Occasional Randomness #53 - Daredevil: Born Again S2E4-6

Apr 30, 20261h 1m

Ep 75Occasional Randomness #52 - Daredevil: Born Again S2E1-3

We're back in Hell's Kitchen, well more accurately New York City, as we start our discussion of Daredevil: Born Again season 2, episodes 1 - 3. Spoiler Alert: We are loving it so far. Which really isn't a spoiler if you've listened to us before. We absolutely love both the Netflix and Disney Daredevil seasons. Season 2 jumps right back into the thick of things, with the resistance to Mayor Kingpin, and keeps you glued to each scene. And we finally have a comics accurate MCU TV costume for ol' horn-head. It's a game of cat-and-mouse as DD and team try to expose Fisk's operations while trying to stay out of the clutches of the AVTF. Ep 74Occasional Randomness #51 - We Hate Cliffhangers (Farscape S4E22: Bad Timing)

To quote another famous science fiction ending - "This is the end, but the moment has been prepared for." Eric and Jason discuss the series finale of Farscape - Season 4: Bad Timing. Having seen this when it originally aired, Eric has been waiting five years - since the start of this podcast - to see how Jason would react to that ending... and yeah, it was worth the wait. While we eventually got the closure we deserved 18 months later with The Peacekeeper Wars, the original 2003 cliffhanger left fans reeling for a long time. We wrap up this episode by discussing our Best and Worst episodes of Season 4. NOTE: We are taking a brief break from the Uncharted Territories! Next time, we're heading to New York City for Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. Stay tuned - we'll be back for the Peacekeeper Wars soon! Ep 73Occasional Randomness #50 - Stop and Smell the Crystherium (Farscape S4E21: La Bomba)

John drops a bomb on some Scarrans, while Sikozu is the bomb for others. Our final multipart story of the Farscape regular series wraps up with Season 4, Episode 21: "We're So Screwed, Part 3: La Bomba." We finally get answers to our questions from last week, but with only one episode left in the regular series (not counting The Peacekeeper Wars), the clock is ticking. We break down Grayza’s ultimate meltdown as her ambitions crumble, Sikozu’s "fiery" reveal, and that ending where everyone gets some quality time... except, unfortunately, for John and Aeryn. One more to go... awwww... :( Watch Farscape on Shout!TV Listen to our other episodes on our website -- https://occasionalrandomness.podbean.com/ Subscribe to our YouTube Channel -- https://www.youtube.com/@occasionalrandomness Follow us on X (Twitter) -- https://x.com/OccasionalRND Follow us on Bluesky -- https://bsky.app/profile/occasionalrnd.bsky.social Follow us on Facebook -- https://www.facebook.com/occasionalrandomnesspodcast/

Ep 72Occasional Randomness #49 - Secret Agents Everywhere (Farscape S4E20)

Our final multipart story of the Farscape regular series jumps into high gear with Season 4, episode 20, We're So Screwed, Part 2: Hot to Katratzi. This one has tons of plot twists, character twists and a nice gun battle at the end. And we have a surprise guest star -- Stark. And he's quite happy to help torture Scorpius for the Scarrans. Crichton crashes the Scarran/Peacekeeper "peace" conference and offers wormhole tech to the highest bidder. Let the scheming and backstabbing commence! Ep 71Occasional Randomness #48 - The One Where Rygel Becomes Patient Zero (Farscape S4E19)

It's our final multipart story of the Farscape series (not counting the Peacekeeper Wars mini-series). Season 4, episode 19, We're So Screwed, Part 1: Fetal Attraction. And as always, Farscape delivers a great start to their multiparter. One filled with action, humor, crew drama and surprise plot twists galore! And a reunion between John Crichton and a new and improved "old friend"... 2.0. Surprisingly their plans go pretty well this time around, with a few impromptu changes which cost a few lives of those around them, much to Noranti's dismay. They do rescue Aeryn but Scorpius is captured by the Scarrans. Oh well, they don't need him, they can just leave and not try to rescue Scorpy... or can they? Ep 70Occasional Randomness #47 - Frell You Jobu, I Do It Myself (Farscape S4E18)

We pick up right where the last episode of Farscape ended, with season 4, episode 18, Prayer. Where we learn all about what Aeryn's been going through since she was captured; and John and Scorpius go for a ride... back to that "Bizarro" Moya mashup from several episodes ago. Usually Jason and Eric are on the same page with episodes, but this time Jason liked it more. Eric didn't connect with the majority of the supporting characters and didn't think most of the plotlines worked for him. Although they did both think Aeryn's crisis of faith reminded them of Pedro Cerrano from the movie Major League. But even when Farscape has an "average" episode, there are still some good things to take away from it and good things to look forward to as the final season wraps up. Ep 69Occasional Randomness #46 - It's Not a Clip Show (Farscape S4E17)

