S5 Ep 14Owning It: Anxious about returning to normal post-covid?

For this episode of Owning It, it's just me and I'm talking through a very real anxiety that a lot of us are facing: anxiety around returning to normal post covid. It might sound silly, to be anxious about getting back to the life we lived before - when Covid has been a major source of anxiety for many of us, but something has happened. We've found comfort in the discomfort and we've gotten very used to life in lockdown, so emerging out of it brings its own challenges, socially and physically for our bodies. I hope you find this episode helpful and reassuring.Order yourself (or for a friend) a copy of my new book, Everything I Wish I'd Known About Anxiety: A Roadmap out of the Overwhelm and Back to Yourself here Follow me on Instagram @CarolineForan and @OwningItPodcast, on Tik Tok hereSubscribe to my weekly Substack here (not always anxiety related, often parenting related)Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/owningittheanxietypodcast. S5 Ep 13Owning It: No BS techniques to calm anxiety with Dermot Whelan

In this episode, Dermot Whelan, comedian and radio presenter Dermot Whelan talks shares his story of anxiety, how he burned himself out to the point of arriving at a comedy festival (where he was due to perform) in an ambulance. After reaching this crescendo, Dermot eventually found meditation, and though it was somewhat underwhelming, he noticed a much calmer version of himself begin to emerge. Now he is a meditation teacher and has learned many techniques to dissolve anxiety, which he shares here. With humour and simplicity, Dermot will convince you that focusing on your breath is perhaps your most under utilised anxiety reducing tool. His new book, Mind Full, is out now and is a super enjoyable and informative read that will open your world to meditation and its many benefits. S5 Ep 12Owning It: Revisiting our childhood experiences with Disney Channel child star Alyson Stoner

For this episode I am joined by the wonderful Alyson Stoner. A super successful child star, Alyson appeared to have it all going on: she was the featured dancer (as a little girl) in the Missy Elliot Work It video. She was on several Disney projects, Cheaper by the Dozen franchise, the Step Up franchise and so much more. But with such a high pressure environment that was sent against the backdrop of a chaotic and turbulent home life, things were not as wonderful as they may have seemed. Alyson chats to me here about the trauma she experienced, how her anxiety manifested as an eating disorder, how and when she knew she needed some help, how she came through it, and how she now reconciles her childhood experiences so that they inform her life as a wellbeing and mental health advocate now. She's incredibly articulate and she's just launched a new positive mental health platform called Movement Genius which I urge you to check out.Order yourself (or for a friend) a copy of my new book, Everything I Wish I'd Known About Anxiety: A Roadmap out of the Overwhelm and Back to Yourself here Follow me on Instagram @CarolineForan and @OwningItPodcast, on Tik Tok hereSubscribe to my weekly Substack here (not always anxiety related, often parenting related)Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/owningittheanxietypodcast. S5 Ep 9Owning It: How 'neurocycling' can help your anxiety with Dr Caroline Leaf

For this episode my guest is the incredible cognitive neuroscientist and author Dr Caroline Leaf. We talk about anxiety and how important it is as a messaging system and how we should not want to live a life without any anxiety at all. In her new book, Cleaning Up Your Mental Mess, she talks through the 5 steps of neurocycling - which is a term I had never heard before - and how it will help with phases of considerable stress, anxiety and depression. We use my own experience as an example (I got the date wrong for our recording and FREAKED out when I realised I had messed up). I hope you find this episode and Caroline's insights helpful. S5 Ep 8Owning It: Men and the stigma of admitting they're struggling

For this episode I am joined by Gareth Mullins, head chef and self described perfectionist and high achiever at Dublin's 5 star hotel The Marker. Gareth reached out to me a few years ago to say he was struggling, he didn't understand why and he didn't want to admit that he was having a hard time with anxiety. He went to the doctor, who suggested medication, which he didn't want to take because to him that meant admitting defeat or weakness. Here we talk about the stigma that unfortunately still lingers around mental health, particularly when it comes to men. Is there room for anxiety in a high pressure, nothing-less-than-perfection work environment? There needs to be. Gareth runs regular cooking courses online - they are brilliant - check him out at @garmullins on Instagram for more details and announcements of upcoming courses and classes. My new book NAKED is out now, get it here! S5 Ep 7Owning It: How to make self love a habit with expert Fiona Brennan

