Oklahoma Archery

WOW, This conversation has been on my radar from day one of this podcast. We are talking with Tom Stevenson. He is the President of Stevenson Analytics and the developer of the ArcheryPath Performance Analytics & Equipment Tuning Optimization platform, after of over 50 years of experience in Olympic Recurve archery. He holds a BS in Engineering and an MBA in Entrepreneurship. He has spent over 30 years in software development and engineering consulting, working with such companies as Boeing, Allied Signal, and Easton. Along with George Tekmitchov, he was part of the design team that developed the Easton X10 arrow shaft. He has served as President of USA Archery, a USOC board member, and a board member for the NAA Foundation. As a competitive archer he has represented the USA internationally, has been on the USAT many times as a collegiate, senior and as a Master. He has won over 20 national championships during his competitive career. He is a Level IV NTS coach and currently coaches the Oklahoma Storm JOAD Team and has worked with many top archers to optimize their equipment to shoot as well as they do. This conversation should have been a 10 part show. Rick has been winning national titles in archery since the 1960's. He is very methodical in his way of tuning. We cover that very thing along with digging up some gold nuggets he drops on us. Also we need to let everyone know that The Oklahoma Storm Joad team will be hosting open tryouts for the team. They only allow a limited number of team members so that each shooter gets proper coaching. Tryouts will be from 3-5pm on October 21st at H&H shooting Sports. Today we invited Wendell Souza on the show. Wendell has been shooting a very high level national and regionally. He holds record high scores in CA and the NFAA. He also host his own podcast called Archery Unfiltered (go check it out also, but after you listen to us). The three of geek out on tuning, shot activation, practice routines, and we even let Neil give us a lesson on moving in the stand from his recent big buck kill.

Welcome shooters, we get a chance to talk with Bryn Chapman. The owner of Okie-Land Bowhunters Pro Shop and Indoor Range. He is one of the fastest growing shops in the OKC metro area. Just before archery season kicks off we get a little time to chat. Bryn also drops a bomb shell and lets our podcast announce some big news.

Neil and Myself are nerding out on indoors setups while our guest Chris Sanders is making his way to talk with us. Our conversation sounds like 3 guys setting at the range just talking. This was so much fun chatting up Chris' target setup and his way of thinking when he sets up his equipment and the customers he works with at Okie Land Bowhunters.

Neil recaps his travels for the last couple weeks. He rolled into North Houston to shoot the State 900 and the State marked 3D. Followed that up the next weekend up in South Dakota at the NFAA Headquarters/Easton Foundation building shooting 2 national shoots. We finish off the show talking about arrow clocking and what I learned when I changed vanes and studying the amount of rotations occurring with a 20 yard shot.

Shiloh Butts is our guest today. He is very well know in the traditional shooting world. His passion is longbow shooting. This man has traveled and shot for Team USA and placed in the hundreds of tournaments. Don't think we are sticking with shooting foam. He is a very accomplished hunter. He gives us some pointers on newcomers getting into the trad world.

It is our pleasure to bring on the newly crowned ASA Classic Senior Know Pro winner 2023, Chad Hilburn. We jump right into questions about how his week started once in Cullman AL. We can't leave out asking about his equipment and even the shoot down itself. Listen all the way to the end because I catch him off guard with some questions that are intended so you can get to know Chad off the range.

Neil recaps this last weekend in Alabama for the ASA Classic. We explain to new comers what to expect at one of these events, the new target rigs he seen, the layout, and the weather. We always recap upcoming local shoots. Plenty of little things to listen too.

We talk with Jereme Budgick and Bryan Thomas from "Shot the 3D Experience". It is going to be a 3D shoot in Hugo OK August 19th and 20th. This is like no other shoot in the state. If you'r going to bow hunt this year you need to see where you really are setting before you draw down on a live animal. After this shoot you will know what you need to work on before the opening weekend. They will have tons of sponsorship giveaways, novelty shoots, and food on site.

We talk with Chris Hammond. He has been a Mathews Pro Shooter for several years. His rookie year in the Pro ranks he won Rookie Shooter of the Year. Has made the podium since and recently at the ASA he was once again in the shoot off. We hit him with questions about his passion for hunting, life, practice routine, and his current shooting setup. I'm sure you can find a nugget of gold in this podcast.

For our 2nd show we asked Chris Edwards to come and tell us about himself, his equipment, archery goals, and the team aspect for his school. We go over local news, shoots, shops, even our bow setups.