So your girlfriend and mother of your unborn child has been captured by your enemies, what are you going to do about it? In John Crichton's case, go watch some TV show with clips of your return to Earth and what various panelists think of your alien companions. This time around, we discuss Farscape season 4, episode 17, A Constellation of Doubt. And in between parts of the show, Crichton tries to remember where he heard about the secret Scarran base, Katratzi, where Aeryn is being held. And he makes a startling offer to our old buddy Scorpius. Ep 68Occasional Randomness #45 - Nothing to See Here, Please Disperse (Farscape S4E16)

This time around we do a girls' trip episode of Farscape, with season 4, episode 16, Bringing Home the Beacon. And unlike the boy's trip last time, this is all just shopping, spa treatments and no other drama whatsoever. Who are we kidding, this is Farscape, so of course there's drama! The girls run into both Grayza and Scarrans while trying to get some equipment for Moya and have to deal with them while waiting for their purchase. But they aren't there for our crew, they're here to secretly negotiate a peace treaty. I'm sure nothing will go wrong with that and no one from our crew will be caught or anything... Ep 67Occasional Randomness #44 - Mind Games (Farscape S4E15)

The boys get some good bonding time away from Moya and the girls by going to mental arts training camp. Oh, who are we kidding, this is Farscape we're talking about. While at "camp", Rygel almost gets brain damage, John gets stuck in a cage that's slowly heating up and D'Argo comes face to face with his wife's murderer, her brother Macton. Macton is going to prove to D'Argo that it was D'Argo who killed her in a fit of hyper-rage, not him. Let the mind games begin! Ep 66Occasional Randomness #43 - Once Bitten, Twice Fly (Farscape S4E14)

We get closer and closer to the end of the final Farscape season with a review of season 4, episode 14, Twice Shy. The crew is back in Tormented Space after the last couple of episodes on Earth. They pick up some star charts from some traders but also pick up what appears to be a woman used by the traders as a slave. And, as you have come to know Farscape by now, things never go well when the crew picks up strangers. Their new passenger is not what she seems and they have to deal with her before she kills them all. Plus we learn more about both Scorpius' and John's hidden agendas towards each other and what that means for John and Aeryn's relationship. Ep 65Occasional Randomness #42 - Merry Frelling Christmas! (Farscape S4E13)

We finish our latest trilogy of Farscape episdoes with season 4, episode 13, Terra Firma. Earth finally finds out we're not alone in the universe. John Crichton and his father, Jack, argue over whether to share all the alien technology and information with the rest of the Earth or not. John is slow rolling how much the Earth military and scientists get to figure out. Even from his childhood friend and fellow Farscape Project member, DK. Aeryn meets the rest of John's family but is torn over staying for Christmas or leaving over her feelings for John. And John starts to come around and acknowledge those feelings... before being attacked by the Skreeth that Grayza hid aboard Moya last episode. All this plus the girls go on a shopping spree! Ep 64Occasional Randomness #41 - Yes... No... Bite Me (Farscape S4E12)

We finally get back to our journey through Farscape now that there's a lull in the new Marvel and Star Wars shows. We pick up with season 4, episode 12 - Kansas. We last left with a cliffhanger of Crichton floating in space above Earth, with only the hard way to get down. Spoiler, he does with a little help from his friends. Then he has to do his own version of Quantum Leap and Back to the Future to prevent his dad from joining the ill-fated Space Shuttle Challenger mission or else the future will be forever changed. And along the way, the rest of the crew get to experience life on Earth, Halloween and candy. Lots and lots of candy. Ep 63Occasional Randomness #40 - What About the Bothans? (Andor S2E10-12)

We finish our review of Star Wars: Andor with season 2 -- episodes 10 - 12. As we all guessed, this series ends right where the Rogue One movie starts. But before that, we tie up all the loose ends for the characters we've come to love over the last two seasons. We weren't really surprised at where they ended up for the most part. Although we do have some great ideas for future books or shows for some of them. K2-SO stole the show for one of us (Eric) while Kleya's "Mission: Impossible" hospital scenes was another's favorite (Jason). And we rank where Andor fits within our list of favorite Star Wars TV shows. Hint: it's way up there; we wish they could have kept this show going. And a final disclaimer: No Bothans were harmed in the making of this podcast. They'll get their turn later. Ep 62Occasional Randomness #39 - Our Man Cassian (Andor S2E7-9)