Fiona Brennan is a hypnotherapist and two-time author of bestselling wellbeing books. Her latest book, The Self Love Habit, is what we discuss here, in relation to anxiety of course. How can self love really impact our anxiety? What is the divided self she speaks of? How do we engage with our inner critic: the driving force of our anxiety for the most part and what can we do each day to bring more self-compassion into our routine?Fiona's book is out now. S5 Ep 6Owning It: Self worth with Greg O'Shea

For this episode I am joined by Greg O'Shea, Rugby Sevens star here in Ireland who shot to fame across the UK and Ireland after appearing on Love Island. A reality TV series where everyone wants a piece of you, and as soon as you do something that doesn't please the masses, you're down over 700,000 instagram followers. Is it possible to keep self worth and such a measurable metric of success separate? How do you cope with the opinions of the world coming at you? Greg talks death threats, remembering what's important and knowing how to measure his self worth and keep anxiety at a level he can manage. For 25, he has an impressive perspective on what counts and what doesn't (25 was the age I was when everything fell apart for me) and almost without realising it, he has cultivated a set of skills for keeping his mental health in excellent condition these past few years. He's a genuinely nice, humble guy who knows how important it is to normalise mental health struggles and I was delighted to have him as a guest. My new book, NAKED: Ten Truths To Change Your Life, is out now. S5 Ep 5How to harness the anxious voice in your head with neuroscientist Ethan Kross

Ethan Kross, neuroscientist, psychologist and Professor at the University of Michigan joins me on Owning It to talk about his new book - CHATTER - and how we can better understand and then harness the voice in our head that leads us to all sorts of maladaptive issues, namely anxiety. We talk through some seriously effective tools such as 'temporal distancing' which give a useful structure to concepts we've already explored in Owning It, or things you may already practise yourself but aren't even aware of. S5 Ep 4Owning It: Why Don't You Like Me? With Stefanie Preissner

For this episode I am joined by the brilliant writer Stefanie Preissner for what I would say is my most radically honest and open conversation on this series to date. Stefanie and I talk about therapy, smart ways of finding the right person for you and knowing whether or not it's working for you, we talk about Stefanie's own anxiety, the fact that she is currently in the midst of not feeling so wonderful (and so often we only talk about bad times once we've come out the other side of them), we talk about both of our needs to be liked by others and we also discuss an issue that had bothered us both: I thought Stefanie didn't like me (she had blocked me on Instagram) and Stefanie thought I didn't like her (so she decided to block me from her Instagram). Both of us feeling the same anxieties, grappling with the same fears and so we talk it out. I hope you find this one as refreshing to listen to as I found discussing it. S5 Ep 3Owning It: Let's talk about the fear of being publicly shamed

For this episode I am joined by Ali Ryan, CEO and founder of popular website GOSS.ie. Ali kindly shares her story with me, after having experienced public shaming following a sexual encounter with a former partner that she had assumed was private but found out it had been recorded and then shared without her consent. The anxiety that ensued was crippling for this woman who now bravely opens up about something that to this day is incredibly difficult for her. We also talk generally about public shaming, cancel culture and how nasty things can get online, which can be such a source of anxiety for all of us listening too.My new book NAKED is out now, and as per the title, it will change your life, I promise! S4 Ep 14Owning It: Daniella Moyles shares her anxiety story

For this episode - one of my last of the season - I am joined by the beautiful Daniella Moyles who shares her anxiety story with me. Apologies for the sound quality on this - the internet connection was very dodgy while we tried to speak on Zoom! I've known Daniella for a good few years now and when I first met her, I would have been completely shocked to be told she struggled with anxiety, but that just goes to show you that anxiety is something that anyone can experience. She seemed to have it all - confidence, beauty, success, she was always sharing pics from some exotic destination around the globe. Nothing phased her, I thought, while my anxiety stole me of so many travelling experiences (but that just happens to be one of the ways in which it affected me). But I was wrong. Thanks to Daniella for her honesty and vulnerability here and if you are looking for a page-turning read that's beautifully written, get yourself a copy of her book JUMP. It was number 1 on the Irish bestseller list for a number of weeks running so you don't just have to take my word for it.Please support Owning It via the supporter feature on Acast, or tip the series via patreon - www.patreon.com/carolineforan.Order yourself (or for a friend) a copy of my new book, Everything I Wish I'd Known About Anxiety: A Roadmap out of the Overwhelm and Back to Yourself here Follow me on Instagram @CarolineForan and @OwningItPodcast, on Tik Tok hereSubscribe to my weekly Substack here (not always anxiety related, often parenting related)Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/owningittheanxietypodcast. S4 Ep 13Owning It: My Mother on how to support someone you love with anxiety

