ばつりばつりと白羽さんが話すには、彼はルームシェアをしていたようだが、家賃を滞納してしまい、ほとんど追い出さかかっているという。以前はこういうときは北海道の実家に帰って凌いでいたが、５年前に弟が結婚して、今では実家は２世帯住宅に改装されてお嫁さんと甥っ子が住んでおり、帰っても居場所がないのだという。白羽さんは弟の奥さんに手悪いされているらしく、今までは甘えて金を借りることが出来たのに、それも自由にできなくなったそうだった。
「あの嫁が口をでしてきてからおかしくなったんだ。あいつ何で弟に寄生している存在のくせに、我が物で家をうろうろしやがって、死ぬ！」
恨みつらみを交えた白羽さんの身の上話は長くて、私は途中からほとんど聞かずに時計を見ていた。
もう夜の１１時になろうとしている。私は明日もアルバイトだ。体調管理をして健康は体をお店に持っていくことも時給の内だと、二人目の店長に教わったというのに、寝不足になってしまう。
「白羽さん、それじゃ家に来ませんか？食費を出していくれれば泊めますよ」
白羽さんはいくところがないみたいで、このまま放っておいたら朝までドリンクバーで粘りそうな勢いだった。私はもう面倒になり、「あ、」「いや、でも」などと（９８）いう白羽さんを強引に家に連れ帰った。

With a bitter tone, Shiraha-san spoke, and it seemed that he had been sharing a room, but he had fallen behind on rent and was on the verge of being evicted.
以前はこういうときは北海道の実家に帰って凌いでいたが、５年前に弟が結婚して、今では実家は２世帯住宅に改装されてお嫁さんと甥っ子が住んでおり、帰っても居場所がないのだという。
In the past, when things like this happened, he used to return to his family home in Hokkaido to get by. However, five years ago, his younger brother got married, and now their family home has been renovated into a two-family house, where his sister-in-law and nephew live. He said he has no place to go back to.
白羽さんは弟の奥さんに手悪いされているらしく、今までは甘えて金を借りることが出来たのに、それも自由にできなくなったそうだった。
It seems that Shiraha-san is having a difficult time with his younger brother's wife, and although he used to be able to borrow money by relying on them, now he can't do that freely anymore.
「あの嫁が口をでしてきてからおかしくなったんだ。あいつ何で弟に寄生している存在のくせに、我が物で家をうろうろしやがって、死ぬ！」
"It's all because of that wife. Ever since she started running her mouth, things have gotten weird. She's just parasitic on my brother, yet she acts like she owns the place and roams around the house. Damn!"
恨みつらみを交えた白羽さんの身の上話は長くて、私は途中からほとんど聞かずに時計を見ていた。Shiraha-san's personal story, filled with resentment and bitterness, was lengthy, and I had been checking the time and not really listening from the middle.
もう夜の１１時になろうとしている。私は明日もアルバイトだ。体調管理をして健康は体をお店に持っていくことも時給の内だと、二人目の店長に教わったというのに、寝不足になってしまう。
It was already approaching 11 PM at night. I had work again tomorrow. Although I had been told by the second store manager that maintaining my health and bringing my body to the shop was part of the hourly wage, I was going to end up sleep-deprived.
「白羽さん、それじゃ家に来ませんか？食費を出していくれれば泊めますよ」 "Shiraha-san, why don't you come to my place? If you cover the food expenses, you can stay over."
白羽さんはいくところがないみたいで、このまま放っておいたら朝までドリンクバーで粘りそうな勢いだった。私はもう面倒になり、「あ、」「いや、でも」などと（９８）いう白羽さんを強引に家に連れ帰った。
It seemed like Shiraha-san had nowhere to go, and if I left him like this, he might linger at the drink bar until morning. I was already getting tired of it, so I forcefully took Shiraha-san to my home, despite his hesitant protests.
