私は気が重かった。時計を見ると、夜の７時だった。いつもは、仕事をしちないときでも、私の身体はコンビニエンストアと繋がっていた。今は夕方のパック飲料の補充の時間、今は夜の雑貨が届いて夜勤が検品を始めた時間、今は床清掃の時間、いつも、時計を見れば店の光景が浮かんでいた。
今はちょうど、夕勤の沢口さんが来週の新商品のPOPを書いて、牧村くんがカップラーメンの補充をしている時間だろう。それなのに、自分はもうその時間の流れから取り残されてしまったのだと思った。
部屋の中には白羽さんの声や冷蔵庫の音、様々な音が浮かんでいるのに、私の耳は静寂しか聴いてなかった。私を満たしていたコンビニの音が身体から消えていた。私は世界から切断されていた。
「やっぱりコンビニバイトじゃ僕を養うには不安定だからなあ。無職とバイトだと無職の僕の方が責められちゃうし、縄文時代から抜け出せない連中は、すぐに男に文句を言うんだ。でも古倉さんさえ定職につけば、僕はそう被害をもう受けなくて済みますし、古倉さんのためにもなるし、一石二鳥ですよね！」

"I felt a heavy burden on my mind. When I looked at the clock, it was 7:00 in the evening. Normally, even when I wasn't working, my body remained connected to the convenience store. Right now, it was the time for replenishing evening pack drinks, the time when the night shift started inspecting evening goods, the time for floor cleaning. Whenever I looked at the clock, I could envision the scenes at the store."

"Right now, it was probably the time when evening shift employee Sawaguchi-san was writing the POP for next week's new products, and Makimura-kun was replenishing cup ramen. Yet, I felt that I had already been left behind by the flow of that time."

While various sounds like Shiraha-san's voice and the refrigerator hum filled the room, my ears only heard silence. The sounds of the convenience store that used to fill me were gone from my body. I felt disconnected from the world.

"After all, working at a convenience store is unstable when it comes to supporting us. If it's between being unemployed and having a part-time job, the unemployed side is blamed, and those who can't escape from the Jomon period quickly complain about men. But if you can find a stable job, then I won't have to suffer any more, and it will benefit you as as well. It's a win-win situation!"
