotopes are unstable (with half-lives of the six naturally known isotopes, uranium-233 to uranium-238, varying between 69 years and 4.5 billion years). MISSION: When MacGyver gets arrested defending protesters, they explain that the owners of a big farm have been using unsafe pesticides and the employees have been paying the price. MISSION: Harry’s bizarrely specific will sends MacGyver and an assorted cast of characters on a mad mad mad mad quest for some stolen jewels. This week’s highlights include: Koopalings (Videogames) The Koopalings (コクッパ Kokuppa?) (also known as Bowser’s minions (クッパの手下 Kuppa no Teshita?) in Japan and Europe) or 7 Bowser Team (クッパ7人衆 Kuppa Nana Ninshū?) in Japan) are a group of seven fictional, childlike characters in the Mario video game franchise by Nintendo. Their individual names are Iggy, Larry, Lemmy, Ludwig, Morton, Roy, and Wendy. Originally depicted as the children of the series antagonist Bowser, they first appeared as boss characters in the 1988 game Super Mario Bros. 3. S6:E5 – “The Wall”
ORIGINAL AIRDATE: October 22nd, 1990 — MacGyver helps to reunite an old man with his beautiful estranged granddaughter… or so he thinks MISSION: In reuniting supposed long lost family members separated by the Berlin wall, he uncovers a whole conspiracy involving a stockpile of stolen gold. Classic Uncle Fester gambit. This week’s highlights include: Triumph, the Insult Comic Dog (Comedy) Triumph, the Insult Comic Dog is a character puppet puppeteered and voiced by Robert Smigel, best known for mocking celebrities. Triumph was identified in the early appearances as a Yugoslavian Mountain Hound, hence his distinct Eastern European accent. As his name indicates, Triumph’s comedic style is almost exclusively insult comedy. Triumph often puffs a cigar, which usually falls out of his mouth when he starts talking. He debuted in 1997 on NBC’s Late Night with Conan O’Brien and also appeared on The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien from time to time, as well as the short-lived TV Funhouse, TBS’s Conan, and Adult Swim’s The Jack and Triumph Show. Smigel and Triumph have been ejected from several events for Triumph’s antics, including Westminster (three times), the Honolulu line for auditions for American Idol, and the 2004 Democratic National Convention (while shooting an aborted movie project). S6:E4 – “Twenty Questions”
ORIGINAL AIRDATE: October 8th, 1990 — Lisa Woodman makes her final appearance, this time as an intoxicated accessory to murder MISSION: Lisa tries and fails to cover up a drinking problem while MacGyver and the local police investigate a murder that took place in a home she recently broke into with friends. This week’s highlights include: Bling Ring (Crime) The Bling Ring (also known as Hollywood Hills Burglar Bunch, The Burglar Bunch, and the Hollywood Hills Burglars) were a group of convicted thieves consisting of eight teenagers and young adults based in and around Calabasas, California. They burgled the homes of several celebrities over a period believed to have been between October 2008 through August 2009. Their activities resulted in the theft of about $3 million in cash and belongings. Much of the stolen property belonged to Paris Hilton, whose house had been burgled several times, though over fifty homes were reportedly targeted for potential burglary. S6:E3 – “The Gun”
ORIGINAL AIRDATE: October 1st, 1990 — A gun with a tragic past re-enters circulation; MacGyver must end its killing spree. MISSION: A drug addict sells a piece of his father’s gun collection and it is immediately put to use. MacGyver follows the trail to get the gun out of the wrong hands and off the streets for good. This week’s highlights include: Nick Sweedo’s Jerry Wasserman interview… On closer inspection, this is probably an actual person, based on the kicking legs. Definitely not the same actress though. The Rifle (Book) The Rifle is a 1995 novel by American writer Gary Paulsen. The novel is a work of historical fiction, written for a young adult audience. The story focuses on the history of a rifle crafted prior to the American Revolution, and on the lives of its various owners until the present day. Although Paulsen romanticizes the creation and the uniqueness of the rifle, the novel provides a sober reminder the importance of handling guns responsibly. Battle Royale (Film) Battle Royale (バトル・ロワイアル Batoru Rowaiaru?) is a 2000 Japanese action thriller film adapted from the 1999 novel of the same name by Koushun Takami. It is the final film directed by Kinji Fukasaku, the screenplay written by his son Kenta, and stars Takeshi Kitano. This week’s highlights include: House of mirrors (Theme park attraction) A house of mirrors or hall of mirrors is a traditional attraction at funfairs (carnivals) and amusement parks. The basic concept behind a house of mirrors is to be a maze-like puzzle. In addition to the maze, participants are also given mirrors as obstacles, and glass panes to parts of the maze they cannot yet get to. Sometimes the mirrors may be distorted because of different curves, convex, or concave in the glass to give the participants unusual and confusing reflections of themselves, some humorous and others frightening.
