私はふと、さっき出てきたコンビニの窓ガラスに映る自分の姿を眺めた。この手も足も、コンビニのために存在していると思と、グラスの中の自分が、初めて意味のある生き物に思える。
「いらっしゃいませ！」
私は生まれたばかりの甥っ子と出会った病院のグラスを思い出していた。ガラスの向こうから、私とよく似た明るい声がどよめくのが聞こえる。私の細胞全てがガラスの向こうで響く音楽に呼応して、皮膚の中で蠢いているのをハッカリと感じていた。
I suddenly gazed at my reflection in the convenience store window glass I had just come out of. I felt that my hands and legs existed for the sake of the convenience store, and the image of myself inside the glass made me feel like a meaningful being for the first time.
"Welcome to the store!" I blurted out.
I remembered the glass from when I first met my newborn nephew at the hospital. From behind the glass, I could hear a bright voice that was remarkably similar to mine. Every cell in my body seemed to respond to the music echoing from behind the glass, and I could feel them wriggling beneath my skin.
