「。。。なんか、宗教みたいっすね」
そうですよ、と反射的に心の中で答える。
これから、私たちは「店員」という、コンビニのための存在になるのだ。白羽さんはそのことにまだ慣れない様子で、口はぱくぱくさせるだけで、ほとんど声を出していなかった。
「朝礼終わり！今日も一日がんばろう！」
店長の言葉に「はい！」と私と菅原さんが応えた。
「それじゃあ、何かわからないことあったら気軽に聞いてくださいね。よろしくお願いします！]
私が声をかけると、白羽さんが薄く笑った。
「はあ、わからないこと？ コンビニのバイトで、ですか？」
白羽さんは鼻で笑い、笑った拍子に鼻がプーという音を出し、鼻水が鼻の穴に膜を作っているのが見えた。
白羽さんの紙で作ったような乾燥しきった皮膚の裏側にも、膜を張るような水分があるのだなと、私がその膜が割れるのにきを取られていると、「特にないですよ。僕は大体わかってるんで」（５２）と白羽さんが小声の早口で言った。
「。。。なんか、宗教みたいっすね」
"...It's kind of like a religion, isn't it?"
そうですよ、と反射的に心の中で答える。
"Yes, that's right," I reflexively answer in my mind.
これから、私たちは「店員」という、コンビニのための存在になるのだ。 From now on, we will become "clerks," beings meant for the convenience store.
白羽さんはそのことにまだ慣れない様子で、口はぱくぱくさせるだけで、ほとんど声を出していなかった。 Shihara-san still seemed unaccustomed to this, opening and closing his mouth without saying much.
「朝礼終わり！今日も一日がんばろう！」 "End of the morning meeting! Let's do our best today!" The manager's words.
店長の言葉に「はい！」と私と菅原さんが応えた。
In response to the manager's words, both Sugawara-san and I replied with, "Yes!"
「それじゃあ、何かわからないことあったら気軽に聞いてくださいね。よろしくお願いします！
"Well then, if you have any questions or anything you don't understand, please feel free to ask. Thank you!"
私が声をかけると、白羽さんが薄く笑った。
When I spoke up, Shihara-san smiled faintly.
「はあ、わからないこと？ コンビニのバイトで、ですか？」 "Huh, you don't know something? About working at a convenience store?"
白羽さんは鼻で笑い、笑った拍子に鼻がプーという音を出し、鼻水が鼻の穴に膜を作っているのが見えた。
Shihara-san chuckled through his nose, and in the process, a "poo" sound came from his nose, and you could see that nasal mucus had formed a film inside his nostrils.
白羽さんの紙で作ったような乾燥しきった皮膚の裏側にも、膜を張るような水分があるのだなと、私がその膜が割れるのにきを取られていると、「特にないですよ。僕は大体わかってるんで」と白羽さんが小声の早口で言った。
I observed that even on the dry, papery skin on the back of Shihara-san 's hand, there was moisture like a film. While I was cautious that this film might break, Shihara-san said in a quiet, fast-paced voice, "There's nothing, really. I pretty much understand it (the job)."
