店の外にいる白羽さんの姿にきが付いたのは偶然だった。夜、誰もいないオフェス街の隅にむっくりとした影があるので、私は小さい頃遊んだ影送を思いだして、目をこすった。近づいてみると、おどおどとした白羽さんがビルの陰で腰を屈めて身を隠しているのがわかった。
白羽さんは、住所を知ろうとしていた女性客が出てくるのを持っているようだった。女性はいつも会社帰りに店に寄ってドライフルーツを買っていくので、その時間までバークルームをうろうろしていると、前に店長が言っていたことを思い出した。
「白羽さん、今度こそ警察呼ばれますよ」
私は白羽さんにきが疲れないように背後にまわり、声をかけた。白羽さんはこちらの方がびっくりするほど身体を震わせて振り向き、私だと解ると顔をしかめた。
「なんだ。古倉さんじゃないですか？」
「持ち伏せですか？お客様に対する迷惑行為は、店員の禁忌中の禁忌ですよ」
「僕はもうコンビニ店員じゃない」

* At night, in a corner of the deserted office district, there was a dark figure. So, I recalled the shadow play I used to do when I was little and rubbed my eyes.
近づいてみると、おどおどとした白羽さんがビルの陰で腰を屈めて身を隠しているのがわかった。
* As I approached, I realized that the nervous-looking Shiraha-san was crouching in the shadow of a building, hiding himself.
白羽さんは、住所を知ろうとしていた女性客が出てくるのを待っているようだった。
* It seemed like Shiraha-san was waiting for the female customer whose address he know.
女性はいつも会社帰りに店に寄ってドライフルーツを買っていくので、その時間までバークルームをうろうろしていると、前に店長が言っていたことを思い出した。
* Since the woman always stopped by the store on her way back from work to buy dried fruits, I remembered what the store manager had said and was wandering around the back room until that time.
「白羽さん、今度こそ警察呼ばれますよ」
* "Shiraha-san, this time you'll definitely get the police called on you."
私は白羽さんに気を疲れないように背後に回り、声をかけた。
* I went behind Shiraha-san to not startle him and called out.
白羽さんはこちらの方がびっくりするほど身体を震わせて振り向き、私だと解ると顔をしかめた。
* Shiraha-san's body trembled surprisingly when he turned around, and once he realized it was me, he frowned.
「なんだ。古倉さんじゃないですか？」
* "What is it? Isn't it Furukura-san?"
「持ち伏せですか？お客様に対する迷惑行為は、店員の禁忌中の禁忌ですよ」
* "Are you lurking? Causing trouble for customers is the ultimate taboo for store employees."
「僕はもうコンビニ店員じゃない」
* "I'm not a convenience store clerk anymore."
