電話の向こうで義妹の声がひっくり返り、私は丁寧に説明した。

「ほら、私たちって動物だから、増えた方がいいじゃないですか。私と白羽さんも、交尾をどんどんして、人類を繁栄るさせるのに努力した方がいいと思いますか？」

しばらく何の音もせず、ひょっとしたら電話が切れてしまったのか思ったがぶわあ、と、携帯から生ぬるい空気が吐きだれてきそうなほうど、大きな溜息の音がした。

「勘弁してくださいよ。。。バイトと無職で子供作ってどうするんですか。ほんとにやめてください。あんたらみたいな遺伝子残さないでください、それが一番人類のためですんで」

「あ、そうですか」

「その腐った遺伝子、寿命まで一人で抱えて、死ぬとき店国に持って行って、この世界には一欠かけらも残さないでください、ほんとに」

"Um, I'd like to ask something. Is it better for humanity if we have children?"

"は？"

"Huh?"

On the other end of the phone, her voice became agitated, and I explained carefully.

"ほら、私たちって動物だから、増えた方がいいじゃないですか。私と白羽さんも、交尾をどんどんして、人類を繁栄させるのに努力した方がいいと思いますか？"

"Well, you see, we're animals, so isn't it better to increase in number? Don't you think that people like me and Shiraha-san should keep mating and making an effort to ensure the prosperity of humanity?"

For a while, there was no response, and I thought the call might have been disconnected. But then, from the phone, there was a sigh, as if warm air was being exhaled, and it sounded like a deep, heavy sigh.

"勘弁してくださいよ。。。バイトと無職で子供作ってどうするんですか。ほんとにやめてください。あんたらみたいな遺伝子残さないでください、それが一番人類のためですんで"

"Please spare me... What's the point of having children when you're just a part-time worker and unemployed? Seriously, please stop. Don't leave behind genes like yours; that's what's best for humanity."

"あ、そうですか"

"Oh, is that so?"

"その腐った遺伝子、寿命まで一人で抱えて、死ぬとき天国に持って行って、この世界には一欠かけらも残さないでください、ほんとに"

"Those rotten genes, carry them all the way to your life's end, and when you die, take them to the grave, leaving not a single piece in this world, please, really."
