「それは、苦しいですね」
「あんたの子宮だってね、ムラのものなんですよ。使い物にならないから見向きもされないだけだ。僕は一世何もしたくない。一生、死ぬまで、誰にも干渉されずにただ息をしていた。それだけを望んでいるんだ。」
白羽さんは祈るように、両手を組み合わせた。
私は、白羽さんの存在が自分にとって有益かどうか考えていた。母は妹も、そして私も、治らない私に渡れはじめていた。変化が訪ねるなら、悪くても良くても今よりマシなような気がした。
「私には白羽さんほどの苦しみはないかもしれませんが、今のままだとコンビニで働きづらいのも事実です。新しい店長に、いつも、なんでバイトしかしたことないのか聞かれるし、言い訳をしないと不審がらレテしまうんですよね。ちょっうど、いい言い訳を探していたところではあったんです。白羽さんがそれなのかは知りませんが」
「僕さえここにいれば世間は納得しますよ。あなたにとってメリットしかない取引だ」
「それは、苦しいですね」
"That must be tough, isn't it?"

"Even your uterus, it's considered the property of the community, you know. It's just that it's of no use, so nobody pays any attention to it. I don't want to do anything in this lifetime. I just want to breathe without interference until I die."

"I was contemplating whether Shiraha-san's presence would be beneficial for me. My mother, my sister, and even I had started to hand over the incurable me. If change were to come, I felt it might be better, for better or worse, than it is now."

"I might not have suffered as much as Shiraha-san, but the fact is, it's difficult for me to work at the convenience store as it is now. The new manager always asks why I've only done part-time work, and if I don't have an excuse, they become suspicious. I was actually looking for a good excuse. I don't know if Shiraha-san is that excuse."
「僕さえここにいれば世間は納得しますよ。あなたにとってメリットしかない取引だ」
"As long as I'm here, society will be satisfied. It's a deal that brings nothing but benefits to you."
