Ciao a tutti! Oggi leggerò in inglese “How wisdom got out”, una storia tradizionale africana, in particolare del Ghana. Qui sotto potete trovare sia il testo in inglese sia la traduzione in italiano. Grazie e buon ascolto! Long ago, one old man had all the wisdom in the world. His name was Father Anansi. People always came to him with questions like: “Father Anansi, what should I do to make my son behave better?” or “Father Anansi, what should I do to make my aunty well again?” or “Father Anansi, what should I do to make my vegetables grow?”. And he answered 100 other such questions every day. People paid him well for his wisdom, and he grew rich and his family was never hungry. But Anansi feared that one day somebody would try to steal all his wisdom, and he would no longer possess the thing that brought him respect and wealth. And so one day, he decided to collect together all his wisdom in one big pot and hide it in the forest. Now his son was called Kweku Tsin, and he was as smart and as tricky as his father. He suspected that Anansi had some secret plot, and he decided to follow him. He walked behind his father and his big pot, until he came to the tallest tree in the forest. Anansi meant to climb to the top of the tree, and hang his pot of wisdom on the highest branch where nobody would see it. Anansi tied the pot in front of his body, and then he tried to climb the tree. But try as he might, he could not get beyond the first branch because he fell down to the ground. “Ouch!” He stood up and his back. Not one to give up easily, he started to climb again. This time he reached the second branch before falling back to the ground. “Ooooh Ouch!” A third time, Anansi tried to climb the tree, and on this occasion he just managed to grab the third branch before he tumbled back onto the ground. “Oooh, Oooh, Ouch!” His son stepped out from behind the bush where he had been hiding and said: “Father, I have seen you try three times to climb the tree with the pot dangling in front of you. Thank you for this amusing comedy. My sides hurt because I have been laughing so much. But let me tell you how to do this. Put the pot on your back, and then you will find it so much easier to climb the tree.” And Anansi immediately grew angry and threw the pot down onto the ground: “What is the point of all this wisdom,” he demanded, “if my son knows how to do this simple thing better than I do?” And as he spoke, all the wisdom flew out of the broken pot and scattered around the four corners of the world. And that is why there is, despite all appearances to the contrary, so much wisdom in the world. People know how to take care of things, how to make things work, and how to get things done. And all that wisdom is due to the bad temper of Father Anansi who threw down the pot of wisdom. Molto tempo fa, un vecchio aveva tutta la saggezza del mondo. Il suo nome era padre Anansi. La gente veniva sempre da lui con domande come: “Padre Anansi, cosa devo fare per far comportare meglio mio figlio?” o “Padre Anansi, cosa devo fare per far star bene mia zia?” o “Padre Anansi, cosa devo fare per far crescere i miei ortaggi?”. E ogni giorno rispondeva ad altre 100 domande del genere. La gente lo pagava bene per la sua saggezza, lui si arricchì e la sua famiglia non ebbe mai fame. Ma Anansi temeva che un giorno qualcuno avrebbe cercato di rubare tutta la sua saggezza, e non avrebbe più posseduto la cosa che gli ha portato rispetto e ricchezza. E così un giorno decise di raccogliere tutta la sua saggezza in un grande vaso e nasconderla nella foresta. Ora, suo figlio si chiamava Kweku Tsin, ed era intelligente e furbo come suo padre. Sospettava che Anansi avesse un complotto segreto e decise di seguirlo. Camminò dietro suo padre e il suo grande vaso, finché giunse all’albero più alto della foresta. Anansi intendeva salire in cima all’albero e appendere il vaso della saggezza al ramo più alto, dove nessuno l’avrebbe visto.

L’episodio di questa settimana è stato pensato per i bambini, ma è anche una storia per gli adulti che si vogliono godere un momento di spensieratezza. Quindi vi presento, in collaborazione con Valentina….. “Il topo e la giraffa”! Grazie e buon ascolto!

Oggi leggerò il terzo volume della serie “Mr Men” di Roger Hargraves: Mr Happy!! Grazie e buon ascolto! On the other side of the world, where the sun shines hotter than here, and where the trees are a hundred feet tall, there is a country called Happyland. As you might very well expect everybody who lives in Happyland is as happy as the day is long. Wherever you go you see smiling faces all round. It’s such a happy place that even the flowers seem to smile in Happyland. And, as well as all the animals in Happyland are happy as well. If you’re never seen a mouse smile, or a cat, or a dog, or even a worm – go to Happyland! This is a story about someone who lived there who happened to be called Mr Happy. Mr Happy was fat and round, and happy! He lived in a small cottage beside a lake at the foot of a mountain and close to a wood in Happyland. One day, while Mr Happy was out walking through the tall trees in those woods near his home, he came across something which was really rather extraordinary. There in the trunk of one of the very tall trees was a door. Not a very large door, but nevertheless a door. Certainly a door. A small, narrow, yellow door. Definitely a door! “I wonder who lives here?” thought Mr Happy to himself, and he turned the handle of that small, narrow, yellow door. The door wasn’t locked and it swung open quite easily. Just inside the small, narrow, yellow door was a small, narrow, winding staircase, leading downwards. Mr Happy squeezed his rather large body through the rather thin doorway and began to walk down the stairs. The stairs went round and round and down and down and round and down and down and round. Eventually, after a long time, Mr Happy reached the bottom of the staircase. He looked around and saw, there in front of him, another small, narrow door. But this one was red. Mr Mappy knocked at the door. “Who’s there?” said a voice. A sad, squeaky sort of voice. “Who’s there?” Mr Happy pushed open the red door slowly, and there, sitting on a stool, was somebody who looked exactly like Mr Happy, except that he didn’t look happy at all. In fact he looked downright miserable. “Hello,” said Mr Happy. “I’m Mr Happy.” “Oh, you are indeed,” sniffed the person who looked like Mr Happy but wasn’t. “Well, my name is Mr Miserable, and I’m the most miserable person in the world.” “Why are you so miserable?” asked Mr Happy. “Because I am,” replied Mr Miserable. “How would you like to be happy like me?” asked Mr Happy. “I’d give anything to be happy,” said Mr Miserable. “But I’m so miserable I don’t think I could ever be happy,” he added miserably. Mr Happy made up his mind quickly. “Follow me,” he said. “Where to?” asked Mr Miserable. “Don’t argue,” said Mr Happy, and he went through the small, narrow, red door. Mr Miserable hesitated, and then followers. Up and up the winding staircase they went. Up and up and round and round and up and round and round and up until they came out into the wood. “Follow me,” said Mr Happy again, and they both set off through the wood back to Mr Happy’s cottage. Mr Miserable stayed in Mr Happy’s cottage for quite some time. And during that time the most remarkable thing happened. Because he was living in Happyland Mr Miserable ever so slowly stopped being miserable and started to be happy. His mouth stopped turning down at the corners. And ever so slowly it started turning up at the corners. And eventually Mr Miserable did something that he’d never done in the whole of his life. He smiled! And he chuckled, which turned into a giggle, which became a laugh. A big booming hearty huge giant large enormous laugh. And Mr Happy was so surprised that he started to laugh as well. And both of them laughed and laughed. They laughed until their sides hurt and their eyes watered. Mr Miserable and Mr Happy laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed. They went outside and still they laughed. And because they were laughing so much everybody who saw them started laughing as well.
