S2 Ep 26Anthony de Haas (A. Lange & Söhne) on new releases, steel sports watches and rumours

If you think that explaining the finer engineering points of a rattrapante or a repeater sounds snore-inducing, you've never heard Anthony de Haas speak. The Director of Product Development for A. Lange & Söhne describes the watches he works on with passion — and more importantly — humour. We talk about the latest Watches & Wonders releases, including the new Lange 1 Perpetual Calendar and the mighty Triple Split. We also talk about the momentous Odysseus, some rumours about application-only watches, and why the brand will never release a salmon dial. This episode is brought to you by WatchBox, the world's leading platform for buying, selling and trading pre-owned luxury timepieces. Head to thewatchbox.com to look for your next watch. S2 Ep 25Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet new releases, plus Tim Mosso and Black Panther

The watches and wonders are flowing thick and fast, and in this episode, Felix and Andy deep their toes into the latest watches from Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet. But before a surprisingly hot-take-filled recap, Felix has a little interlude with Tim Mosso from WatchBox. Tim and Felix talk superheroes (I mean, has anyone seen Tim and Batman in the same room?) when Tim and Felix pick watches for Marvel and DC's finest. Ever wondered what Wonder Woman would wear? Regular programming continues with new watch chat and Andy revealing why he wouldn't cop a steel Nautilus at retail. Further surprises ensue when Felix goes into bat for the Code 11:59. And they both agree that while Audemars Piguet missed some major opportunities to make their debut Marvel watch (feat. Black Panther) great, watch nerds need to settle a little and remember that it's not all about them. This episode is brought to you by WatchBox, the world's leading platform for buying, selling and trading pre-owned luxury timepieces. Have you ever wondered what sort of watch Batman, Superman, Wolverine, Iron Man and Wonder Woman would wear? Well, wonder no more as Felix and Tim Mosso pick some super watches for these classic comic heroes. Head to thewatchbox.com to look for your next watch. S2 Ep 21March news wrap – New Omega, the history of G-Shock, Patek archive drama and more...

Watches & Wonders is just around the corner, and that means new releases by the bucketload. So we've put our guest schedule on hold to give these new watches the time they deserve. The headline act is Omega, with a rock-solid lineup including a brand new alloy called Bronze Gold, Seamaster Diver 300M Black Black (no prizes for guessing the primary colour here) and a dressy De Ville. Over in the UK, Bremont have been busy making F1 deals, building wings and — you guessed it — releasing watches. Speaking of the F1, we chat about TAG Heuer's new releases, along with Glashütte Original and others. But we've saved the biggest shock of the episode till last, with Patek Philippe making a genuinely shocking administrative change. All that, plus the history of the Casio G-Shock. S2 Ep 20Eric Wind (Wind Vintage) - on buying, selling and placing a Rolex 'Paul Newman' Daytona in Crazy Rich Asians

In the crowded and competitive vintage watch dealing scene Eric Wind stands out. Not only is he as erudite as he is polite, but the watches he collects and trades run the gamut from exceptional to exceptionally interesting. We chat to Eric about his start in the world of watches, his business, Wind Vintage and get some tips on navigating the minefield that is buying watches online. We hear tales from the dealer's side of the table and why Eric thinks it's so important to build a relationship with one dealer. We also dig into the pros and cons of case versus dial, the value to be had in 90s Rolex, and why insisting on a full set is a rookie move. S2 Ep 19John Reardon (Collectability) part 2 – beyond the Nautilus to what makes Patek Philippe special

A few weeks ago, we spoke to Patek Philippe expert (Patexpert?) John Reardon about the discontinuation of the Nautilus 5711 and what it means for Patek mania. This week we're delighted to bring you part two of our chat with John, where we talk about all the other things Patek Philippe makes besides steel sports watches. From solar clocks to pocket watches and singing birds, we go deep. There's even a live minute repeater demonstration. We find out what John thinks the next hot watch will be (hint, it's not Beta 21), what watches he's hunting down and why he thinks watches are set to overtake fine art as an auction house category in the next few years. S2 Ep 16Eric Ku on vintage Cartier, gem-set Rolex and the dark arts of laser welding

