Ep 692BSH Radio #301: We can see the end now
The Flyers have put themselves into a position in which the playoff hope is, essentially, dead. On life support, at least. And the gang goes into what we need Chuck Fletcher to do to fix this, why the players are Like This, and how we might be able to implant ideas into Fletcher's brain to seize control of the team. Ep 689Postgame 4/5: This time, it really will be a turning point
They couldn't get it done in regulation, meaning despite beating the Boston Bruins for the frst time this season, a completion of the back-to-back, home-and-home sweep on Tuesday night will only result in the Philadelphia Flyers still trailing the B's by a point in the East division standings for the last playoff spot. But, the orange and black did come back from a 2-1 third period deficit to tie the game on a Sean Couturier power play goal, and then win it in overtime when Travis Sanheim blocked an ill-advised Patrice Bergeron shot from high in the zone then took it the other way for the OT winner, thanks to an assist from Bergeron blowing a tire. The Flyers still have a lot to prove before anyone is willing to call them a deserving playoff team, or deadline buyers, but at least for one night they showed us a little something against a team not named the Buffalo Sabres. Ep 686Postgame 3/31: Two days off. TWO DAYS OFF
Damn. Just like... Damn. The Philadelphia Flyers are terrible. Like, the worst. Philly lost to the Buffalo freakin' Sabres last night. And they just didn't "lose." They got blown out. Killed. Dismantled, 6-1 at the hands of a team that'd lost its previous 18 game. Eight-fucking-teen. Fun fact: Buffalo went 1-15-3 between February 25 and last night, accruing five points. Four of those points, the only four the Sabres notched in the month of March, all came at the Flyers' expense. There isn't much left to say about this team, but we sure gave it a shot on postgame. Ep 685Checking out the competition, between two games: The Buffalo Sabres
The Flyers came really close to losing a game to the Buffalo Sabres, and the Buffalo Sabres came really close to finally ending their very long losing streak. Ep 684BSH Radio #300: Well, they finally did something
As the postseason gets farther out of reach with each passing day, the gang looks at where the blame should fall. It's not just one player or one coach, it's a whole bunch of things. Ep 683Postgame 3/29: Should I even be happy?
I mean, like, the Philadelphia Flyers won, earned two points in the standings after trailing 3-0, but I'm not happy. A win is a win, but come on. Trailing at any point to the Buffalo Sabres is bad, let alone by three goals through 40 minutes. In the end, Philly pulled out the two points and asserted their dominance over an inferior opponent, but these should be no sweat games. Not games that require a shortening of the bench and an overuse of the veteran players just to get a chance to beat a team that has lost more games in a row than any squad since the Outdoor Life Network Era began. Whatever. Just listen to the postgame. I took callers again. I don't even know anymore. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 680Postgame 3/27: Samuel Morin saved the season
The Flyers won a game 2-1 which is shocking in itself, but the fact that Samuel Morin scored the game-winner, the first goal of his career, late in the third period after Nolan Patrick tied the game with a second period power play goal is just... wow. What a freaking day. Plenty of questions remain, but for one day we can be happy with a solid defensive effort, some attitudinal play, and a pair of much-maligned first round draft picks coming up big when the season was on the brink of disaster. Ep 673Checking out the competition: The jerks up the turnpike
The Covid outbreak scrambled the Flyers' schedule up a bit in February and as a result, the Flyers and Devils haven't played a game since late January. Since then the wheels have fallen off for the Flyers and the Devils have won some tough games, but the Devils are still not a good hockey team. The Flyers should still be able to beat them. Ep 670Postgame 3/18: Oskar LOVEBOMB
The Philadelphia Flyers played well for two-and-a-half periods and were leading the East Division-leading New York Islanders 3-0 with about 12:10 left to play in the third period. Then, in an all too familiar scene, one bad thing happened and, suddenly, the score was tied with 5:33 left in regulation. Then, Oskar Lindblom came to the rescue. After Lindblom's "reset" scratching the night prior, he netted his second score of the night with under three minutes on the clock, and this time the orange and black would not relinquish their lead, handing the Isles their first loss in regulation on home ice since last February. New York had secured at least one point in 15 straight at Nassau Coliseum before Oskar's tie-breaking tally. You don't want to read any more, you want to listen to the postgame. Ep 662Postgame 3/11: Flyers Get Worked Like You Wouldn't Believe
I'll be here a while thinking about that one. The first straw was surrendering the first goal, but the game was a not-so-beautiful disaster in which the Philadelphia Flyers lost, yet again, to the Washington Capitals. Philly played like a bunch of creatures without a purpose most of the night and have now gone 2-5-1 against NOT-BUFFALO since returning from the Covid break in mid-February. Whatever the problem is, the orange and black need to wake their minds up quick, because they've got a ton of games to play in not a lot of time and they won't stay home for all of them- after Saturday's finale with Washington they've got four straight and 6/10 on the road. Anyway, even I couldn't see beyond the gray sky in this one, because this team constantly makes the same mistake twice. Ok, I'm over this. Put the postgame on you sound system. Ep 660BSH Radio #297: So when do we sound the alarms?
It's been a lackluster couple of weeks for your Flyers, and as such, the gang is reevaluating some things. Do we worry about Carter Hart? Were we wrong about depth? Did we overestimate Ivan Provorov? Ep 659Postgame 3/9: Nolan Patrick, Shootout Specialist
The Philadelphia Flyers took a 1-0 lead over the Buffalo Sabres less than two minutes into Tuesday night's contest at the Wells Fargo Center thanks to James van Riemsdyk's eleventh tally of the year. Everything looked as it should, the perfect Get-Right Game coming off three losses in their last four games. Yet, somehow, Buffalo, a team that had either been shutout or held to two goals in six straight, lead 3-1 after 20 minutes. Carter Hart (3 goals against on 8 shots) gave way to Brian Elliott to start the middle frame, and the comeback was on. Kevin Hayes and Claude Giroux scored in the second period to ensure a 4-3 score through 40 minutes, and then Shayne Gostisbehere tied the game on the power play in the third ensuring a point. Sean Couturier should've ended the game with a breakaway in OT, but made up for that attempt by opening the shootout with a goal, followed shortly by a snipe from Nolan Patrick and a pair of saves by Brian Elliott to complete the comeback. Should they ever have been trialing? No. And we cover that. But it's hard to complain too much about a 33-20 shot advantage, and a 72-37 attempt advantage when they come away with the two points. Well, that the gist of it. For the analysis, check out the postgame. And download the Locker Room app. We're going to be using it at least weekly, whether for postgames or other content.