We continue going year by year through Star Wars: Andor with season 2 -- episodes 7 - 9. The plots and machinations building up all season are finally coming to fruition. It's action galore now as we head closer and closer to where Rogue One starts. The Empire finally takes control of Ghorman and puts down the rebels there. While we both saw that coming, we both did not see coming what happened to one of our main characters who's been with us since season 1. Cassian picks up his new "little" droid buddy, K2-SO. Then we have our big political thriller where Mon Mothma lays it all on the table and officially condemns the Empire and joins the Rebel Alliance. And we offer up some suggestions on future Star Wars shows they could do in keeping with the spy / espionage theme of Andor. Ep 61Occasional Randomness #38 - Cassian and Friends (Andor S2E4-6)

After some real world delays and other things, we're back! We continue going year by year through Star Wars: Andor with chapter 2 -- episodes 4 - 6. We get the fun of seeing competing spies with both Syril and Cassian doing their best James Bond 007 impersonations on Ghorman. And our big action piece this time around is a heist gone mostly right, with deadly consequences we did not foresee. We get a lesson in art appreciation and a debate about war between Krennic and Mon Mothma. And finally some home life and house cleaning with Cassian and Bix on Coruscant. Ep 60Occasional Randomness #37 - The Confusion Continues (Andor S2E1-3)

Eric and Jason move on from Marvel shows (see the last few podcasts) and on to Star Wars as Disney+ has started their epic flood of episodes for the second, and last, season of Star Wars: Andor. It's a good thing Disney+ released a recap of season one as it's been three years since that came out. Although that didn't help us remember most of the supporting characters names. Nor remember all the details around Mon Mothma's complicated Rebellion financing scheme. However, that did not stop our enjoyment of episodes 1 - 3. We loved all the wedding ceremony details for Mon's daughter, what's-her-name, and her future husband, what's-his-name. The Empire is doing more secret projects that will probably help fuel the Rebellion's popularity. Syril's mom gets put in her place by Dedra. Cassian has a slight layover on his TIE fighter heist and deals with rebels who would rather argue amongst themselves and play Space Rock, Paper, Scissors. And Cassian's friends almost get rounded up by Imperials. We move ever onward towards Rogue One and can't wait to see where this final season ends towards that. Ep 59Occasional Randomness #36 - No More Vigilantes (Daredevil: Born Again S1E7-9)

This time around we wrap up season 1 of Daredevil: Born Again with episodes 7 - 9. We absolutely loved this series, as you can probably tell from our prior podcasts, and the ending of season 1 doesn't disappoint us. Anytime you combine two of the characters we love, Daredevil and The Punisher, what's not to love? We were a little sad that Muse didn't have more to do in this but we get more of Fisk and his grand plans for him and Vanessa. We talk about where we think season 2 might go, and who else Team Daredevil might recruit to help stop Fisk and the Anti-Vigilante Task Force (a Defenders reunion anyone?), and what the future Special Presentation show with The Punisher might be. Ep 58Occasional Randomness #35 - Secret Lairs All The Way Down (Daredevil: Born Again S1E4-6)

We continue through the amazing season 1 of Daredevil: Born Again with episodes 4 - 6. We're obviously still enjoying it as you might guess. And it only took almost 5 more episodes before we got to see Matt suit up in costume again. We guess you can only keep a hero down for so long before they have to finally take action. We discuss Fisk's ultimate motives being mayor and enjoy him trying to navigate his new politicial world. We can't wait for the showdown with the Anti-Vigilante Task Force and how many vigilantes they might be up against. Cameos, anyone? And what is it with secret lairs? Everyone seems to have one. Ep 57Occasional Randomness #34 - Mystic Amulets Get No Respect (Daredevil: Born Again S1E1-3)

This time around we talk about the first third of the new Marvel Disney+ series, Daredevil: Born Again, episodes 1 - 3. We both thought Daredevil was the best of the old Netflix Marvel shows and are very excited about ol' Hornhead being back for "season 4" on Disney+. Although we have some strong words to say about those opening scenes. And then we talk about where we think this season is going. What's Mayor Fisk really up to, who's really in charge of NYC's criminal empire, and when will the Punisher sue the NYPD for copyright infringement? Ep 56Occasional Randomness #33 - Timey Wimey Stuff And Pirates (Farscape S4E11, Skeleton Crew S1E5-8)

