When should Odell Beckham Jr. go in your draft? And other Browns fantasy football talk
On this Thursday Orange and Brown Talk podcast from cleveland.com, Doug Lesmerises is joined by Scott Spratt of Football Outsiders to talk about fantasy football in general, but especially how it relates to the Browns. Can Baker Mayfield be drafted as a starting fantasy quarterback? When is the right time to pick Odell Beckham Jr. in your draft? What's the right way to view the Nick Chubb-Kareem Hunt RB combo from a fantasy perspective? Are any Browns tight ends worth watching as fantasy prospects? What effect might an improved Browns defense have on Browns offensive fantasy players? Plus, there's some discussion of rookie QBs across the league, QB drafting strategy and more. Barbarian movies and football stats (it's Browns related, we promise)
On this edition of the Orange and Brown Talk Podcast, we lean into one of the craziest ideas Scott Patsko ever had -- looking back at the 1986 Browns barbarian film "Masters of the Gridiron," which features stars of the team running shirtless through the woods, fighting ninjas during a music video and seeking a ring to make them Masters of the Gridiron. Maybe you're very familiar with the 17-minute film, maybe you've never heard of it before, but it warrants at least a brief trip down memory lane At the end of the pod, Scott and Doug Lesmerises do discuss some relevant football numbers as they debate whether last year's Browns data applies this year or not. But honestly, it's mostly Scott and Doug talking Browns barbarians. Thanks for listening to another pod from cleveland.com. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. Are the 2021 Cleveland Browns tough to analyze? With Football Outsiders' Aaron Schatz
Aaron Schatz, the editor in chief of FootballOutsiders.com, joins Doug Lesmerises on this Tuesday Orange and Brown Talk to talk about what the data might tell us about the 2021 Cleveland Browns. But this might also be a team that bucks the data. The defense is totally revamped; Baker Mayfield almost had two seasons in one last season; Odell Beckham Jr., is coming back from injury ... and there are other reasons that Schatz agreed the Browns are a tough one for this season. There are lots of ways to analyze this team, and this is an angle worth listening to, since Football Outsiders breaks down the numbers of football as well as any site out there. 'Draft Day' watch pod: Most realistic, least realistic and deep dives into the characters
Doug Lesmerises and Dan Labbe had never seen 'Draft Day,' the movie that thrust the Browns into the national spotlight with Kevin Costner as GM. Scott Patsko had seen it and he had some thoughts. So the three watched the movie and got together to record a podcast recapping all things about the movie. They discussed the most and least realistic, the best and worst performances and dove into the main characters, draft prospects and draft strategy. Want to get involved in Football Insider? Why hype is the wrong word to use with the Cleveland Browns, with guest Jordan Zirm
Doug Lesmerises is joined by Jordan Zirm on this Thursday Orange and Brown Talk Podcast to discuss why the word hype is driving Doug crazy when applied to the Browns this season. Jordan is a former member of the Cleveland media scene who now lives in Los Angeles and works on The Checkdown, the NFL's social media outlet that tracks all the fun stuff going on in the league. On this pod Doug and Jordan discuss why the Browns are substance and not sizzle; what the national perception of the Browns is now and might be during the season; and whether Odell Beckham Jr. could be headed toward one of his best seasons in the league. Browns defense draft -- Who's the third pick after Myles Garrett and Denzel Ward?
Mary Kay Cabot and Doug Lesmerises are back with another draft on this Friday Orange and Brown Talk. A week ago, they each drafted 12 offensive players to form two teams from the Browns offense. So they'll each 12 defensive players to form two teams from the Browns defense. Doug has the first pick this time and of course selects Myles Garrett. But where should John Johnson III, Jadeveon Clowney, Jeremiah Owusu-Koromoah and Greg Newsome come off the board? Once again, the intention of the draft is to provide a little info about the Browns depth and to address which players are the most valuable, based both off their talent and the guys behind them. And, also, it's July and time to have a little fun before football gets serious again. Thanks for listening to the Orange and Brown Talk Podcast from cleveland.com. Why the Cleveland Browns have the NFL's best roster, a former NFL exec explains
It's time for an interview on this version of the Orange and Brown Talk Podcast, as Doug Lesmerises talks with NFL Network analyst Marc Ross, a former long-time member of the front office for the New York Giants. Ross recently ranked the top five rosters in the league on NFL.com and coming in at No. 1 were the Cleveland Brown. Why? That's what Doug and Marc talked about for 30 minutes. Tim Couch, Myles Garrett's legacy, and Hall of Fame voting: Hey, Mary Kay!
