Inside the disruptive, intense style Jadeveon Clowney brings to Cleveland: Gotta Watch The Tape
On this Gotta Watch The Tape edition of the Orange and Brown Talk Podcast, Doug Lesmerises, Ellis Williams and Scott Patsko take their turn diving into Jadeveon Clowney and exactly what he brings to the Cleveland Browns. In the first half, Ellis looks at Clowney's pre-Browns history, then examines six plays from Clowney's recent past to discuss his style and what it means for Cleveland. First are three disruptive run plays where he attacks the backfield, then come three passing plays and his tendency to try to win on inside rushes. If he's close to his peak, there's a lot there. In the second half, Scott looks at the corresponding loss of Sheldon Richardson and the three players that should make up the Browns' rotation at defensive tackle now -- Jordan Elliott, Andrew Billings and Malik Jackson. Could the three of them actually combine for more production than what Richardson and Larry Ogunjobi provided last season? Thanks for listening to Gotta Watch The Tape from cleveland.com. Why the Cincinnati Bengals might stink this year, then follow the Cleveland Browns successful rebuilding plan: Gotta Watch The Tape
Gotta Watch The Tape was moved from Thursday to Friday this week by the Jadeveon Clowney signing, but don't worry, Ellis Williams, Scott Patsko and Doug Lesmerises are still here with a film and numbers breakdown about something you care about as a Browns fan. On this episode, that thing is the Cincinnati Bengals, as the guys finish their run through the AFC North after breaking down Baltimore and Pittsburgh in the last two GWTT episodes. Today, Scott takes a look at the Bengals defense in the first half of the pod, and asks whether the defense might make a jump just by getting healthy. But there might be a problem with trading defensive end Carl Lawson for defensive end Trey Hendrickson in free agency. And the Bengals will rely on Larry Ogunjobi after signing the former Brown. Then Ellis looks at the Bengals offense and examines whether they should help the offensive line or the pass catching options with the No. 5 pick in the draft. How good is Joe Burrow, and does he have the right coach calling the shots? The Bengals had a bad time of it on the offensive line last season, but they have a chance to get that turned around pretty quickly. It's a big Bengals day, and Browns fans need to be aware of a team that might pull this all together eventually -- just not this year. Thanks for listening to Gotta Watch The Tape from cleveland.com. This time, Ellis starts the episode with a look at the Pittsburgh defense, how it has become top-heavy and lost depth, and whether the Browns have figured out a way to best attack the Steelers' defensive plan. Then Scott looks at the Pittsburgh offense, where Roethlisberger is limited in the style he can play, there are two big potential losses on the offensive line, and running back needs a lift, because things clearly aren't working in the run game. On this Gotta Watch The Tape in the Orange and Brown Talk feed, Ellis Williams leads a dive into the aggression of cornerback Denzel Ward, and how to strike the right balance between a play where Ward's skills produced a pick, and another play where he bit and gave up a touchdown. As Scott Patsko and Doug Lesmerises chime in, Ellis explains how well Ward plays when his film study, confidence. speed, instincts and ball skills come together. He looks like a No. 1 corner. But there are other areas where he can still improve, and if that happens, he could be one of the best cornerbacks in the game. This discussion all starts with his pick against Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys in Week 4 last season, so come dive in on that play with GWTT from cleveland.com.