First up in our ongoing watch of Farscape -- season 4, episode 11 - Unrealized Reality. Crichton gets sucked down a wormhole and meets another of the mysterious Ancients. This one explains everything you ever wanted to know about wormholes, and some stuff we bet Crichton didn't want to know. We loved all the alternate realities Crichton gets thrown into, which just keep getting more wild and wacky. Then we finish the second half of season 1 of Star Wars, Skeleton Crew -- episodes 5-8. We loved the first half of the season and the rest of the season did not disappoint us either. A nice 'coming of age' story set in the Star Wars Universe. And pirates! Ep 55Occasional Randomness - Farscape Flashback #22 - Chekhov's Halitosis (Farscape S2E21-22)

While Jason and I deal with colds, work and other IRL stuff, enjoy our final episode of Farscape Flashbacks! Our reposting of our Farscape season one and two podcasts that we did on another podcasting network so you can more easily listen to them here. Here's our "original" show notes for this episode. Enjoy and we'll see you soon with new episodes! Eric and Jason close out season two of Farscape with a pair of episodes reviews and then the season two review, lowlights and highlights. First up, Liars, Guns and Money (Part 3): Plan B. Instead of using their newly obtained mercenaries to rescue D’Argo’s son, now they’re off to rescue Crichton from Scorpius’ clutches. But don’t worry, Stark has another foolproof plan… ah, frell that, it’s time for a guns blazing, frontal assault! They manage to rescue Crichton, but at what cost? Finally, Die Me, Dichotomy, the (mostly) exciting season two cliffhanger. The crew locates a healer who can both heal Moya and get the neural chip out of Crichton’s head. But the chip isn’t having any of that and does its best to get itself, and Crichton, back to Scorpius. And then some other things happen that we’d like to forget about, before the exciting cliffhanger ending that sets up season three. Ep 54Occasional Randomness #32 - Witches and Pirates and Kids, Oh My! (Agatha All Along S1E4-6, Skeleton Crew S1E1-4)

We're staying inside the Disney+ ecosystem this week. We wrap up season 1 of Agatha All Along, with episodes 7 - 9. Did we think they brought the season home on a good note, ready for whatever comes next? Mostly. Did Jason ever come to like any of the characters? Well... But overall, we did like it and we'll see if anything comes after it to continue where they leave us at the end of the Witches' Road. Then we cover the first half of season 1 of the latest live action Star Wars, Skeleton Crew, episodes 1 - 4. This one we're completely invested in. We love the characters, setting and theme. And we get to see Star Wars' version of suburban life. It's definitely your Young Adult series (with pirates!) but has something for every age group. We speculate what the mysterious treasure of At Attin is as well as life based around aptitude tests. Ep 53Occasional Randomness #31 - Girl Power! (Farscape S4E10, Agatha All Along S1E4-6)

Next up through the final season of Farscape, we cover season 4, episode 10 - Coup by Clam. And yes, it is about a coup and by using clams. So, good on ya Farscape writer for making a very descriptive episode title. While orbiting a planet where they found some tech to help Moya survive Tormeted Space, the crew eat the aforementioned clams and become poisoned. It's all a shakedown plan by a doctor who will give them the cure in exchange for lots of money. But of course that plan goes off the rails and the crew needs to get the cure themselves before they all die. Then we discuss the second 3 episodes of the latest Disney+ Marvel series, Agatha All Along, episodes 4 to 6. We continue to love the various trials the coven goes through but think the supporting characters could be more interesting. And one of the ones they do make more interesting, they kill off... maybe. But we do get to learn who the mysterious Teen really is... and it's someone we thought it was all along. Ep 52Occasional Randomness #30 - Bribing and Vibing (Farscape S4E09, Agatha All Along S1E1-3)

This time around Eric and Jason discuss Farscape season 4, episode 9 - A Prefect Murder. We both didn't think the different points of view story method worked on this one. We thought it would have been better off directed like a normal episode. But we did agree on the strongest plotline and the great John and Aeryn scenes. Then we discuss the first 3 episodes of the latest Disney+ Marvel series, Agatha All Along. We liked the overall storyline so far and the way they threw everyone a curve with the opening episode. We hope some of the characters get more developed as the series continues, but we're excited to see where it goes. And we get to geek out for a bit on Marvel magical characters from the comics and upcoming Disney Marvel and Star Wars shows. Ep 51Occasional Randomness - Farscape Flashback #21-Relax, It's All Part of the Plan (Farscape S2E19-20)

