Megalopolis Spoiler Free Review
Today on the 5: Lando and I watched another film togther over the weekend. We chose the highly divisive 2024 film Megalopolis. It's both fairly straightforward and wildly artistic. It's easy to see why the reaction to it has been all over the place.

Arion Retro Review
Today on the 5: I came across a Japanese animated film that had a unique premise. 1986's Arion takes many of the classic Greek mythology figures we're familiar with and dials up the dramatic twists and turns their interpersonal relationships take. I loved it!

Just Talk About The Movie!
Today on the 5: I recently picked up the Blu-Ray for Return Of The Living Dead III, a really fun and different take on a zombie film that Lando and I just talked about. One of the things I was looking forward to was the commentary track with Melinda Clarke, and I really wish it had not been ruined by an obnoxious secondary speaker.

Recommended Impracticality
Today on the 5: Most of the time in our lives, we should consider impulsive actions with a default position of restraint. From time to time, however, you should break out oif that restraint and act on the impluse. That's right, this 5 is about a pair of sunglasses!

Those Beyond The Wall Book Review
Today on the 5: The latest selection in the Club Twit book club was Those Beyond The Wall by Micaiah Johnson. I read it, and it was one of the more memorable books in how clear the themes and messaging of the author are presented.

Ditching The Pretense
Today on the 5: A lot of people are upset over a change to the structure of the "Opinion" pages in the Washington Post. The change was mandated by Jeff Bezos, and I'm wondering if the actions he and others in his circle of wealth are taking aren't doing everyone a big favor.

A Show Worth Listening To
Today on the 5: On episode 68 of the Everyday People podcast, friend of the show Ant Pruitt was kind enough to give us a promotional shoutout. Since that show is one of essentials listens every week, I'm happy to return the favor.

Return Of The Living Dead III Retro Review
Today on the 5: Over the weekend Lando and I watched Return Of The Living Dead III, a movie I'm almost certain I never watched before. Not only was it something totally different than I expected, it was so good I bought a physical copy of it before we finished it!

The Optimistic Blind Spot
Today on the 5: One of the things you'll hear proponents of generative AI talk about is how these tools can't succeed unless they can advance without any limitations. Many of these people also talk about how they're happy to give these tools and technologies full access to their lives. What bothers me is how much acess to others they provide when they do it.

S10 Ep 934Side Stories
EThis week we're talking about the Orbital, A City On Mars, The Book Of Elsewhere, and The House Of Clocks. Show music by HeartBeatHero and OGRE. Support the show! Get up to 2 months free podcasting service with our Libsyn code OZONE

Building Better Worlds
Today on the 5: Microsoft showed off a tool that could potentially create dynamic video game worlds in the future. Assuming it scales and is used to augment human creativity, this is a case where generative tools make sense to me.

Messaging Spaghetti
Today on the 5: I was listening to a debate between political operatives about messaging voters and it got me thinking about the ocean of options for communication we have now. I wonder how much worse navigating such a dense communication ecosphere will get and how we're going to wade through it all.

The House Of Clocks Retro Review
Today on the 5: Lando found a Lucio Fulci movie titled The House Of Clocks that sounded fascinating and ourside of the typical realm of my experiences with Fulci. We both watched it, and it's a movie that will leave you thinking about you saw and what it means for a while after.

Orbital Book Review
Today on the 5: I recently finished a book titled Orbital by Samantha Harvey. It's a fictional journey across 16 orbits of the ISS detailing the daily lives and internal stories of the astronauts onboard. It's an amazingly well written and interesting book, but it's defiinitely not for everyone.

S10 Ep 933Mothra Wiles
EThis week we're talking about the Women's Professional Billiard Association, SpaceGodzilla, The Book Of Elsewhere, and Sweets From A Stranger. Show music by HeartBeatHero and OGRE. Support the show! Get up to 2 months free podcasting service with our Libsyn code OZONE

The True A La Carte Network
Today on the 5: A recent report shows that people are watching YouTube on their TVs than their phones. This makes sense to me since the streaming platform has basically delivered the selective cable lineup that people have wanted for years.
