彼女の指紋が残っているのは、空調パネルとドアソプだけだ。それ以外の場所には手を触れていない。そしてタオルを元に戻す。コーヒーポットとカップをルームサービス用のトレイに載せて、廊下に出した。そうすればポットを下げにきたボーイがドアをノックすることはないし、死体の発見はその遅くなる。掃除のみどがこの部屋で死体を発見するのは、うまくいけば翌日のチェックアウト時刻よりあとのことになる。
彼が今度の会議に出てこなければ、人々はおそらくこの部屋に電話をかけるだろう。しかし受話器をとるものはいない。人々は不審に思ってマネージャーにドアを開けさせるかもれない。あるいは別に開けさせないかもしれない。それは成り行き次第だ。
青豆は洗面所の鏡の前に立ち、服装に乱れのないことを確かめた。ブラウスの一番上のボタンをとめた。私のことをろくすっぽみもしなかったのだから。人のことを一体なんだと思っているんだ。彼女は髪を適度にしかめる。それから髪を整え、指で軽くマッサージして顔の筋肉を緩め鏡に向かって愛想良く微笑みを浮かべた。歯医者に研磨してもらったばかりの白い歯も見せてみた。さあ。私はこれから死者のいる部屋を出て、いつもの現実の世界に戻って行くのだ。気圧を調整しなくてはならない。私はもうクールな殺人者ではない。シャープなスーツに身を包んだ、にこやかで有能な餅子ネス・ウーマンなのだ。
青豆はドアを少しだけ開け、あたりを伺い、廊下に誰もいないことを誰かめてからするりと部屋を出た。エレベータは使わず、階段を歩いて降りた。ロビーを抜けるときも誰も彼女には（７６）注意を払わなかった。背筋を伸ばし、前方を見つめ、足早に歩いた。しかし、誰かの注意をひくほど速くは歩かない。彼女はプロだった。それもほとんど完璧に近いプロだ。もしもう少し胸が大きければ、文句なく完璧なプロになれたかもしれない、と青豆は残念に思う。顔をもう一度軽く顰める。でもしかたない。与えらたものでやっていくしかない。

She did not touch any other places.
そしてタオルを元に戻す。
And then she put the towel back in its place.
コーヒーポットとカップをルームサービス用のトレイに載せて、廊下に出した。
She placed the coffee pot and cup on the room service tray and put it out in the hallway.
そうすればポットを下げにきたボーイがドアをノックすることはないし、死体の発見はその遅くなる。
By doing so, the boy who comes to take the pot won't knock on the door, and the discovery of the body will be delayed.
掃除のみどがこの部屋で死体を発見するのは、うまくいけば翌日のチェックアウト時刻よりあとのことになる。
If things go well, the cleaning staff will find the body in this room after the checkout time the next day.
彼が今度の会議に出てこなければ、人々はおそらくこの部屋に電話をかけるだろう。
If he doesn't show up for the next meeting, people will probably call this room.
しかし受話器をとるものはいない。
But there will be no one to pick up the receiver.
人々は不審に思ってマネージャーにドアを開けさせるかもれない。
People may become suspicious and have the manager open the door.
あるいは別に開けさせないかもしれない。
Or they might not have it opened at all.
それは成り行き次第だ。
It all depends on how things unfold.
青豆は洗面所の鏡の前に立ち、服装に乱れのないことを確かめた。
Aomame stood in front of the bathroom mirror and made sure her clothes were in order.
ブラウスの一番上のボタンをとめた。
She fastened the top button of her blouse.
私のことをろくすっぽみもしなかったのだから。
He didn't give a damn about me.
人のことを一体なんだと思っているんだ。
What on earth does he think of others?
彼女は髪を適度に顰める。
She slightly frowned her hair.
それから髪を整え、指で軽くマッサージして顔の筋肉を緩め鏡に向かって愛想良く微笑みを浮かべた。
Then, she fixed her hair, lightly massaged her face with her fingers to relax her facial muscles, and smiled amiably at the mirror.
歯医者に研磨してもらったばかりの白い歯も見せてみた。
She also showed off her white teeth, which had just been polished by the dentist.
さあ。私はこれから死者のいる部屋を出て、いつもの現実の世界に戻って行くのだ。
Now, I will leave the room with the dead body and go back to the usual reality.
気圧を調整しなくてはならない。
I need to adjust the pressure.
私はもうクールな殺人者ではない。
I am no longer a cool murderer.
シャープなスーツに身を包んだ、にこやかで有能な餅子ネス・ウーマンなのだ。
I am a cheerful and capable businesswoman dressed in a sharp suit.

Aomame opened the door slightly, looked around, and after making sure no one was in the hallway, she slipped out of the room.
エレベータは使わず、階段を歩いて降りた。
She did not use the elevator, but walked down the stairs.
ロビーを抜けるときも誰も彼女には（７６）注意を払わなかった。
Even when passing through the lobby, no one paid any attention to her.
背筋を伸ばし、前方を見つめ、足早に歩いた。
She walked briskly, with her back straight and looking forward.
しかし、誰かの注意をひくほど速くは歩かない。
However, she did not walk fast enough to attract anyone's attention.
彼女はプロだった。それもほとんど完璧に近いプロだ。
She was a pro. Almost a perfect pro.
もしもう少し胸が大きければ、文句なく完璧なプロになれたかもしれない、と青豆は残念に思う。
Aomame regretted that if her breasts were a bit larger, she might have been an unquestionably perfect pro.
顔をもう一度軽く顰める。でもしかたない。与えらたものでやっていくしかない。
She frowned lightly again. But it can't be helped. She has to make do with what she was given.