For this episode I am joined by my lovely mammy Aideen to talk about what it was like for her to see me, her daughter, go through a very tough time with anxiety and help listeners when it comes to articulating their anxiety to their parents if they find that their parents don't understand. This is also a great episode to ask a family member to listen to in order to support you. She talks about what she learned about mental health, anxiety and how things have changed since her generation when anxiety was never spoken of and mental health issues were put down to 'suffering with your nerves'. S4 Ep 12Owning It: How to help your anxious child with Dr Malie Coyne

In this episode of Owning It I am joined by Dr Malie Coyne who is an incredible clinical psychologist. She is the author of Love In Love Out, which is a compassion based approach to parenting your anxious child. Whether or not you have kids it's incredibly helpful to understand how anxiety manifests in children; it helped me to understand my own childhood anxiety in terms of learning about the development of a young brain, particularly how we learn to store long term memory and our fear response in our brain long before we develop logic and reason which enables us to rationalise our fears and worries. Don't miss Malie's book, widely available in stores and online and follow her on instagram for lots of child related mental health content. S4 Ep 11Owning It: Living with health related anxiety

In this episode, I am joined by Alison Curtis, national broadcaster with Today FM here in Dublin, Ireland. Alison is Canadian but we consider her one of our own. She has a very interesting story about her experience of health related anxiety that stems back to events she remembers when she was just 7 years old. She very openly shares her struggles and how this anxiety has affected her throughout her life, losing both of her parents to illness and now as a mother to 9-year-old Joan, how she navigates her worries there. She's one of the kindest happiest people I know and proves to me that you don't have to be anxiety free to live a good life, as long as you can find ways to manage it. Which Alison has done. Thanks for supporting me if you already have by tipping the series so that it can keep going via my Patreon page, patreon.com/carolineforan and don't forget the books (OWNING IT and The Confidence Kit - OWN IT and You Got This if you are in the US/Canada) are widely available around the globe on Amazon or local retailers.Order yourself (or for a friend) a copy of my new book, Everything I Wish I'd Known About Anxiety: A Roadmap out of the Overwhelm and Back to Yourself here Follow me on Instagram @CarolineForan and @OwningItPodcast, on Tik Tok hereSubscribe to my weekly Substack here (not always anxiety related, often parenting related)Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/owningittheanxietypodcast. S4 Ep 6Owning It: The Science of Self Compassion for Reducing Anxiety with TED Talker DR Kristen Neff

For this episode I am joined by one of my heroes: Dr Kristin Neff. She is so ridiculously qualified there just isn't enough room in the podcast notes to fill you in on why she's the business but we do discuss her background at the beginning of this episode. Her main topic is self-compassion and when I first came across her TED Talk, it was an instant game changer for me. Here she talks me through the science of self-compassion, how to bring more of it into our life, what we get wrong about it, how it can benefit us and what exactly happens in the brain and body when we choose to take the self-compassionate route. It is my ultimate anxiety reducing tool these days and I hope, upon listening to this episode, that it's the same for you. S4 Ep 5Owning It: Angela Scanlon shares her anxiety story

On this series though, the topic of conversation is Angela's experience of anxiety and I just related to her story so much. The feeling of being at odds between how we present ourselves to the world and how we view ourselves privately, an incredibly common driver of anxiety. S4 Ep 7Owning It: Coping with anxiety surrounding a break-up

Something I have yet to really dive into is the anxiety surrounding a break up, which is something so many of us, if not all of us, will probably experience at some point in our lives. Maybe it's a split from your first love, or maybe, as is the case for my guest, journalist and author Liadan Hynes, it's a separation from your husband or partner with whom you share children or someone with whom you've built a life that you expected to see continue forever. It's a very tangible anxiety: that realisation that you need to remove yourself from the relationship, or maybe you're perfectly happy but then face the anxiety of learning that your partner wants out, and suddenly your whole life, stretching out in front of you looks different and terrifying. Here Lia, who has written an incredible book called How to Fall Apart shares her story, how she coped with the anxiety that went along with the various stages of this major life change and how she's doing now. I don't doubt that this will resonate with a lot of you and I hope you find it comforting. Just a note to say you'll have to forgive me for a slight dip in audio quality here, we were in the depths of lockdown when recording, I had builders drilling throughout the house and you might here Lia's little girl in the background at points too, who was being homeschooled, but such is the beauty of our vulnerable lives! Thanks as always for tuning in, thanks for supporting me on www.patreon.com/carolineforan. The monthly price of a cup of coffee makes such a difference and is massively appreciated. S4 Ep 6Owning It: Why your pituitary gland holds the key to unlocking your anxiety