Welcome to the next episode of Farscape Flashbacks! Our reposting of our Farscape season one and two podcasts that we did on another podcasting network so you can more easily listen to them here. Here's our "original" show notes for this episode. Enjoy! Eric and Jason review the first two parts of Farscape’s second ever three part storyline, "Liars, Guns and Money". And during all that, wander off on tangents about Star Wars, the A-Team and past episodes of this here podcast. First up, Part 1 - A Not So Simple Plan. Which is pretty much as advertised. Stark (hey, isn’t he dead?) has a not so simple plan to steal enough money to buy D’Argo’s son Jothee from the slavers holding him captive. With such a complicated plan, it goes off without any issues at all. No… who are we kidding? Of course not. The crew must deal with a heavily secured depository, its leader, and our old buddy Scorpius to get what they need. Finally, Part 2 - With Friends Like These… After learning that all their efforts last time weren’t quite good enough, this time it’s Crichton who comes up with his own somewhat simpler plan to free Jothee. But it involves recruiting several people we met in season one who they didn’t leave on the best of terms with. It goes better than you’d expect, but there’s yet another complication that might make their hard work all for naught. And Crichton has to make a hard choice… Listen to our other Farscape episodes on our website -- https://occasionalrandomness.podbean.com/ Subscribe to our YouTube Channel -- https://www.youtube.com/@occasionalrandomness Follow us on X (Twitter) -- https://twitter.com/OccasionalRND Follow us on Facebook -- https://www.facebook.com/occasionalrandomnesspodcast/

Ep 50Occasional Randomness - Farscape Flashback #20 - I'm Nobody's Puppet! (Farscape S2E17-18)

Welcome to the next episode of Farscape Flashbacks! Our reposting of our Farscape season one and two podcasts that we did on another podcasting network so you can more easily listen to them here. Here's our "original" show notes for this episode. Enjoy! Eric and Jason have been gone for a little while due to real life, but we’re back with two above average episodes to make up for it. First up, The Ugly Truth, where Crais tries to get Moya’s crew to help him disarm Talyn. But things don’t go according to plan and the crew has to recount, from each of their perspectives, what went wrong or else face summary execution. Finally, A Clockwork Nebari, where Chiana learns some truths, some ugly, some not-so-ugly, about her people and her brother. Meanwhile the crew is mentally cleansed by the aforementioned Nebari and have to snap out of it if they’re going to get away. Ep 49Occasional Randomness #29 - It's a Small World After All (Farscape S4E08)

We're more than a third of the way through Farscape season 4. In this one, season 4, episode 8 - I Shrink, Therefore I Am, most of the crew have been captured by bounty hunters in really cool armor. And it's up to Crichton, with some assistance by our newly helpful crewmate Scorpius, to rescue them. To make things worse, the hunters shrink all the crew and keep them in containers inside their armor so that Crichton can't risk harming them. Time for some cunning plans and snide comments. You know, the usual Farscape plan. What could possibly go wrong? Ep 48Occasional Randomness #28 - Stark Trek (Farscape S4E07)

This time around, we review Farscape season 4, episode 7 - John Quixote. Not that you would think of Don Quixote from practically anything in this episode... Anyway... Chiana pulls Crichton into a VR game that quickly goes off the rails. Apparently Stark has it out for Crichton because of Zhaan's death last season and has made up a VR game to trap Crichton and make him suffer. But things don't work out the way Stark probably wanted. There's Easter eggs and cameos galore in this one, especially the surprise guest star at the end. A live action version of the animated Revenging Angel episode from last season. Kind of. Ep 47Occasional Randomness #27 - Feed Me Seymour! (Farscape S4E06)

Only the one episode of Farscape this time around as we're waiting for the next Marvel or Star Wars shows to premiere. This time, Farscape season 4, episode 6 - Natural Election. Aeryn and Crichton are about to have "the talk" about Aeryn's baby but just as they start Moya is rocked by a collision and explosions. Seems she's covered in some kind of space plant that begins digesting her. The crew rush to get rid of the plant before Moya is destroyed, with their new bestest buddy Scorpius even lending a hand. All this and also the crew picks a captain, with some surprising votes being cast. Ep 46Occasional Randomness #26 - Promises Made / Promises Broken (Farscape S4E05 - The Acolyte S1E5-8)

We continue our trip through the final season of Farscape with season 4, episode 5 - Promises. The crew finally are reunited (and it feels so good) with Moya, Pilot and Aeryn. And a not-so-welcome new addition to our crew. But Aeryn's not feeling all that well and the person who made her that way drops by for some revenge. Then we finish our review and discussion of the last half of season 1 of Star Wars: The Acolyte with episodes 5 - 8. We liked the series overall, giving it 7 out of 8 stars (one episode really didn't go over well with us). We absolutely loved the intricate and wild lightsaber battles in these episodes. And loved speculating about the nature of Jedi vs. Sith, the Rule of Two and our creepy lurker buddy Darth Plagueis. Ep 45Occasional Randomness #25 - Will the Real Tarkans Please Stand Up? (Farscape S4E04- The Acolyte S1E1-4)