Early on in our conversation with watch collecting supremo Eric Ku, he says that the best careers are born out of passion. For Ku that career started in college and the early days of the internet. It's led him around the world, hunting out the finest fresh to market vintage watches, a type of 'Indiana Jones' watch collecting that is becoming increasingly rare and difficult these days. While we're talking about legends — we ask Eric for his take on the rarest, or at least the most exciting vintage Rolex around, as well as the changing nature of watch auctions. We also talk about the enduring appeal of Cartier and the allure of the Crash as a design object with its own mythology. Ku also talks about LA Watch Works, and the work involved in restoring a watch properly, and knowing when restoration or refinishing is the right choice. But it's not all vintage — we talk about the fine line watch brands walk when releasing historically inspired watches and why brands like IWC are doing it right. This week's week's episode is brought to you by Australian retailer Kennedy. We chat about their online boutique, why e-commerce is the future of watch retail, and learn about the IWC Pilot's Watch Chronograph Edition 'Tribute to 3705' available exclusively online. S2 Ep 15Cara Barrett (Hodinkee) on changing understandings of women's watches, and what it's like to make a limited edition watch

A few weeks ago, today's guest set the internet ablaze with her considered and articulate column on women's watches. Cara Barrett has been part of the Hodinkee team since 2015, and her perspective on everything from Patek Philippe to pop culture is both considered and insightful. Today we chat to Cara about her column, the feedback from it and what she would like to see change in the world of women's watches. We also talk about what it's like to work at Hodinkee as the business scales up, as well as the specifics of her role, creating limited editions and collaborative pieces. Unfortunately, she's too good at her job and managed not to tell us anything about Hodinkee's upcoming limited editions, but still, this long interview with Cara is practically required listening. In addition to some legal drama involving Rolex in Chicago, Andy and Felix chat about the latest from Seiko and Grand Seiko, a Breitling with a local connection and another sell-out Hodinkee collab, this time with TAG Heuer. S2 Ep 13Andy and Felix - what we wish we knew 10 years ago

Regrets. We have a few. This week Felix and Andy jump in the way back machine and take a trip to the year 2011, back when Charlie Sheen's watches were topical and the Daytona got its first ceramic bezel. It was also a time when watch collecting was seemingly simpler and when Felix wishes he'd eased up on the Instagram filters. Andy also got proactive and put a poll up on the 'gram and asked what people wished they knew 10 years ago — and alongside all the inevitable 'buy steel Rolex' responses, we got some really sensible and practical advice, such as "a watch can look great, but not wear great" and "it's worth waiting for what you want". In addition to all the advise, it's interesting to look back only a few years and see how much has changed in the watch collecting space. Dive back in time, you won't regret it. S2 Ep 12John Reardon (Collectability) Part 1 what happens now the Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711 has been discontinued

John Reardon has spent the last two decades surrounded by Patek Philippe; either in his roles at major auction houses or when he worked for the company in New York. So when news of the discontinuation of the famous (and impossible to acquire) Nautilus 5711 surfaced in the days before our interview, we knew we had to ask John about it. And, as you might expect from one of the world's leading Patek experts, he had some thoughts, particularly about the skyrocketing prices we're seeing at the moment: "I think we're going to look back at this as a market blip. The fact that that we're seeing them for over $100K US, I find — as an historian — almost laughable." To find out why Reardon thinks the hype is nonsensical, we get some context on the model, and just what a 'discontinuation' means for Patek Philippe. Essential listening. S2 Ep 10Watch Matchmaker - We pick 6 great chronographs under 10K for Adam

Adam needs a new watch. He's thinking of a Speedmaster, but he wants some more options. Which is where Watch Matchmaker comes to help. Adam sent us an email, and we fired up the search engines, converted our currencies and came up with six chronographs, both wild and wonderful. From obscure Omega's to dressy salmon dials and a hot new heritage reissue, there's plenty of options, all of them good. The only question — which one will Adam go for? I recently turned 30, and settled on the sapphire crystal with display back model. However, then your podcast came along, and now I'm not so sure. Thanks for that. I want an everyday watch, that I can beat around in. A chronograph or dive watch I think. I like a watch with history or story behind it. I've already turned 30, so I don't want to wait much longer. S2 Ep 11Ted Gushue (TYPE 7) on car photography watch collecting and his passion for Japanese culture

"Shaving truffle is like flying private: if you're the one filming, you ain't the one paying." Just one of the pearls of wisdom today's guest, Ted Gushue, drops on the regular. There are a few reasons we've wanted Ted on the pod for a while, and his wit is just a part of it. Ted leads a fascinating life. Something of a nomad, the editor-in-chief of Porsche's Type 7 publication and the all-round automotive enthusiast is currently passed in St Moritz, as their global ambassador no less. We speak to Ted about the joy of creating legacy content in a disposable age, the love/hate relationship he has with staying in one place, why he'd rather have a handful of great watches he truly loves and why he's getting on a plane to Japan as soon as can. S2 Ep 9Julien Tornare (CEO, ZENITH watches) explains the new Chronomaster sport

