020: Silvia Turonova -- Your Pain is Your Personal Power: Ditch Your Struggles and Start Living Up to Your Purpose
Silvia's biggest passion is showing people how their emotional pain, their challenges and struggles contribute to their growth. As a young girl, she was growing up in a destructive environment which carried violence, drugs and alcohol abuse in different forms. After she completed her bachelor's degree, she knew that she needed some massive change, something crazy and life transforming. At the age of 22 she grabbed her suitcase and moved to the U.S. with $500 in her pocket and a dream in her heart. She was obsessed with changing her life and helping her family in her country. Even when she struggled at the beginning and was far away from what we call the "American dream", she knew that life isn't only black and white and if she can fix her mindset and see the world differently, she can change her life. She started to educate herself, she read a lot and she studied her own behavior. One question which triggered her mind more than anything was "How can we handle pain and struggle better and thrive in life in spite of challenges?" About 2 and a half years ago, she launched her blog "Courage Within You" where she was sharing my stories, experience and knowledge with others. She knew that she found a lot of support in reading and learning from different self-development giants so she decided to do the same. After 2 years of blogging, she self-published her first book Courage Within You and now is in the process of building her own coaching business. Listen as Silvia and I talk about: The one question to ask yourself to shift your perspective on struggle How she learned empathy through struggle Why vulnerability is a strength How pain can motivate you How she learned empathy through struggle Why vulnerability is a strength How pain can motivate you How you can take more responsibility for yourself by studying your feelings How the law of attraction is working to help Silvia make a difference in the lives of others How writing can help you to better understand your feelings A step-by-step process to examine and accept your pain Why forgiveness is her biggest success Overcoming fear by using fear to scare a fear The challenges and opportunities of being an immigrant The power of consistency Why she began writing and sharing her story The Idea behind her Mastermind and Course - The School of Courage Silvia's morning routine Why meditation has changed her life How you can participate in Silvia's missions --------------Resources Mentioned: --------------------- The Gifts of Imperfection - Brené Brown Awaken the Giant Within - Tony Robbins Courage Within You - Sylvia Turnova's first book Contact Sylvia, download the Free Challenge Pro Worksheet and explore more @ https://www.silviaturon.com/ My blog from my 15 months in Thailand -My blog 5-Minute Journal - A toothbrush for your mind Join our purpose seeking podcast community at... 018: Jivasu Pradeep Kumar -- Building Healthy Identity in a Changing World through Naturality
Jivasu's (Pradeep Kumar) teachings are called Naturality. Naturality is to 'to live according to our nature' and 'walk our own path'. The core of Jivasu's teachings is about the fear of death (and life) and the emergence of the ego in response to that fear. The ego helps us to escape the fear of death and promises us an illusory immortality. This illusory immortality is needed during the early stages of life but we must eventually go beyond the ego in order to experience freedom from fear. Born in 1956, Jivasu was trained as a pediatrician in India. He and his wife, Karen (his teacher) served in the remote villages of Uttarakhand Himalayas for thirteen years. While living at Sivananda Ashram in Rishikesh, India, he experienced his first awakening, which came to full fruition twelve years later in an experience of 'wholeness' and 'freedom from the psychological fear of the death.' Eventually the process culminated in the realization that death is an illusion. The mind and body die but consciousness is immortal. Currently, he is teaching courses about Naturality (Sahajta) and the fear of death and life in Canada, India, Ireland, Barbados and Dominica. He also teaches acupuncture courses for the Contemporary Acupuncture Program at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. He conceived Expansiveness Meditation (Braham dhyan) and the Breath of Dissolution (Kalajayi pranayam), two elements of the Naturality teachings. He also teaches that all spiritual experiences have a biological basis. When the brain is cleared of its memories and emotional scars, it will connect to and clearly reflect the universe within and around us. Jivasu is the author of many books including: Meditation: A Path of Relaxation, Awareness and Expansion of Awareness, From Death to Immortality, Naturality, Science of Naturality, and Offerings in Longing and Love. Listen as Jivasu and I talk about: How a 5 year stay at a Hindu monastery helped him to overcome his fear of dying How Fear prevents you from