Hello dear listener and welcome to this expert led episode of owning it the anxiety podcast with your host, author Caroline Foran. This time we are delving into our endocrine system. What role do our hormones play when it comes to anxiety? What's the job of our pituitary gland - what even is that - and why is this so important if we want to bring down our anxious symptoms? Long story short, your hormones are EVERYTHING. And we so often overlook them or are completely unaware of how powerful they can be. It's not all in your head, it's all in your hormones. Here internationally renowned endocrinologist Dr Mary Ryan helps us to better understand our hormones, the key players involved with anxiety in particular, and advises us on precisely what our pituitary gland needs in order to function well, which, of course, leads us to feeling less anxious. S4 Ep 8Owning It: Anxiety surrounding coming out with Riyadh Khalaf

At this point in the season, I want to explore anxiety in the gay community: particularly the anxiety surrounding coming out to family and friends, feeling 'othered' at school growing up gay. For this episode I am joined by Celebrity Masterchef winner 2020, LGBTQ+ activist, bestselling author and broadcaster Riyadh Khalaf who shares his experience with me from childhood right through to present times. We talk about the anxiety of feeling at odds with how you think you 'should' be. The fear of rejection. How he navigated telling his parents that he was gay - which was not the story of instant acceptance you'd hope for - and where he's at now with self-love and acceptance. He offers great insights and advice for anyone facing their own experience of coming out. I really loved having this chat with Riyadh and whether or not you as the listener are gay doesn't really matter, if you've ever felt a disconnect between how you feel inside and the person you put out to the world, this conversation will resonate with you. Thanks as always for supporting Owning It on Patreon or via the new Acast support feature.Buy Riyadh's book here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Yay-Youre-Gay-Now-What/dp/1786031914Order yourself (or for a friend) a copy of my new book, Everything I Wish I'd Known About Anxiety: A Roadmap out of the Overwhelm and Back to Yourself here Follow me on Instagram @CarolineForan and @OwningItPodcast, on Tik Tok hereSubscribe to my weekly Substack here (not always anxiety related, often parenting related)Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/owningittheanxietypodcast. S4 Ep 4Owning It: What you probably didn't know about exercise for anxiety with Dr Kelly McGonigal

For this episode I am so excited to be joined by a guest that i have so long wanted to feature on this series. Her name is Dr Kelly McGonigal. Her Ted Talk has inspired so much of what I do and has informed so much of my mentality and approach towards managing anxiety. In this episode we talk about exercise for anxiety and let me tell you, having recently published a new book about the neuroscience of exercise called The Joy of Movement, her insights are mind blowing. I did not realise half of this stuff. I'm pretty sure I say 'wow' after every answer to every question! Then we talk about compassion too and I don't doubt that if you're enjoying the series so far, you will love this episode. Thanks to those of you supporting the podcast either on patreon.com/carolineforan or via the acast support app and thanks for tuning in.Order yourself (or for a friend) a copy of my new book, Everything I Wish I'd Known About Anxiety: A Roadmap out of the Overwhelm and Back to Yourself here Follow me on Instagram @CarolineForan and @OwningItPodcast, on Tik Tok hereSubscribe to my weekly Substack here (not always anxiety related, often parenting related)Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/owningittheanxietypodcast. S4 Ep 3Owning It: Deliciously Ella shares her anxiety story

I was so excited to get some time with Ella Mills of Deliciously Ella fame to chat about anxiety. We spoke over ZOOM as with most of season, it was recorded during lockdown when social distancing was key so unfortunately it'll never be as good quality as it would have been in studio. Ella is incredibly open in sharing her story of how her career came to be and how, when faced with all of this success, she began to experience crippling anxiety. She is a champion of owning one's vulnerability which you know is what I see as our superpower and she has come a long way in learning to embrace the anxiety that comes with her life and has reduced it massively with a compassionate approach as well as her love of yoga. I hope you enjoy hearing her story. S4 Ep 2Owning It: Emotional Distress Vs Mental Illness with Dr Harry Barry