Zenith has come out of the gate early to claim the 'most talked-about watch release of 2021' title, with their appropriately sporty (and quite controversial) Chronomaster Sport. In order to get the official word on the origins, inspirations and authenticity of the model, we went right to the top; Zenith CEO Julien Tornare. Days after the release of the watch Felix jumped on a Zoom call with Julian and found out the historical inspirations for the watch, why it matters so much for the brand from a commercial perspective, and how they prepared for the inevitable Daytona comparisons. S2 Ep 8Jeremy Kirkland (Blamo!) on finding your personal style, matching watches to fits and going viral with #SeikoBois

If you're even remotely interested in the world of men's style and podcasts, the chances are good that you've come across Blamo! Well, today's guest is the affable and humble man behind this burgeoning empire — Jeremy Kirkland. And while we cover off all the topics you'd expect; style, fashion, trends and all the rest, what Jeremy is really talking about is what it means to try and be a nice person in an often superficial business, why chasing cool is a fallacy that will leave you empty and why style is how you treat other people. In between these deep truths, we also talk about dad style, the skill involved with a good cold email and why Seiko is the ultimate equaliser. On top of that, Felix and Andy have some thoughts about the Zenith Chronomaster Sport, and its relationship to the Rolex Daytona. This episode is brought to you by Longines. He's famous for having a garage full of supercars, but today we talk about his passion for watches (he was sketching them as a kid long before he set foot in a boutique). These days he's got a diverse collection, from the standout white ceramic Girard-Perregaux X Bamford Laureato to an incredible Laurent Ferrier Grand Sport and more. We caught up with Tom for a frank chat about his work, what makes a good influencer and the reality of being a flipper, and just what he did to p*ss off Ferrari. S2 Ep 6Producer Michael on his wild watch collection, YouTube fame and having fun!

If you've browsed watches on the internet, you'll likely have come across Michael Blakey. Better known as Producer Michael thanks to his YouTube channel with over one million subscribers, Michael's videos offer a glimpse into a world of luxury, from watches to supercars to mansions. And while this sort of content is pretty common on YouTube, what makes Producer Michael stand out is his honesty and a genuine desire to have fun. You might think it's hard to be humble talking about your watch worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, but Michael manages it. Of course, we talk about his collection, but we also talk about his career as a producer, his very first watches, the importance of matching your outfit to your watch and why he refuses to buy his grail watch. S2 Ep 5Rikki (Scottish Watches) on creating a Swatch Watch and why community is king!

Welcome Welcome Welcome, today's podcast guest is none other than Rikki from Scottish Watches podcast. If you're into watches and listen to podcasts, the chances are excellent that you're already familiar with Rikki and the Caledonian podcast he co-founded. Scottish Watches are something of an unstoppable force in the watch-podcasting world, having recently celebrated their second anniversary and a whopping 200 episodes. But Rikki isn't on just to toot his own horn; he's here to chat about the podcast's outstanding collaboration with Swatch. Which, as far as first-time collabs go, is pretty much the top of the tree. But this isn't your typical case of watch media cashing in on a short-run production, because they didn't make any money off it. Rather they used it as an opportunity to put something joyful out into the world, and to keep it as accessible as possible. And of course, we also talk about watches in Scotland and the start of the Scottish Watches empire, and the best guest they've had to date, and no, it's not Archie Luxury. S2 Ep 4Austen Chu (Horoloupe) on creating a LE Audemars Piguet Royal Oak that ended up on Kevin Hart's wrist.

Instagram is a platform saturated with watch accounts. One account that excels, both in the watches and the quality of the content is Horoloupe. We were honoured to chat to Austen Chu, the man behind the username, a little while ago about all manner of things. From how Chu got started, to what it's like to be a younger collector, and how a new generation has new tastes. Of course, our conversation is dominated by his first love, Audemars Piguet. And how in 2018 he collaborated with the brand to create the stunning titanium Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar China Limited Edition, only to later find out that it had made its way onto the wrist of superstar collector Kevin Hart. And speaking of China, Chu provides us with some insights into the evolving Chinese watch market, it's relationship to the West and just why the story about all the Daytonas going to China is the biggest lie on earth. Trust us; you don't want to miss this one. This episode is brought to you by Longines. S2 Ep 3Shawn Stockman (Boyz II Men) shares how MC Hammer got him into watches, and why he loves Casio.