Episode #25! Not that we planned anything for this milestone, but we do have a larger than normal sized episode this time around. First up, Farscape season 4, episode 4 - Lava's a Many Splendored Thing. Still no sign of Aeryn (maybe next time). The crew lands on a barren planet covered in, you guessed it, lava, in search of food. Unfortunately things go about as well as you'd expect and they get trapped by a group of thieves whom Noranti mistakes as friendly freedom fighters. Cue the hijinks! And then after Farscape, we recap and discuss the first four episodes of the latest Star Wars live action show on Disney+, The Acolyte. Despite the Internet kerfuffle and review bombing of the early episodes, we both liked it. We have some ideas on what might have been a more interesting premise for the main antagonist(s), but overall, we like the mystery they've set up so far. And one of us has some wild theories who the dark master behind things could be. Ep 44Occasional Randomness #24 - Is That How Magnetics Really Works? (Farscape S4E03 - Tales of the Empire)

We wrap up the first multipart story of season 4 of Farscape - episode 3, What Was Lost (Part 2): Resurrection. We were not entirely impressed with part one, so see if we think they bring it home in part two and come to a satisfying conclusion. We do get to continue learning more about our new villain, Commandant Grayza. And they do give us some cliffhangers, or unresolved plot points at least, to chew on and hope they come back to them in the future. And then after Farscape, we briefly discuss the latest Star Wars shorts on Disney+, Tales of the Empire. We liked how they filled in the gaps with Morgan Elsbeth's life that led her to where we first saw her in The Mandalorian, and later in Ahsoka. And we also liked the 2nd part with what happened to Barriss Offee, former Jedi. Even though one of us forgot she even existed. Welcome to the next episode of Farscape Flashbacks! Our reposting of our Farscape season one and two podcasts that we did on another podcasting network so you can more easily listen to them here. Here's our "original" show notes for this episode. Enjoy! This time we review two really amazing episodes. Granted, in the grand scheme of things, they didn’t really happen but they’re still amazing. First up, Won’t Get Fooled Again, where Crichton is back on Earth again. Or is he? This time it’s completely different… and just keeps getting crazier and crazier. And we also prove conclusively that the 2000’s line-up of the Guardians of the Galaxy is a complete rip-off (homage?) of Farscape. We wrap up with The Locket where the crew gets all timey-wimey inside a misty space bubble. Aeryn and Crichton are stranded on nearby planet that seems to only appear every 55 years while Moya and the rest of the crew never age. How can they all get reunited and back to their normal ages before it’s too late? And our old buddy Stark is back with some dire news for D’Argo. Ep 42Occasional Randomness #23 - Odd Beginnings, Thrilling Endings (Farscape S4E02 - Bad Batch S3E12-15)

We have our first multipart story of season 4 of Farscape. We review and discuss season 4, episode 2 - What Was Lost (Part 1): Sacrifice. Is it as good as the prior seasons' multiparters? Eric and Jason aren't sure. They both thought it was a confusing episode with parts both seen and unseen. Just what is going on with the Interions and this mysterious planet they're on? And what's up with the Old Woman and why's she acting all out of it? It does set things up though for the next episode where they hopefully will bring it home. But we at least get to learn more about our new Big Bad for the season, Commandant Grayza. And then after Farscape, it's on to the final third set of episodes of season 3 of Star Wars: The Bad Batch with episodes 12 - 15. It all comes to a satisfying conclusion. The Batch abduct ex-Admiral Rampart who helps them find where Omega is being held. And it's off to save her and the other prisoners at Mount Tantiss and stop Hemlock's research into Project Necromancer. And then we have not one, but two endings that would make excellent follow on series if they choose to do so. Welcome to the next episode of Farscape Flashbacks! Our reposting of our Farscape season one and two podcasts that we did on another podcasting network so you can more easily listen to them here. Here's our "original" show notes for this episode. Enjoy! We conclude the amazing three part Look at the Princess trilogy and then talk about a not-so-amazing story. First up, the exciting conclusion of the trilogy, Look at the Princess, Part 3: The Maltese Crichton. They manage to wrap up all the plotlines from the last two episodes in a very satisfying way. And start up a new plotline that will run for many more episodes. Everyone gets a happy ending. Well… almost. Finally, Beware of Dog gets a mixed review from both of us. We felt the main plot was a rehash of a couple of different season one episodes. However, we really loved the subplot about Crichton’s continuing interaction with visions of Scorpius that are becoming more and more frequent and intense. Ep 40Occasional Randomness #22 - More Friends, More Problems (Farscape S4E01 - Bad Batch S3E6-11)

