白羽さんがテーブル揺らし、ジャズミンティーがカップから溢れた。
「僕はそれできが付いたんだ。この世界は、縄文時代と変わってないんですよ。ムラのためにならない人間は削除されていく。狩りをしない男に、子供を産まない女。現代社会だ、個人主義だと言いながら、ムラに所属しようとしない人間は、干渉され、無理強いされ、最新的にはムラから追放されるんだ」
「白羽さんは、縄文時代の話が好きですね」
「好きじゃない。大嫌いだ！でも、その世が現代社会の皮を被った縄文時代なんですよ。大きな獲物を捕ってくる、力の強い男に女が群がり、村一番の美女が嫁いでいく。狩りに参加しなかったり、参加しても力が弱く役立たないような男は見下される。構図はまったく変わってないんだ」
「はあ」
「間の抜けた相槌しか打つことができない。けれど、白羽さんのいうことを、完全に不定できるわけでもなかった。コンビニと一緒で、私たちはは入れ替わっているだ（９３）けで、ずっと同じ光景を続けているのかもれない。

"I've been wondering when this world went wrong, reading history books week after week. Whether it's the Meiji era, Edo era, Heian era, no matter how far back I go, the world remains wrong. Even if I trace it back to the Jomon period!"

Shiraha-san shook the table, and the jasmine tea overflowed from the cup.

"That's when I got this idea. This world hasn't changed since the Jomon period. Humans who are not useful for the community will be eliminated. Men who don't hunt, women who don't bear children. Despite claiming to be a modern society and individualistic, those who don't belong to the community are interfered with, coerced, and ultimately expelled from the community."
「白羽さんは、縄文時代の話が好きですね」
"Shiraha-san, you sure seem to like talking about the Jomon period, don’t you."
「好きじゃない。大嫌いだ！でも、その世が現代社会の皮を被った縄文時代なんですよ。大きな獲物を捕ってくる、力の強い男に女が群がり、村一番の美女が嫁いでいく。狩りに参加しなかったり、参加しても力が弱く役立たないような男は見下される。構図はまったく変わってないんだ」
"I don't like it. I hate it! But that world is essentially the Jomon period disguised as modern society. Women flock to strong men who bring in big game, the village's most beautiful woman gets married. Men who don't participate in hunting or who participate but lack strength are looked down upon. The structure hasn't changed at all."

"Sigh."

"I can only give empty nods. However, I couldn't completely deny what Shiraha-san said. Just like at a convenience store, maybe we are continually changing, yet continuing the same scenery."