Our guest today is one of the music industries all-time greats. Shawn Stockman is one of the founders of the chart-topping, multiple Grammy-winning, genre-defining powerhouse that is Boyz II Men. He's also, as we found out, pretty serious about watches. We caught up with Shawn minutes after he came 'offstage' from a virtual concert, and we quickly dived into his lifelong love of watches. From the Tigger watch he learned to tell the time on, through to Casio's unbeatable cool and how he fell in love with Rolex and bling. He tells us how he bought his first Rolex off a bus driver, later giving it to his father, who then pulled a peak dad-move with it. While many music stars might stay with the bling, Stockman's tastes have matured, as he's (mostly) of over the whole diamonds and R&B cliché. These days he's much more likely to be wearing a Speedy, a vintage Rolex or even a Grand Seiko, even though he has one problem with the Japanese brand. This episode is brought to you by Longines. S2 Ep 2Origin story – Andy and Felix on how they met, and what they love about watches.

We're doing things a little differently today. Sixty eps in and one season down, we've got a lot of new listeners. So we thought some formal introductions were in order. Andy and Felix turn the mics and interrogation-style spotlights on each other and delve into our own origin stories, how they met, and what we think of watches. Felix interviews Andy, and Andy interviews Felix. And they ask the tough questions. Why does Felix hate Rolex? Does Andy have a grail? What was the first story Andy ever wrote, and how do they keep the horological passions alive? All this and more, revealed. S2 Ep 1Adam Craniotes (RedBar Group) on building watch communities, brand collabs and social media!

We're kicking off 2021, and season two of OT: The Podcast, with one of the watch scene's biggest personalities. Adam Craniotes is the loveable larrikin founder of RedBar and Editor-at-Large for Revolution USA. We talk to Adam about how RedBar was set up with an aim to democratise the somewhat stuffy social world of the watch collector, and how the collector world has changed over time (for the better). We find out why Adam thinks it's important to be political on social media. We also get the low down on how he creates limited edition watches with the likes of Oris and Frederique Constant. We also find out how he started a one-man social media campaign to pressure Omega into delivering his Speedmaster Snoopy (not something we suggest you try at home) and the tale of money laundering, mohawks and his mum that led to his 'trademark' IWC Top Gun Perpetual Calendar. S1 Ep 58Wrapping 2020 on a high - Andy and Felix look back on the year that was!

In news that will surprise absolutely no one, 2020 has been a heck of a year. But rather than focus on the negative, we've decided to accentuate the positive, and look back on 57 episodes of OT: The podcast and highlight some (but not all) great guests, even greater supporters (MVP Steve!) and even the odd challenge — Iceland, we're looking at you. And while we initially planned for this to be an easy-breezy 30 minutes of podcasting, Andy and I got a little carried away reliving the good times, something we'd fully encourage you to do too. Scroll on, and you can find links to all the episodes we've mentioned, and maybe some you missed. We've got some great things planned for Season 2, and you can always help out by sharing our content, telling your mates (especially if they live in Iceland), and generally hyping us up. And as always, get in touch if there's anything you'd like to see more of in 2021. This episode is made possible by our sponsor, eBay. S1 Ep 57J. David Weiss (superyacht designer) – on his wildest requests, why mega-yachts cost so much and his love of watches

Today's guest, J. David Weiss, describes his job as 'designing silly boats for silly people' which, if we're completely honest is a little bit of an understatement. The truth is that Weiss is one of the world's leading designers of superyachts. So, to make the most of the opportunity, Felix and Andy decided to commission their own modest superyacht, the OT: Cruiser. And while they spent the modest $30M budget, they learned some valuable tips on the finer points of yacht design. Ideal sizes, why Italy is your best choice for a shipyard, what makes helipads so tricky and some of there out there options they could go for (motorbike Pez dispenser anyone?). Of course, Weiss has a nice watch or two, but as far as great origin stories go, it's hard to top the Rolex he pulled out of a rubbish bin. And then there's the bit where Felix and Andy pretend to be Australian film reviewers. This episode is made possible by our sponsor, eBay. S1 Ep 56Kris Kringle watch matchmaker with Adrian Barker (Bark and Jack), Jenni Elle, Kat and Katlen (Tenn and Two).