For this expert led episode my guest is Dr Harry Barry. He has written ten books to help us manage our mental health and his latest is called Emotional Healing and it's widely available now. We have a really enlightening conversation about the difference between mental illness and emotional distress, the latter of which is what most of us are actually dealing with. Understanding the nature of emotional distress is so important and takes an awful lot of the fear away from anxiety. We also go into great detail on panic attacks and phobias, the three distinct types of anxiety we might experience and how they happen in the body as well as how we can intervene and get ourselves back to feeling at ease. Again, if I had listened to something like this a number of years ago, it would have made an enormously positive difference to me. I hope it does for you. Please support Owning It by tipping the series with the price of a coffee over on patreon.com/carolineforan or get hold of one of my two books - soon to be three: Owning It, The Confidence Kit or preorder NAKED: 10 Truths to Change Your Life.Order yourself (or for a friend) a copy of my new book, Everything I Wish I'd Known About Anxiety: A Roadmap out of the Overwhelm and Back to Yourself here Follow me on Instagram @CarolineForan and @OwningItPodcast, on Tik Tok hereSubscribe to my weekly Substack here (not always anxiety related, often parenting related)Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/owningittheanxietypodcast. S4 Ep 1Owning It: Brian Pennie's incredible story of overcoming anxiety

To kick off this new series, of which there will be 15 episodes that mix world class experts on anxiety in with everyday people's anxiety stories, I am joined by the incredible Brian Pennie. I don't need to give him much of an intro because his story of overcoming adversity speaks for itself. Brian is a recovered addict, he's the author of the phenomenal memoir Bonus Time and he's now undertaking a PHD, spending his time educating people on psychology and neuroscience. At the root of all of what Brian has been through, you'll find anxiety. I don't doubt that his story will resonate, he has a wonderfully realistic relationship with anxiety these days and he also has some wonderful resources available to others via his website brianpennie.com. Enjoy and welcome back. Any support of this series and my work is greatly appreciated, either by buying the books, sharing the podcast or financially supporting it either here via the 'support' option or over on patreon: patreon.com/carolineforan.Order yourself (or for a friend) a copy of my new book, Everything I Wish I'd Known About Anxiety: A Roadmap out of the Overwhelm and Back to Yourself here Follow me on Instagram @CarolineForan and @OwningItPodcast, on Tik Tok hereSubscribe to my weekly Substack here (not always anxiety related, often parenting related)Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/owningittheanxietypodcast. S3 Ep 10Owning It: How to manage anxiety as we come out of lockdown

This is the last episode of season 3 before season 4 launches in just a few short weeks. The topic? Just as we had to adapt into lockdown and deal with all of the anxiety that brought fore, so too will it take a little bit of time to adapt back to whatever our new normal will be. There might be some social anxiety, our bodies have been conditioned to be hyper vigilant to protect us from the virus so it could feel unnerving to be back in close proximity to others and in general we've all gotten used to living a much smaller life. Here's exactly what to be mindful of as you get back to normal. Plus 12 questions to always ask yourself whenever you feel panicky or anxious. S3 Ep 9Owning It: The power of decision making for anxiety

For this episode of Owning It I introduce a skill that has massively helped my day to day anxiety, especially as I approach anxiety-inducing life events where my amygdala wants to say 'no!' and run for the hills but my prefrontal cortex knows that maybe, this is something I should do, maybe it would be good for me. It's something I wanted to talk about now as we start to emerge from lockdown and life gets back to normal and we'll be spending less time at home and have more chance of confronting the anxiety of decisions to be made. Indecision breeds fear, making a decision quells it. Thank you for listening and supporting. Please tip the series at patreon.com/carolineforan. S3 Ep 8Owning It: The Books That Helped My Anxiety + Ujjayi Breathing Exercise

In another of my shorter solo episodes that make up season 3, I wanted to talk through some of the books that had the biggest impact on me when it came to my own management and understanding of anxiety, as well as changing my perspective on it and allowing me to get to a place where the idea of owning it was possible. Also within this episode I offer a simple breathing exercise utilising the Ujjayi breathing technique that is my absolute favourite when I need instant calmness in my body. S3 Ep 7Owning It: Step by step guide to regaining control in an anxious wave

In this solo episode, I talk through exactly what I do when I feel anxiety rising, which happened again just last week. I talk you through my practise of taking pen to paper, exactly what kind of questions I ask myself and how I put myself back in the driving seat which helps to ease the anxiety massively. The most important thing? Employing the Assess and Address technique and asking yourself 'what vulnerability factors are at play here?' I hope you find this episode helpful. S3 Ep 63 Practical Ways To Manage Working From Home Anxiety During Lockdown