It's another episode of Hey, Mary Kay! on the Orange and Brown Talk question, and Doug Lesmerises couldn't help himself. He asked Mary Kay four questions that she could really dig into: How did she become a Pro Football Hall of Fame voter, and what did she think of the process when she joined that group? Who is a Browns player she covered that could have been a star and a fan favorite if he had been in a better situation -- like for instance, if he was a Brown right now? What would have happened if the Browns had drafted Deshaun Watson, given Watson's current off-field issues? When Myles Garrett's career is over, what might his legacy in Cleveland be? As always, Mary Kay brings the goods. Thanks for listening to the Orange and Brown Talk pod from cleveland.com. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. Orange and Brown Talk Replay: The non-QB draft
Today we continue our look back on some of our favorite roundtable podcasts from this offseason. Today, it's the non-quarterback draft. Originally aired on February 19, Mary Kay Cabot, Doug Lesmerises, Scott Patsko and Dan Labbe followed up their quarterback draft by drafting the rest of the league with the goal of figuring out where Myles Garrett ranks. Drafting the Browns' offense into 2 teams -- Who's the second pick after Baker Mayfield?
On this Friday version of the Orange and Brown Talk podcast, Mary Kay Cabot and Doug Lesmerises are drafting two Browns offenses against each other. Back and forth, they each pick a 12-man offense while debating and discussing which Browns players are the most difficult to replace, where the Browns have the most depth, and what David Njoku's future in Cleveland might be. It's a breezy little summer exercise that also might inform your view of the offensive roster in new ways. And then you can decide whether Mary Kay or Doug drafted the better offense. How the Browns' rebuild succeeded, and what the Cavs could learn from it
Something a little different on this Orange and Brown Talk episode, as Doug Lesmerises and Chris Fedor talk about both the Browns and the Cavaliers. Doug and Chris relive the three truly down years for the Browns that led to the picks and moves that produced Myles Garrett, Baker Mayfield, Denzel Ward, Nick Chubb and part of the Odell Beckham trade. The Cavs are now in a similar position after three really down years. So who are the Mayfield, Garrett, Ward and Chubb of the Cavaliers' roster? Doug and Chris have the answer to that on a crossover episode that shows why the success of the Browns should encourage another Cleveland team. Want to get involved in Football Insider? Orange and Brown Talk Replay: The Quarterback Draft
The Browns kick off training camp in 5 weeks. Fear not, we will have new pods coming your way between now and then, but we're also going to take this opportunity to re-run some of our favorite roundtable podcasts from this offseason. Today, it's the quarterback draft we did on February 5. Mary Kay Cabot, Doug Lesmerises, Scott Patsko, Ellis Williams and Dan Labbe drafted quarterbacks as a way to slot where Baker Mayfield ranks. As a reminder, this was recorded a few days prior to the Super Bowl. Some quarterbacks have since switched team and one significant quarterback wants out of his situation in Green Bay. This was also recorded before the allegations against Deshaun Watson were levied. Want to get involved in Football Insider? Click here for more info and to sign up. Could Demetric Felton be the next Duke Johnson for the Browns? Gotta Watch The Tape
Gotta Watch The Tape moves up to Tuesday this week, as Scott Patsko and Doug Lesmerises finish their breakdown of the Browns’ draft picks by diving into sixth-round pick Demetric Felton. This one got very interesting, as Scott broached the idea of Felton perhaps emerging as a new version of Duke Johnson for the Browns as a pass-catching running back. Doug undertook a comparison of Felton and D’Ernest Johnson while making the case for Felton winning the role as the Browns’ third running back this season. There are a lot of numbers and a bit of film at the end as GWTT finishes the Browns’ draft class with a back who could definitely fill a role in 2021. Will draft picks James Hudson III and Tommy Togiai be starters in two years? Gotta Watch The Tape
On this Gotta Watch The Tape from cleveland.com, Scott Patsko and Doug Lesmerises dig in to the Browns’ two fourth-round picks -- offensive tackle James Hudson III and defensive tackle Tommy Togiai. Scott breaks down the numbers of how likely it is for fourth-rounders at those positions to become starters. Then Scott and Doug look at a little film for each of them, from Hudson’s ability to move as a tackle to Togiai’s strength and his hand technique. And then, how much might either of them contribute this season? In the bigger picture, are Hudson and Togiai the kind of longer term projects who could become starters that are ideal mid-round picks for the Browns at this stage of the franchise? Scott and Doug discuss it, and thank you for listening to Gotta Watch The Tape in the Orange and Brown Talk feed. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
