この男が石油開運の企業に勤めていることを青豆は知っている。中東諸国での設備投資に関するスペシャリストのだ。与えられた情報によれば、その領域では有能だということだった。物腰でそれはわかる。育ちが良く、高い収入を待て、ジャガーの新車に乗っている。甘やかされた少年時代を送り、外国に留学し、英語とフランスごをよく話し、何ごとによらず自信たっぷりだ。そしてどのようなことであれ、他人から何かを要求されることに我慢ならないタイプだ。批判にも我慢ならない。とくにそれが女性から向けらた場合には、その一方で、自分が他人に何かを要求することはチャットも気にならない。妻をゴルフクラブで殴って肋骨を数本折ることにもさして痛痒を感じない。この世界は自分が中心になって動いていると思っている。自分がいなければ地球はうまく動かないだろうと考えている。誰かに自分の行動を邪魔されたり不貞されたりすると腹を立てる。それも激しく腹を立てる。サーモスタットが飛んでしまうくらい。
「ご迷惑をおかけします」と青豆は営業用の明るい微笑みを浮かべたまま言った。そして邪魔事実を作るように、身体を表分部屋の中に押し込んだ。「お客様は、えー、深山様でいらっしゃいますね」、彼女は尋ねた。写真で何度を見て顔は覚えているが、人違いでないことを確認しておいて損はない。
間違えたら取り返しがつかない。
「そうだよ、深山だ」とぞんざいな口調で男は言った。それからあきらめたようにため息をついた。わかったよ、なんでも勝手にすればいい、というように、そしてボールペン片手に机に向かい、読みかけていた書類をもう一度手に取った。メイクされたままのダブルベッドの上にはスーツの上着と、ストライプのネクタイが乱暴に取り出せれている。どちらもいかにも高価そうなものだ。

He would get angry if someone interfered with his actions or was unfaithful to him. He would get extremely angry, as if a thermostat had blown.

"I apologize for the inconvenience," said Aomame with a bright, businesslike smile.

Then, as if creating an obstruction, she pushed her body into the front part of the room.

"The guest is, uh, Mr. Miyama, isn't it?" she asked.

She remembered his face from photos, but it was worth confirming that it was not a case of mistaken identity.

If mistaken, it can't be undone.

"Yes, it's Miyama," the man said in a casual tone.

Then he sighed as if he had given up.

"Fine, do whatever you want," as if to say, he turned to the desk with a pen in hand and picked up the documents he had been reading.

On the made-up double bed, a suit jacket and a striped tie were carelessly thrown.

Both looked quite expensive.