We start the fourth and final season of Farscape with episode 1, Crichton Kicks. Crichton's going stir-crazy on another Leviathan after months alone, with only a DRD and aging Pilot for company. That gets interrupted by our soon to be newest crewmember, Sikozu, who arrives rather abruptly. And to make things worse, behind her are some really bad people who want to harvest parts of the Leviathan. But they do get some help as Chiana and Rygel show up... but not because they wanted to come back. So, let's see what cunning plan they come up with to save their new Leviathan home. And then after Farscape, it's on to the 2nd third of season 3 of Star Wars: The Bad Batch with episodes 6 - 11. There's lots of action and hints of things to come in the Star Wars Universe. We get to meet some old friends and enemies and end with the Batch's "Empire Strikes Back" moment where it all looks like it's falling apart and the Empire is winning. Ep 39Occasional Randomness - Farscape Flashback #17 - Sex, Lies and Farscape (Farscape S2E11-12)

Welcome to the next episode of Farscape Flashbacks! Our reposting of our Farscape season one and two podcasts that we did on another podcasting network so you can more easily listen to them here. Here's our "original" show notes for this episode. Enjoy! Eric and Jason watch the first two episodes of an amazing three part Farscape epic — "Look at the Princess". In "Part 1: A Kiss is but a Kiss", we enter a world full of political and social intrigue. Crichton can’t catch a break between Aeryn, who can’t commit more to their relationship, a princess to whom Crichton is the only one genetically compatible who needs a husband so her scheming brother doesn’t become ruler, and our old buddy Scorpius who wants to dissect Crichton’s brain. While those relationships are complicated, D’Argo and Chiana’s budding new relationship is getting more intense. In "Part 2: I Do, I Think", Crichton has no choice but to marry the princess to escape Scorpius. But there’s a downside to married royal life… he and the princess must spend the next 80 cycles as statues. What will the crew do to prevent that? What will all the scheming political envoys do to either prevent the marriage or make it succeed? Oh, and Zhaan and Pilot meet Moya’s creator. Ep 38Occasional Randomness #21 - Giant Sized Randomness! (Farscape S3E22 - Bad Batch S3E1-5)

It's a Giant Sized episode of Occasional Randomness! We've finally gotten to the end of season three of Farscape with the cliffhanger that's episode 22, Dog with Two Bones. The band is breaking up and going their separate ways, except for Crichton who comes to the realization that he can't take Aeryn back to Earth with him if he ever were to go home. But before he figures all that out, they have to dispose of Talyn's remains and deal with an insane Leviathan (not Moya). And who's that old woman on Moya chained in the kitchen? And what's she doing to Crichton? And is Aeryn "eating for two"? Then we discuss the highs and lows (or mehs) of season three. Spoiler, there were lots more highs than mehs. And if that wasn't enough, we also recap and discuss the first five episodes of the final season of Star Wars: The Bad Batch with season three, episodes 1 - 5. So sit back, relax and away we go... Ep 37Occasional Randomness #20 - Alas Poor Talyn (and Crais)... (Farscape S03E21)

It's our big 20th episode! We're almost at the end of season 3 of Farscape! So that means this time we cover the penultimate episode of the season, episode 21 - Into the Lion's Den, Part II: Wolf in Sheep's Clothing. This one picks up right where part one ended... which is good as that would be really odd if they started part two way after part one ended. John realizes their plans from the first part can't succeed, so he's got a new idea -- just blow up the whole Command Carrier. Blow it up real good. Oh, and also make sure most of the 50,000 crew, including children, escape. Not a problem, right? Crais has a suicidal idea but it will only work with a major distraction. Welcome to the next episode of Farscape Flashbacks! Our reposting of our Farscape season one and two podcasts that we did on another podcasting network so you can more easily listen to them here. Here's our "original" show notes for this episode. Enjoy! We’re almost halfway through season two! Farscape season two is in its groove as Eric and Jason review another two really good episodes (hey, spoilers!) First up, "Out of Their Minds", where an unfortunate side effect of a strange alien ship’s weapon and Moya’s defense screen causes the crew to switch bodies. Several times. We also learn that the DRD’s have more functions than we previously realized. Oh, and the attacking aliens have programmable vomit. Yes, you read that correctly. Finally, we review "My Three Crichtons", where the crew has to deal with the clones of Crichton Past and Crichton Future that some strange ball of energy created. Which Crichton winds up as the "Last Crichton Standing"? But where’s Uncle Charley? Ep 35Occasional Randomness #19 - It's a Trap? (Farscape S03E20)

