金網の扉のついた人口があったが、チェーンが幾重にも巻きつけられ、大きな南京錠がかかっていた。高い扉で、てっぺんには有速鉄線までめぐらされている。とてもノリ肩をの押したり引いたりしてみたが、ぴくりとも動かしなかった。猫が出入りするほどの隙間もない。やれやれ、どうしてここまで戸締まりを厳しくしなくちゃならないんだ。盗まれて困るものなんて何もないっていうのに。彼女は顔をしかめ、毒づき、地面に唾まで吐いた。まったく、せっかく苦労して高速道路から乗り的たというのに、資材置き場に閉じ込められるなんて。腕時計に目をやった。時間にはまだ余裕がある。しかしいつまでもこんなところでうろうろしているわけにはいかない。
そしてもちろん、今さら高速道路にとって返すわけにもいかない。
ストッキングはかかとのところが両方とも破れていた。誰にもみられていないことを誰かめてから、ハイヒールを脱ぎ、スカートをめくり上げてストッキングを下ろし、両脚からむしり取り、また靴を履いた。穴のあいたストッキングはバッグにしまった。それで気持ちが少し落ち着いた。青豆は注意深く視線を配りながら、その資材置き場を歩いてまわった。小学校の教室くらいの広さだ。すぐに一周できる。出入り口はやはり人つしかない。鍵のかかったフェンスの扉だけだ。工真がなければポルトははずせそうにない。お手上げだ。

Good grief, why does it have to be so securely locked?

Despite there being nothing that would cause trouble if stolen.

She scowled, cursed, and even spat on the ground.
8. まったく、せっかく苦労して高速道路から乗り的たというのに、資材置き場に閉じ込められるなんて。
Really, after all the trouble to get off the highway, to be trapped in a storage yard.
9. 腕時計に目をやった。時間にはまだ余裕がある。
She glanced at her wristwatch. There was still some time left.
10. しかしいつまでもこんなところでうろうろしているわけにはいかない。
But she couldn't keep wandering around in such a place forever.
11. そしてもちろん、今さら高速道路にとって返すわけにもいかない。
And of course, she couldn’t just turn back to the highway now.
12. ストッキングはかかとのところが両方とも破れていた。
Both heels of her stockings were torn.
13. 誰にもみられていないことを誰かめてから、ハイヒールを脱ぎ、スカートをめくり上げてストッキングを下ろし、両脚からむしり取り、また靴を履いた。
After making sure no one was watching, she took off her high heels, lifted her skirt, pulled down her stockings, removed them from both legs, and put her shoes back on.
14. 穴のあいたストッキングはバッグにしまった。それで気持ちが少し落ち着いた。
She put the torn stockings in her bag, which calmed her down a bit.
15. 青豆は注意深く視線を配りながら、その資材置き場を歩いてまわった。
Aomame carefully looked around as she walked through the storage yard.
16. 小学校の教室くらいの広さだ。すぐに一周できる。
It was about the size of an elementary school classroom. She could make a round quickly.

The only way in or out was the locked gate in the fence.

Without tools, it seemed impossible to remove the bolts. She was at her wit’s end.