discovering your purpose Why having a healthy identity is essential to discovering yourself How to know your natural personality by examining your body and asking certain questions The stages of enlightenment that come from Naturality The feelings you get from living out your purpose within your true nature How each of us must open our own, unique door to fully explore one's Naturality and purpose Why religious, group settings prevent one from fully understanding their purpose How his Eastern and Western cultural help him to discover his Naturality Why he has decided to be a family man instead of a monk Thoughts on good teaching Why he doesn't care about a following How to educate children in today's culture Why one should take the path of least resistence to discover Purpose Why yoga and meditation are necessary tools to get started in Naturality Why one no longer needs yoga and meditation once they are living their Naturality The science of yoga, meditation, and Naturality Why science is the universal language of the world How to get involved in Jivasu's upcoming immersive, Naturality courses around the world Listen as Jivasu leads a guided Inner Light meditation to conclude the episode --------------Resources Mentioned: --------------------- The Rise of Superman - Steven Kotler The Denial of Death - Ernest Becker Strange Order of Things -Antonio Demassio A Brief History of Everything - Ken Wilbur Finding Your True Personal Nature Questionaire - developed by Jivasu Find Naturality Programs around the world, contact Jivasu, and join the movement @ http://www.naturalitypath.com/ Join our purpose seeking podcast community at... **Special Episode** -- Reflection on My 10-Day Vipassana Meditation Experience with the Catching Z's Podcast
Today's podcast episode is a new kind of episode. It's actually a podcast episode that I'm republishing from my friends' podcast - Catching Z's: The Millennials Guide to Mindfulness. The guest in this episode is me, Tanur Badgley. In my first ever guest appearance on a podcast my friend, mentor, and podcasting accountability partner Nick Zolfo and I really broke down my 10-day Vipassana meditation course the day after I completed my course in Thailand. For those of you that don't know, Vipassana is a technique developed by Gotama the Buddha 2500 years ago. The word Vipassana means seeing things as they really are. Vipassana is about removing the root of your impurities through self observation and mastery of the mind with the goal of happiness and liberation from suffering. I decided to ask for permission to publish our episode directly into People of Purpose. Not because of this feat that I genuinely am proud to have accomplished, but because I hope it nudges you to do a course yourself. I think one mark of my success after leaving the course is if I can do my part to get the people I love and respect and wish the best to do a ten day course of their own! ------------Reccommended Resources:-------------- My Teacher S.N. 013: Joe Sessel -- From Prison to Purpose - Utilizing His Natural Talents To Communicate Choices and Be a Conduit of His Learning to Give More Value Than He Takes
Joe Sessel found his purpose serving an 11 year term in Federal Prison. From age 19 to 30. In prison Joe found a love for books, sought out mentors, developed his physical fitness and refined his focus to add value to the world. For Joe prison became a limitless library and training ground to become his best self. Today he uses the skills, knowledge, and wisdom acquired from his prison days to be a serial social entrepreneur, a supply chain professional, and real estate investor in Topeka, Kansas. Raised by a single Jewish mom in Topeka, Kansas, Joe was a bright but troubled and rebellious child. He was first convicted of criminal activity at age 10 when he joined older kids breaking into a Catholic school. Failure to play by the rules and obey the law was a pattern for Joe in adolescence. His behavior earned him multiple stays in short term mental hospitals, diagnoses of everything from Acute Paranoid Schizophrenia to Manic-Depressive to Anti-Social Disorder. He was committed in 1995 for an indefinite period at Saint Francis in Salina, Kansas and spent 9 months in a mental ward in the middle of nowhere. Joe began selling drugs his freshman year in high school, and by the time he was 19 years old he was selling about $1 Million dollars of meth a month in Northeast Kansas. During this period, Joe was also a public speaker for the Shawnee County Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program and a choir singer and soloist in many choirs, including a performance of Gustav Mahler's 8th symphony with the Kansas City Symphony Choir and Washburn University Choir. On May 7th, 1999, 3 days after his 19th birthday, Joe was arrested for possessing $172,000 of meth in a federal investigation called "Operation Heartland". During the 11 years he spent behind bars, he was able to focus on himself and find purpose. Using his brain and his skills for good became a focus of his life after asking the question "who am I and what kind of person do I want to be?" He was 21 years old the first time he considered these questions seriously. An autodidact with an abundance of time, Joe pursued studies in Philosophy, Literature, Language, Communication and Intelligence theory, Law and Medical Science, Business, Real Estate Investing, and Neuro Linguistic Programming. Today, Joe is on the path of searching for meaning among his fellow humans. He wants to create more value in the world than he consumes, and that is a basis for his actions. His frame is one of lifelong learning. He believes that things aren't good or bad, but instead that all events are opportunities for learning. "What is the lesson?" is always the question. Joe is dedicated to using his communication skills as a conduit for sharing what he has learned on his journey and helping people to see more and better choices in life. He believes that he has more in life than he could have ever hoped for and hopes that his gratitude and enthusiasm for life are contagious. 007: Tanur Badgley -- The Tables Have Turned - Your Host Becomes the Guest
The tables have turned and your host has become the guest! I figured it was time listeners got to know their host better. I've been hearing a lot of intrigue from episode 000 in which I introduced my story and my purpose. If you wanted to know what I'm doing with my life, what experiences have shaped me, and ways in which I think you can seek and find your purpose this is your episode. For today's episode I asked my good friend Austin Schauer to interview me. Austin has a unique combination of being seriously-minded, but also hilarious and able to add a lighthearted touch to deeper conversation. I think he does an excellent job at asking good questions and drawing out substantive answers. Another reason I asked Austin to host this episode is because we share many common experiences. Austin and I both grew up in Topeka, Kansas and were even born in the same hospital. We were in a middle school rock band together, went to the same high school, and did policy debate together. We also have both taught in Thailand. Austin actually just arrived back from Thailand. It was a treat to catchup for the first time in a few years back in our hometown. I admire Austin's enthusiasm for life and his faith in following his unique path. After graduating from the University of Kansas, he got his Master's degree in English from the University of Oregon. He is planning to move to LA soon to write sketch comedy. I'm so thankful for all the preparation Austin put into preparing for and delivering this episode. Please enjoy this episode with your host Tanur Badgley. Today's guest is Julia Starr - A self-described feminist wellness warrior from the Iron Range of Minnesota. Julia has traveled around the world as a student, teacher, business strategy consultant and farmer. Her current endeavor, Starr Health Co. is a coaching and wellness platform that provides services to young women seeking support and guidance. Her grand vision? 001: Dr. Andy Stella -- Healing Physical Trauma Through Matrix Repatterning Therapy
Meet my mentor, friend, and primary concussion doctor who helped relieve so much of my bodily trauma from my fall at Yosemite National Park. I originally came to Dr. Andy in 2014 for trauma relief from my fall at Yosemite in 2011. After just a handful of appointments I noticed a tremendous reduction in the tension throughout my body and an increased sense of feeling integrated, whole, and coordinated. After I suffered another concussion in February of 2015 Andy was the first person I came to. He very quickly stabilized my neck tension and headaches giving me a newfound ability to relax that I was scared I had lost forever. Doctor Andy is the primary person to bring me out of three weeks of lying down in a dark room for relief. From over a dozen appointments with Andy, we have forged a personal relationship that I consider to be quite deep and meaningful. I see him as a mentor and friend every bit as much as I see him as a doctor. He's the only doctor that I've seen for an hour then spent an hour sharing a beer over happy hour at a cafe next to the Mississippi River. Dr Andy Stella DC has been a chiropractor since 1988 focusing on various soft tissue therapies and motion chiropractic in his quest to help people heal. In 2003 he was introduced to a life and career changing new paradigm of hands on bodywork called Matrix Repatterning Therapy. He recognizes, finds and more permanently treats these tension patterns using two handed gentle compression therapy. Doctor Andy works has significantly reduced the symptoms of hundreds of people oftentimes as their last resort in concussion and bodily trauma. His commitment to excellence with this technique has led him to having the most training hours of all the practitioners besides the teachers. And, he's not done; now sharing as a teacher also. *** Visit integralchiro.com to learn about Doctor Andy, what matrix repattering therapy is all about, and read powerful testimonies from his patients.
