幸いなことに、塀のごとにも人形はなかった。青豆は服装を今一度点検し、表情を半静に戻してから、信号のあることろまで歩き、２回六号線をわたり、目についたドラッグストアに入って新しいストッキングを買った。女店員に頼んで奥のスペースを使話せてもらい、ストッキングをはいた。それで気分はかなり良くなった。胃のあたりにわざかに残っていたた船酔いに似に不快感も、今ではすっかり消え失せていた。彼女は店員に札を言って店を出た。
たぶん首都高速が事故で渋滞しているとい情報が広まったせいだろう、それと並行して走る国道二四六号線は、血うも以上に混み合っていた。だから青豆はタクシーに乗るのをあきらめて、近くの駅から東急新玉川線に乗ることにした。その方が間違いない。もうタクシーで渋滞に巻き込間れるのはごめんだ。
三元茶屋の駅に向かう途中で一人の警官とすれ違った。若い長身の警官で、足早にどこかに何かって歩いていくところだった。彼女は一瞬緊張したが、警官は急いでいるらしく、まっすぐ前を向いて、青豆に視線を向けることすらしなかった。すれ違う直前に、彼女はその警官の服装がいつもと違うことに気づいた。見慣れた警官の制服ではない。同じ濃紺の上着だが形が微妙に違う。もっとジュアルな作りになっている。前ほどぴたりとしていない。材質もより柔らかいものに変わっている。襟が小さく、紺色もいくぶん淡くなっている。それから拳銃の型が違う。彼が腰につけているのは大型オートマチックだった。日本の警官がふつ支給されているのは回転式の拳銃だ。銃器犯罪が極めて少ない日本で、警官が銃撃戦い巻き込まレルような機会はほとんどないから、旧式の六連発リボルバーでとくに不足はない。リボルバーの方が構造が単純で、（６５）安価で故障も少ないし、手入れも簡単だ。

Aomame checked her attire once more, calmed her expression, then walked to a place with a traffic signal, crossed Route 6 twice, and entered a drugstore she noticed to buy new stockings.
女店員に頼んで奥のスペースを使話せてもらい、ストッキングをはいた。
She asked a female clerk to let her use the space in the back to put on the stockings.
それで気分はかなり良くなった。
That made her feel much better.
胃のあたりにわざかに残っていたた船酔いに似に不快感も、今ではすっかり消え失せていた。
The nausea that lingered in her stomach, similar to seasickness, had now completely disappeared.
彼女は店員に札を言って店を出た。
She paid the clerk and left the store.

Probably because of the spread of information about an accident causing a traffic jam on the metropolitan expressway, the parallel Route 246 was even more congested.
だから青豆はタクシーに乗るのをあきらめて、近くの駅から東急新玉川線に乗ることにした。
Therefore, Aomame gave up on taking a taxi and decided to take the Tokyu Shin-Tamagawa Line from a nearby station instead.
その方が間違いない。
That was definitely a better choice.
もうタクシーで渋滞に巻き込間れるのはごめんだ。
She had no desire to get caught in a traffic jam in a taxi again.
三元茶屋の駅に向かう途中で一人の警官とすれ違った。
On her way to Sangenjaya station, she passed by a police officer.
若い長身の警官で、足早にどこかに何かって歩いていくところだった。
He was a young, tall officer, quickly walking somewhere.
彼女は一瞬緊張したが、警官は急いでいるらしく、まっすぐ前を向いて、青豆に視線を向けることすらしなかった。
She tensed for a moment, but the officer, seeming in a hurry, looked straight ahead and didn't even glance at Aomame.
1 すれ違う直前に、彼女はその警官の服装がいつもと違うことに気づいた。
Just before they passed each other, she noticed that the officer's uniform was different than usual.
見慣れた警官の制服ではない。
It wasn't the familiar police uniform.
同じ濃紺の上着だが形が微妙に違う。
It was the same dark navy jacket, but the shape was subtly different.
もっとジュアルな作りになっている。
It was made to look more casual.
前ほどぴたりとしていない。
It wasn't as tight-fitting as before.
材質もより柔らかいものに変わっている。
The material had changed to something softer.
襟が小さく、紺色もいくぶん淡くなっている。
The collar was smaller, and the navy color was somewhat lighter.
それから拳銃の型が違う。
And the type of pistol was different.
彼が腰につけているのは大型オートマチックだった。
He had a large automatic pistol on his waist.
日本の警官がふつ支給されているのは回転式の拳銃だ。
Japanese police officers are usually issued revolvers.
銃器犯罪が極めて少ない日本で、警官が銃撃戦い巻き込まレルような機会はほとんどないから、旧式の六連発リボルバーでとくに不足はない。
In Japan, where gun crime is extremely rare and police officers are seldom involved in gunfights, the old-fashioned six-shot revolver is usually sufficient.
リボルバーの方が構造が単純で、（６５）安価で故障も少ないし、手入れも簡単だ。
Revolvers have a simpler structure, are cheaper, less prone to malfunction, and easier to maintain.