'Twas the week before Christmas, and we thought we'd take the opportunity to put a festive twist on our classic watch matchmaking, Kris Kringle styles. Ho to the Ho Ho people. But, we're not doing it alone. We've enlisted some of our favourite internet watch friends, Adrian Barker from Bark & Jack, Jenni Elle and Kat and Katlen from Tenn & Two. And while you might expect this to quickly devolve into chaos (much like any Christmas gathering), Andy, in his festive-est hat, has tried to impose some simple rules. They are as follows. Names are drawn randomly out of a hat, and two hypothetically gifted watches released in 2020 selected. One with a $5K USD budget, and an end game option with a $50K USD budget. What could go possibly go wrong? Well, listen in and find out. But you know what, we all had fun along the way. It's a Christmas miracle guys! This episode is made possible by our sponsor, eBay. Fashion is fleeting, but style is eternal. That's something Jamie Kerr Ferguson understands well. Wei Koh, founder of pioneering watch title Revolution and style bible The Rake, cuts a large and legendary figure. And while he's known for his style and deep knowledge of watches, the heart of Koh's charm lies in his self-awareness and affability. These traits come through strong in this interview, where we cover off how the self-described 'idiot' came to build some of the most respected magazines in the world, and what he's learned from Ralph Lauren. We also chat to Koh about his take on social media, from why accounts like @shameonwrist and @hodonkee are important, and why he thinks it matters to be real on the 'Gram. S1 Ep 53Cadel Evans on Watch Collecting and Winning the Tour de France!

Cadel Evans is the greatest Australian cyclist of all time, a four-time Olympian and Tour de France winner, who is a passionate ambassador for the sport. He's also a watch collector. Cadel Evan's interest in watches started at a young age when he 'just wanted a watch that was waterproof'. That interest exploded when, as a professional cyclist, he found himself based in Neuchâtel. But Evans wasn't spending his time looking in boutique windows; he was busy riding up and down hills and training for the Tour de France, a race he won in 2011, the first Australian, and one of only three non-Europeans to earn the yellow jersey. To celebrate this win, Jean-Claude Biver gifted him a unique yellow Hublot, a watch which has a place of pride in his collection, sitting alongside Patek Phillipe, Panerai and more than a few Rolex models. We talk to Evans about why time is more important than distance in training, his take on the 2020 Tour de France, and what he thinks about wearing Richard Mille while racing. Regardless of whether or not you're into cycling, you're into a for a ride in our chat with Cadel Evans. This episode is made possible by our sponsor, eBay. By his own reckoning, Tim Mosso has reviewed some 6 or 7000 watches, many of them on Watchbox's YouTube channel. The combination of experience, deep product knowledge and a comprehensive understanding of how watches are made, bought and sold makes Tim Mosso someone to listen to, especially if you're looking to buy a watch. We find out just how Tim goes about reviewing a watch, even if it's not one he personally likes (spoiler, it's either like a sailor or a lawyer). We also get Tim's take on what he thinks makes a bad (or a good) watch, the most overlooked element of watch design (lugs!), what's trending, and which brands are milking those trends too much. We also talk about why watches leaning heavily into nostalgia need to pay attention to car design, and if the hype is ever justified. This interview is a little longer than usual, but it's all thriller no filler. This episode is brought to you by Gucci, and this episode we talk about the Gucci Grip. S1 Ep 51Dan Tanenbaum (@WatchPartsMotorCycle) on buying a vintage Rolex with gold bullion and making art for Chief Keef.

Dan Tanenbaum, better known on Instagram as @watchpartsmotorcycle is a man who defies easy definition, but we'll do out gosh-darned best. He's a lifelong collector who fell into watches and turned that passion into an art form. We chat to Dan about how a quest to find his son a Rolex Submariner 6538, which he ended up purchasing, not with cash or card, but with actual gold bullion. That's not the only special piece in Dan's collection; there's also a very sentimental Heuer Montreal. From watches, we cover off how the tech entrepreneur and ex ad-man turned a side hustle making motorbike sculptures out of watch parts turned into creating custom work for Kidrobot and Chief Keef. Your father has asked me to write you a note to tell you what I know about your gift from him. As you can see it is an old watch. My guess is that by the time you receive it, it will be about 70 years old and you are very fortunate as this is no ordinary watch. Indeed it is a very special watch. You are holding a rare vintage Rolex model 6538 from circa 1958. It has a calibre 1030 movement in it. This watch is much sought after as it is the same model of watch as the one worn by Sean Connery when he portrayed James Bond in the 1962 film Dr No. It is my understanding that the watch is in original condition and was owned prior to myself by a gentleman who lived in Australia. It is obvious that he wore this watch for countless hours in the sun perhaps scuba diving or sailing because the dial on it shows a deep rich bronze patina. I have myself owned the watch for many years, saving it for something special though I had no idea what. Recently word came to me that your father was looking for a watch such as this and it turned out that he had a special purpose in mind for it; that it should become a gift for you on your 21st birthday. And since I believe a watch like this needs purpose and deserves more than a solitary existence spoiled away in some dark locked box, I released it to your father. Albeit for a fairly tidy sum. Once, a good many years ago while holding this watch and contemplating its lessons I was struck by five thoughts. I'd like to share them with you with the hope that they might help you on your journey. The first thought I had was of the beauty and art and emotion expressed by it. These are all the things that give our world life and colour and love. It is a reminder that we should paint the world as we go, returning the love that we're given and sharing the love that we have to give. The second thought I had was for the marvel of engineering and human perseverance that made this watch possible. Boundless are the limitations of human mind and determined spirit combined. This watch should serve as a reminder that we must be the engineers of our lives, doing what is right in life and persevering to leave all things better than when we first came upon them. The third thought that I had as I held this watch was of its value and the power of saving and investing. Surely without saving there is no future nor any prospect of security for yourself or your loved ones. Nor is there the ability to help the man who has stumbled that he too might go on to help others. This watch should serve as a reminder that wealth with conscience is a powerful gift. Fourth, I thought that this watch represents the importance of practicality and purpose in our lives. There is an old saying that goes "If you wish to travel far and fast, travel light". The same holds true in life. This watch should be a reminder to remain free of the burden of things that serve no good purpose, things rob us of our happiness, our dignity and our time. Which brings us to the fifth and final thought that I had

