しかしこの警官はなぜか、セミオートマチックで発射できる最新型の銃撃を携行していた。九ミリの弾丸が十六発くらい装塡できるやづだ。たぶんグロックかベレッタ。いったい何が起こったのだろう。制服と拳銃の規格が、彼女の知らなうちに変更されてしまったのか？いや、そんなはずはない。青豆は新聞記事はこまめたチェックしている。そんな変更があったら、大きく報道されるはずだ。そしてまた彼女は警官たらの姿には常に注意を払っていた。今朝まで、ほんの数時間前まで、警官たちはいつものごわごわした制服を着て、いつもの無骨な回転拳銃を身に着けていたのだ。彼女はそれをはっきりき記憶していた。奇妙だ。
しかし青豆にはそれについて深く考えている余裕はなかった。済ませなくてはならない仕事がある。
青豆は渋谷駅のコインロッカーにコートを預け、スーツだけの姿になって、そのホテルに向かって急ぎ足で坂道を上った。中級のシティー・ホテルだ。特に豪華なホテルではないが、一応の設備は揃っているし、清潔で、いかがわしい客も来ない。一階にはレストランがあり、コンビニエンス・ストアも入っている。駅に近く、ロケーションがいい。
彼女はホテルに入ると、まっすぐ洗面所に行った。ありがたいことに洗面所には誰もいなかった。まず便座に座って放尿をした。とても長い放尿だった。青豆は目は閉じて何を思とともなく違い潮騒に耳を登ませるように自分の放尿の音を聞いていた。それから洗面台に向かい、石鹸を使って丁寧に手を洗い、ブラシで髪を溶かし、鼻をかんだ。歯ブラシを出して、歯磨き粉をつけずに手早く歯をに磨いた。時間があまりないからフロスは省いた。そこまでする必要はあるまい。

However, for some reason, this police officer was carrying the latest model of a semi-automatic gun that could be fired.

It was a type that could load about sixteen 9mm bullets. Probably a Glock or a Beretta.
いったい何が起こったのだろう。制服と拳銃の規格が、彼女の知らないうちに変更されてしまったのか？
What on earth happened? Were the standards for uniforms and handguns changed without her knowing?
いや、そんなはずはない。青豆は新聞記事はこまめにチェックしている。そんな変更があったら、大きく報道されるはずだ。
No, that can't be. Aomame carefully checks the newspaper articles. If such changes had occurred, they would have been widely reported.
そしてまた彼女は警官たちの姿には常に注意を払っていた。今朝まで、ほんの数時間前まで、警官たちはいつものごわごわした制服を着て、いつもの無骨な回転拳銃を身に着けていたのだ。
And she always paid attention to the appearance of the police officers. Until this morning, just a few hours ago, they were wearing their usual stiff uniforms and their usual bulky revolvers.
彼女はそれをはっきりと記憶していた。奇妙だ。
She remembered it clearly. It was strange.
しかし青豆にはそれについて深く考えている余裕はなかった。済ませなくてはならない仕事がある。
However, Aomame didn't have the luxury to think deeply about it. There was a job she had to finish.

Aomame left her coat in a coin locker at Shibuya Station, dressed only in a suit, and hurried up the hill towards the hotel.

It was a mid-range city hotel. Not particularly luxurious, but it had the necessary amenities, was clean, and didn't attract dubious guests.
一階にはレストランがあり、コンビニエンス・ストアも入っている。駅に近く、ロケーションがいい。
There was a restaurant on the first floor, and a convenience store as well. It was near the station and in a good location.
彼女はホテルに入ると、まっすぐ洗面所に行った。ありがたいことに洗面所には誰もいなかった。
When she entered the hotel, she went straight to the washroom. Fortunately, there was no one in the washroom.
まず便座に座って放尿をした。とても長い放尿だった。青豆は目を閉じて何ともなく違い潮騒に耳を傾けるように自分の放尿の音を聞いていた。
First, she sat on the toilet and urinated. She urinated for a very long time. Aomame listened to the sound of her urinating as if she were listening to the sound of the sea with her eyes closed.
13. それから洗面台に向かい、石鹸を使って丁寧に手を洗い、ブラシで髪をとかし、鼻をかんだ。
Then she went to the washbasin, washed her hands carefully with soap, brushed her hair, and blew her nose.
14. 歯ブラシを出して、歯磨き粉をつけずに手早く歯を磨いた。時間があまりないからフロスは省いた。そこまでする必要はあるまい。
She took out her toothbrush and quickly brushed her teeth without toothpaste. There wasn't much time, so she skipped flossing. There was no need to go that far.