In this solo episode, the 6th of this season which is more geared towards helping us cope better during Covid-19, I take a look at some recent research that has emerged about how we are getting on working from home. Unfortunately, there is a huge increase in anxiety for several reasons, and that's understandable and okay but there are things we can do to put us back in the driving seat which will positively impact your symptoms of anxiety. Couple these with the mindset approaches we've been working on throughout this series and you will notice an improvement as your are shifting your focus towards what you can control and away from dwelling on that which you can't.Please tip the series over on Patreon if you are finding it helpful; it makes such a massive difference and allows me to keep sharing this content for free. www.patreon.com/CarolineForan and if you'd like to buy Owning It or The Confidence Kit (my two books on which this series is based) you will find them easily on Amazon or most online retailers. In this solo episode, alongside a therapeutic breathing exercise to help relax the mind and body as you listen, I offer 8 common misconceptions we can have about anxiety that serve only to enhance the anxiety itself. S3 Ep 4Owning It: What is Comfortable Neutrality and why is it important for anxiety?

Another solo episode as part of season 3. This time I am introducing you to the concept of Comfortable Neutrality which is essential for increasing confidence and an incredibly helpful tool for down-regulating our anxiety response. It is an idea put forward in my second book The Confidence Kit (which is out now in the US/Canada but called 'You Got This') and once you wrap your head around it you can start to practise it daily. Hi guys, in this second episode of season 3 I am drilling down into some of the content explored in my second book, The Confidence Kit. I am looking at the comfort zone model and the importance of what's called a stretch zone experience when it comes to owning our anxiety and building our confidence. I talk through the ideal scenario so that we are not feeling excessive anxiety at any point but are not so stuck in our comfort zones that we are not growing our challenging our anxiety so as to ensure it doesn't own us.Support the podcast on patreon here. Hello dear listener and welcome back to season 3 of Owning It The Anxiety Podcast. I am back a little sooner than planned with slightly different episodes than planned and for that we can blame the pandemic, hurrah! I know anxiety is at an all time high right now so I want to be there for people who need reassurance via the podcast. For season 3 it will be just me releasing weekly short episodes that will offer a coping mechanism, a how-to or something useful that I hope will help you to feel more at ease not just during the pandemic but outside of it too. These are anxiety management skills that have turned my life around and often they are very simple. For this episode I am joined by fellow journalist and podcaster Aisling Keenan (her podcast is Private Education which is all about sex and relationships, she has a live event happening in Dublin soon and tickets are available here). Aisling is a very open person but something she's never discussed openly is her experience of OCD with which she was recently diagnosed. I wanted to understand more about this condition as it's so wrapped up in misinformation and it's so often trivialised. S2 Ep 16Owning It: 'Will I always feel this way?' I answer all of your anxiety Qs

In this episode I have taken the opportunity to answer as many questions as I can fit into one listening. I cover everything from where I'm at with medication, whether or not going vegan can help with anxiety (can't say that it does unless your anxiety is related to eating meat), how I cope with the fear of the fear, what I do for the physical symptoms of anxiety and much more. S2 Ep 15Owning It: Stopping Social Comparison Induced Anxiety

This week it's just me for a brief solo episode to hone in on some of the less obvious drivers of anxiety. I'm focusing particularly on social comparison here and in future episodes will look at imposter syndrome, perfectionism, people pleasing and the likes, all of which can enhance our levels of anxiety without us really being aware. S2 Ep 10OWNING IT: People pleasing and how to say no with author Sarah Knight

People pleasing is a big driver of anxiety. For this episode of Owning It I am thrilled to be joined by New York Times Bestselling author Sarah Knight. She wrote the Lifechanging Magic of Not Giving A Fuck and has gone on to write a whole series of No Fucks Given Guides, the latest of which is Fuck No: How To Stop Saying Yes When You Can't, You Shouldn't Or You Just Don't Want To. Sarah shares her own inspiring story of anxiety with me, how life has changed since her days as a book editor in Manhattan (she now lives in the Dominican Republic) and how she's learned the art of suiting herself and ultimately benefitting her wellbeing and her anxiety. Fuck No is available in the UK and Ireland from December 12th, 2019. Buy her books here. Subscribe to my patreon here - it would mean the world!