S1 Ep 50Mark Cho (The Armoury/Drake's) on style, F.P. Journe, anOrdain, and the perfect watch size.

In the hallowed (and impeccably dressed) halls of men's style, Mark Cho is a legend. Co-founder of influential retailer The Armoury and co-owner of menswear institution Drake's. Cho has undoubtedly made his mark on modern men's style. And given Cho's general sartorial good sense it should come as no surprise that he views a good watch is an essential wardrobe item, with pieces as diverse as F.P. Journe and anOrdain. He's also a man concerned with what size a watch should be — so much so that he put together a survey to determine the ideal wrist size. The results are surprising … but perhaps they shouldn't be. S1 Ep 49Charley Boorman (Long Way Up) epic motorcycle adventures across the world with Ewan McGregor

He's been round the world, and down the world and now he's come back up again. We are, of course, talking about today's guest, Charley Boorman. Since 2004 Boorman and his buddy Ewan McGregor have made a habit of travelling the globe on the back of a motorbike. Their latest, Long Way Up, which sees them ride from the tip of South America to Los Angeles is their most ambitious yet — not because of the journey itself, but because they're doing it on electric Harley Davidsons. We talk to Charley about the challenges of finding a charge, riding while recovering from serious surgery, and what it's like to be one of Bremont's longest-serving ambassadors. S1 Ep 48Chase Fancher (Oak and Oscar) on how to start your own watch brand!

There's a good chance that if you're really deep into watches you've fantasised about designing your own watch or even your own watch brand. Five years ago our guest Chase Fancher turned that dream into a reality when he gave up his unfulfilling corporate day job and started Oak and Oscar, a brand born out of Chase's love of watches, bourbon and dogs. Chase takes us through the journey of creating a brand, making the leap to full-time, the joys and challenges of building a brand and a passionate community, and what a good, sustainable smaller watch brand looks like. We hear about the new Olmsted Matte also ask Chase the hard questions, like what it would take for him to give it all up. Listen now, before Disney's lawsuit comes into effect. S1 Ep 47Matt Farah (The Smoking Tire) veteran automotive journalist, podcaster, car storer and collector.

If you're into cars and watch YouTube, you likely know Matt Farah. The LA-native is a legendary figure in the world of cars, an encyclopedia of knowledge with a disarmingly charming personality. It's this combination that has made The Smoking Tire one of the greatest car podcasts out there. We talk to Farah about what it's like to go from a lean online business to a bricks-and-mortar operation, with an impressive new business, West Side Collector Car Storage. And of course, we also talk watches; from the secret shame of buying a watch because of Kanye West, what it's like to daily wear a Kermit for a decade, and why you can't be an a-hole wearing a gold Seiko. S1 Ep 46Watch Matchmaking – Gold divers and steel sports, plus Andy explains his candy pink Rolex!

