「あの、今日は食欲がないんで、白羽さん、何か勝手に食べていてくれませんか」
「ええ？まあ、いいですけど」
自分で買いに行くのが億劫なのか、白羽さんは少し不満げだったが、千円札を渡すと静かになった。
その夜、私は布団に張っていも眠ることができず、起き上がって部屋着のままベランダに出す。
今までなら、明日の前に寝ていなければいけない時間だ、コンビニのために身体を整えようと思うとすぐ寝ることができたのに、今の私は何のために眠ればいいのかすらわからなかった。
洗濯物は部屋干しがほとんどなので、ベランダは汚れていて、窓もカビていた。
私は部屋着が汚れるのも構わず、ベランダに座り込んだ。
ふと窓がらす越しに部屋の中の時計を見ると夜中の３時だった。
今は夜勤の休憩がまわっている時間だろうか。ダットくんと、先週から入った、経験者の大学生の柴崎くんが、休憩としながら、ワォークンの補充を始めている頃だろう。
こんな時間に眠らずにいるのは久しぶりのことだった。

"Um, I don't have an appetite today, so Shiraha-san, would you mind eating something on your own?"
「ええ？まあ、いいでけど」
"Sure? Well, okay."
自分で買いに行くのが億劫なのか、白羽さんは少し不満げだったが、千円札を渡すと静かになった。
"Is it too much trouble to go by yourself?" Shiraha-san seemed a bit reluctant, but when I gave him a thousand yen, he fell silent.
その夜、私は布団に張っていも眠ることができず、起き上がって部屋着のままベランダに出た。
That night, I couldn't sleep in my futon and ended up getting up and going out onto the balcony in my pijama.
今までなら、明日の前に寝ていなければいけない時間だ、コンビニのために身体を整えようと思うとすぐ寝ることができたのに、今の私は何のために眠ればいいのかすらわからなかった。
In the past, I could easily fall asleep as soon as I thought about getting my body ready for work at the convenience store, knowing that I had to sleep before tomorrow. But now, I didn't even know why I should sleep.
洗濯物は部屋干しがほとんどなので、ベランダは汚れていて、窓もカビていた。
Most of my laundry was hung inside my room, so the balcony was dirty, and the windows had grown mold.
私は部屋着が汚れるのも構わず、ベランダに座り込んだ。
Without minding that my room clothes would get dirty, I sat down on the balcony.

Suddenly, I looked at the clock inside my room through the window, and it was 3:00 in the middle of the night.

Is it the time for the night shift break now? Would Tat-kun and the experienced university student Shibasaki-kun, who joined last week, be replenishing the walkin fridge while taking a break?

I thought to myself: "It had been a long time since I stayed awake at such an hour."
