ろくに前にも進めないし、かといって後ろにも下がれない。でも私はそうじゃない。私には済ませなくてはならない仕事がある。果たすべき使命がある。だから私は先に進ませてもらう。
青豆は最後に、そこにるみんなに向かって思い切り顔をしかめたかった。しかしなんとかそれを思いとどまった。そんな余計なことをしている余裕はない。一度顔を顰めると、元の表情を回復するのに手間がかかるのだ。
青豆は無言の観衆に背を向け、足の裏に鉄の無骨な冷たさを感じながら、緊急避難用の階段を慎重な足取りでふり始めた。四月を迎えたばかりの冷ややかな風が彼女の髪を揺らし、いびつなかたちの左側の耳をときおり向きだしにした。
"ろくに前にも進めないし、かといって後ろにも下がれない。" - They couldn't really move forward, nor could they go back.
"でも私はそうじゃない。" - But that's not the case with me.
"私には済ませなくてはならない仕事がある。" - I have a job that needs to be finished.
"果たすべき使命がある。" - I have a mission to fulfill.
"だから私は先に進ませてもらう。" - That's why I'll be going ahead.
"青豆は最後に、そこにるみんなに向かって思い切り顔をしかめたかった。" - Aomame wanted to grimace at everyone there, in the end.
"しかしなんとかそれを思いとどまった。" - But she somehow stopped herself.
"そんな余計なことをしている余裕はない。" - There was no time for such unnecessary things.
"一度顔を顰めると、元の表情を回復するのに手間がかかるのだ。" - Once she frowned, it took effort to return to her original expression.
"青豆は無言の観衆に背を向け、足の裏に鉄の無骨な冷たさを感じながら、緊急避難用の階段を慎重な足取りでふり始めた。" - Aomame turned her back on the silent audience, and with a careful tread, began to descend the emergency stairs, feeling the stark cold of the metal on the soles of her feet.
"四月を迎えたばかりの冷ややかな風が彼女の髪を揺らし、いびつなかたちの左側の耳をときおり向きだしにした。" - The chilly April wind tousled her hair, occasionally revealing her oddly shaped left ear.