Today's episode is action-packed! We hit the mics for a one-two combo of good old-fashioned watch matchmaking. But before we get to Juuso and Louis, the people of the internet ask Andy the tough questions over his latest acquisition, the 36mm candy pink Rolex Oyster Perpetual. He fearlessly answers every one, and by the end of it, we can guarantee you will have sold all your 40mm+ black-dialled divers and falling in love with petite fun watches. Eventually, though the questions die down and we dive into our watch matchmaking. Juuso is in a very 2020 predicament. He had his name down for the 39mm white-dialled Rolex OP, and then Rolex discontinued it. He wants an alternative. And Louis, well he has a different problem entirely. He's an American entrepreneur looking for a watch to tide him over until his rose gold AP comes in. Louis is also after a watch he can pass down to his kid. Buckle up people, it's about to get wild (and watchy) up in here. This episode is brought to you by Longines, who launched the outstanding Spirit collection earlier this year. S1 Ep 45Bret Curry on taking the perfect wristshot for Hodinkee Mag and photographing Megan Fox!

Today's guest is cinematographer and photographer, Bret Curry. Bret knows his way around a watch, both on the wrist and behind the lens. Curry has worked with names like Eli Roth and Ryan White, on projects for National Geographic, AMC and Apple TV. We talk to Bret about his early wristwatch loves, and how, as someone who needs to keep an eye on the time and often has his hands full at work, a good watch is more than just a fashion accessory. We also asked Bret to break down the details of an incredible shoot he did for Blancpain at Death Valley. Beyond watches, we get some insights into shooting portraits of famous people, and honing your skills and aesthetic in an Instagram age. Cameron Barr, the founder and CEO of Los Angeles-based watch retailer Craft & Tailored makes his living in the cut-and-thrust world of vintage watch dealing, from selling high-end vintage staples from Rolex, through to less commercial (though no less cool) oddities like Ikepod, quartz Patek and the (in)famous Watchco Omega Seamasters. And, just because, we get Cam to drop his hot takes on the best vintage (and neo-vintage) watches to buy now, as well as his top tips on buying vintage. S1 Ep 42Mister Enthusiast/Phillip Toledano on 'Ruining' his Tudor, vintage Rolex and being a Bastardo!

Phillip Toledano (AKA Mister Enthusiast) is an eccentric oddball of a human, who is also full of advice: from the perfect dinner party ice-breaker through to tips on buying ex-soviet spacesuits, the man is a font of knowledge. He's also a font of creativity, which perhaps shouldn't be too surprising given that he's an artist and photographer. His subjects are as diverse as the economic collapse of American business, and United States Navy pilot's helmets, pictures that manage to tell a story more extraordinary than just what's in the image. This critical eye is applied to watches too — another gem of Toledano advice is "Don't look in the same direction as everyone else", which is why he favours ugly quartz Pateks over the coveted Nautilus. In fact, Toledano seems to take joy in ugly-yet-purposeful objects, like his internet-famous Lancia Delta Integrale, which earned the nickname Bastarda, and eventually became the Viva Bastardo brand. If you've made it through to the end of this description, you'll probably have worked out that our chat with Mister Enthusiast is wide-ranging, sometimes weird, and definitely not to be missed. S1 Ep 41Kyle Snarr (Cantonment Co/Watchonista) and Felix Copped a Custom Watch!

Typically we should start these show notes with a short bio of our guest, Kyle Snarr, but this isn't a typical week. This week Felix talks about his custom Bremont MBII, and the very real decision paralysis he encountered using their customising tool, and Andy reveals his shocking Black Hawk Down theory. But, back to Kyle Snarr. In addition to being Watchonista's freshly minted Marketing and Business Development officer, Kyle is the chief behind chic kerchief operation Cantonment Co, a brand launched one swampy NYC summer. But Kyle also a marketing professional with a love of watches, which is probably why he has places like Gear Patrol and Watchonista on his CV. We find out just why Kyle thinks the little guys are some of the most exciting operators in the space right now, and why he reckons Tudor are the most relevant brand on the planet right now. S1 Ep 40William Massena (Massena Lab) reimagining icons, Hodinkee collabs, Rolex OPs.

