One of the most universal spiritual experiences that human beings have is that of prayer. Even the proverbial "atheist in a foxhole" may cry out to God in a time of crisis. Prayers are offered at public gatherings, such as in a church service, or even in civic or political meetings. A saintly Christian mother may pray daily for a wayward child.
