青豆はショルダーバッグを肩にかけたまま、まっすぐクローゼットに向かった。空調のスイッチパネルがそこにあることは前もって聞かせれている。クローゼットの中にはソフトな素材でつかられたトレンチコートと、濃いグレーのカシミアのマフラーがかけてあった。荷物は革製の書類かばんひとつきりだ。着替えも化粧バッグもない。なぶんここに逗留するつもりはないのだろう。机の上にはルームサービスとったコーヒーポットがある。３０秒ばかりパネルを点検するふりをしてから、彼女は深山に声をかけた。
「どうもご努力をありがとうございました、深山さま。この部屋の設備には何も問題はありません」
「だからこの部屋の空調には問題ないって、はじめから言ってるじゃないか」深山はこちらを振り向きもせず、横柄な声で言った。
「あの、深山さま」、青豆はおずおずと言った。「失礼ですが、首筋に何かがついているようです」
「首筋に」深山はそう言って、てを自分の首の後ろにあてた。そして少しこすってから、その手のひらを不審そうに眺めた。「何もついてない見たいだけれど」
「ちょっと失礼させていただきます」と青豆は言って机に近寄った。「近くで拝見してよろしいですか」
「ああ、いいけど」と深山はわけがわからないという顔をして言った。「何かってどんなもの？」

* 空調のスイッチパネルがそこにあることは前もって聞かせれている。 English She had been informed in advance that the air conditioning switch panel was there.

Inside the closet, there was a trench coat made of soft material and a dark gray cashmere scarf.

* どうもご努力をありがとうございました、深山さま。この部屋の設備には何も問題はありません」 "Thank you very much for your effort, Mr. Miyama. There is no problem with the equipment in this room."
* だからこの部屋の空調には問題ないって、はじめから言ってるじゃないか」深山はこちらを振り向きもせず、横柄な声で言った。 "That's what I've been saying from the beginning, that there's no problem with the air conditioning in this room," Miyama said without turning around, in a haughty voice.
* あの、深山さま」、青豆はおずおずと言った。「失礼ですが、首筋に何かがついているようです」 "Um, Mr. Miyama," Aomame said hesitantly. "Excuse me, but it seems like there's something on your neck."
* 「首筋に」深山はそう言って、てを自分の首の後ろにあてた。そして少しこすってから、その手のひらを不審そうに眺めた。「何もついてない見たいだけれど」 "On my neck?" Miyama said, and put his hand to the back of his neck. Then he rubbed a little and looked at his palm suspiciously. "It doesn't seem like there's anything there."
* 「ちょっと失礼させていただきます」と青豆は言って机に近寄った。「近くで拝見してよろしいですか」 "Excuse me for a moment," said Aomame as she approached the desk. "May I take a closer look?"
* 「ああ、いいけど」と深山はわけがわからないという顔をして言った。「何かってどんなもの？」
* "Oh, sure," Miyama said with a puzzled look. "What kind of thing is it?"