William Massena is a legendary figure in the world of watches. From Timezone to Antiquorum and his own venture Massena Labs, he's done it all. From what it was like loving watches growing up in Geneva, and how Timezone changed the watch industry, why collectors need to stop fawning over watch brands and what it was like trying to get into Baselworld when the internet was seen as the wild west. Massena also gives us his (typically sensible) take on watches as investments. These days, of course, William is best known for Massena Lab, a collaborative laboratory that creates watches that are a fusion and old and new. His latest creation is the Uni-Racer, a loving homage to a classic Universal Geneve, but made in a painstakingly modern way. We break down the thorny issues of originality, intent and authenticity in the watch space, issues around hype in the watch market and how William has evolved from an anti-brand guy into a brand in his own right. We're sure you've been up all night waiting for this one — our interview with The Vamps lead guitarist and backing vocalist James McVey. Founded in 2012, The Vamps are a British Pop Rock band with a string of hits and a brand new album — Cherry Blossom — under their belts, not to mention billions of streams across all the platforms. Andy and Felix chat to McVey about his musical career, what it's like starting a band on YouTube and how to stay grounded when you're continually touring (and repeatedly selling out the 02 arena). Oh, and how much fun you can have driving a Defender in Namibia with an ex-SAS veteran. Of course, they also talk watches, and how you can't help but be interested in them when you're hanging out with Ed Sheeran. James' own collection is quite interesting, with classics like Rolex and Tudor in the mix through to more obscure offerings from Vertex and Archimede. In a plot twist, it turns out that the inspiration for many of these watches is none other than Father-in-law and RedBar member Steve. While McVey might be an award-winning, chart-topping musician, Steve is the real star of this interview. S1 Ep 38George Bamford from Bamford Watch Department on changing the rules of custom watches

In the world of watches, George Bamford — and his eponymous company — Bamford Watch Department, needs no introduction. Bamford has been extolling the virtues of customisation as a hallmark of luxury since 2006 and was well ahead of the curve. But back then, taking a perfectly good watch and giving it a black coat of paint and a new dial was less accepted than it is today. And While Bamford may have started his business in the shade, these days he's very much enjoying the sunshine, with official relationships with LVMH and Kering Group watch brands. In addition to the business of customisation, we talk about the importance of creative partnerships, which is why he's making crazy custom projects with Black Badger. We also talk about how he started in watches — a Breitling Navitimer he was gifted in 1996 … and promptly disassembled. This episode is brought to you by NOMOS Glashütte, who recently launched a series of limited edition Lambda watches in steel to celebrate 175 years of watchmaking in Glashütte. S1 Ep 37Neil Ferrier (Discommon) on creating 200k tables, good watch design and creating a razor for Ryan Reynolds!

Neil Ferrier is Discommon's chief conspirator. A Scottish mechanical engineer who ended up founding and running an agile industrial design agency with a fascinating client list and output. He's made straight razors for Deadpool, crazy tables for anonymous clients and everything in between. But one of the most interesting product development stories is the one behind Discommon's humble duffle bag, which has been six years in the making and takes some surprising twists and turns (and actual bags of cash). If you've ever wondered just what it takes to turn an idea into something concrete, this is a must-listen. We also chat about his recent work with OT alum Iris Listenwell, Discommon's fan-favourite watch roll and watch wallet. And then no holds are barred when he discusses why he thinks watchmakers need to enlist the help of industrial designers (spoiler, he thinks most watch cases are basic). We also talk about how Neil hustled and used his east-Asian manufacturing experience to bring a Boeing Dreamlifter full of facemasks into South Carolina in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. S1 Ep 36Jenni Elle is back, and we've found her next watch (or six)!

Guess who's back, back again. Jenni Elle's back, and she's got spend. In case you missed episode 32, Jenni Elle is a popular YouTuber who's cut a swathe with her down-to-earth style of watch reviewing. She's also got a little bit of a problem -- she's looking for a rectangular dress watch for around 4000 Euro, and we've decided to help her out. Andy comes up with a field of safe, respectable (and fairly fiscally restrained) choices, while Felix goes a little nuts and embraces some truly odd watches. On top of that we get Jenni Elle's take on the new Rolex releases, and the hype surrounding them. Plus, Felix complains about Sepultura t-shirts (because of course) This episode is made possible by our sponsor, William Wood Watches. Full show notes, here. S1 Ep 35Big budget watch matchmaking – marking milestones and ignoring resale values!

No guests this week. Instead, we've got a double helping of watch matchmaking. First cab off the rank is Big Ben, a giant of a man who's about to celebrate his 40th and wants to celebrate in style. His idea of style is pretty good – the Vacheron Constantin Overseas. His key requirement? It has to be a big watch, cos anything too small and it looks like he's robbed someone's nan. Felix and Andy chime in with some nan-approved milestone-worthy options, including Bvlgari, Moser, Chopard and Omega. Switching gears a little is Jon, a collector who already has a healthy stable of top tier of 'safe' pieces from Rolex, Patek and the like. But for his next watch, he wants to go a little wild and throw caution (along with resale value) to the wind. And because Andy and Felix are happy to oblige, they come up with some wild options, from Sarpaneva, Hublot and HYT and the like. Watches that really demonstrate just how fun watches can be, especially if you're spending a big bag of someone else's cash. This episode is made possible by our sponsor, William Wood Watches.