Join us on our continuing journey through Farscape with season 3, episode 20, Into the Lion's Den, Part I: Lambs to the Slaughter. Farscape's multi-part episodes have never disappointed us. They're always full of action, drama and propel the series to further heights. And this one is no exception. In this one, Crichton is conflicted with whether to help their enemy Scorpius finish developing wormhole technology in his fight against the Scarrans. While the rest of the crew are given some things that could help them later if they really do get their criminal records wiped clean. Even Talyn might get fixed by the Peacekeepers. But not every Peacekeeper on the command carrier agress with Scorpius and some of them try to hurt or kill our heroes. Not to mention the debut of another Peacekeeper official, Commandant Grayza, who doesn't think highly of Scorpius' actions or of Crichton and has other ideas for dealing with the Scarrans. All of that comes to a head and leaves us wondering how our heroes will get out of this one. Guess we'll have to wait until next time to find out... Here's our "original" show notes for this episode. Enjoy! We continue our rewatch of season two. First up, "Home on the Remains", where Eric and Jason struggle with the pronunciations of the guest star character names. The crew is starving (what, no more crackers?) and go to a place Chiana used to call home to try to find some more food. Only to get caught up in the local power scheme of keeping people working in the mines to pay for food and protection from the mysterious, deadly creature that roams the mines. Finally, we review "Dream a Little Dream", where we learn what happened to the rest of the crew after the ending of season one while Aeryn, John and D’Argo were away from Moya. The crew winds up on a planet full of lawyers. And for once, it’s not Chiana or Rygel that you’d think would run afoul of the law… no, it’s Zhaan. Ep 33Occasional Randomness #18 - Deep Dish Deception (Farscape S03E19 - Loki S02E4-6)

We're back from the end of the year holidays and vacations! We continue on with our journey through Farscape with season 3, episode 19, I-Yensch, You-Yensch, and we finish Loki season 2 with episodes 4 through 6. On Farscape, we have a sort of an interlude story where the crew goes to con Scorpius into thinking Crichton wants to help him finish developing his wormhole technology before the Scarrans can finish theirs first. While their plan seems sound, the place they chose to have that meeting with Scorpius -- a nice, quiet, out of the way diner -- isn't very quiet afterall. But at least we now know what the episode title means. Meanwhile, Talyn's mental instability finally comes to a head and they need to handle that before Talyn destroys Moya. Then we complete our discussion of Loki season 2. We get to learn about the real lives our main characters led before working for the TVA. And most were not as glamorous or important as you would imagine. The Temporal Loom is about to explode/has exploded as Loki timeslips over and over and over to try to work out how to keep all the branching timelines from being destroyed. Everything, literally, gets wrapped up at the end but we ponder how they could do a season 3 if they decide to go further. All in all, we think this is the best of the Disney+ MCU shows so far. First up, The Way We Weren’t, where we finally get the backstory on Pilot and how he came to be bonded to Moya. We also learn that Aeryn was there as well, much to the crew’s shock and anger after seeing her on a previously undiscovered recording. Will they and Pilot forgive her for what she did back then? Finally, we review Picture If You Will, where a shopkeeper gifts Chiana with a picture that can seemingly foretell the future. Or can it? Nope, it’s just the crew’s old maniacal super powerful adversary Maldis getting his revenge on them for what they did to him last season. They barely beat him last time with help they no longer have. Welcome to the next episode of Farscape Flashbacks! Our reposting of our Farscape season one and two podcasts that we did on another podcasting network so you can more easily listen to them here. Here's our "original" show notes for this episode. Enjoy! Farscape has seemed to hit what can only be described as a "Sophomore Slump" with the first part of season two. But Jason and Eric power through these next episodes as we know better things are to come. First up, "Taking the Stone", where Chiana is having a rough time and goes to a nearby cemetery planet (yes, you read that right) to clear her head. We learn that Crichton really wants her to come back to Moya, even if he has to do things way out of character to make that happen. And Rygel "borrows" some nice shiny objects from one of the graves on the cemetery planet. Nothing bad ever happens to grave robbers, right? Finally, we review "Crackers Don’t Matter", where an alien has offered to make Moya undetectable by scans. Which will surely come in handy since Scorpius has left lots of wanted beacons on the planet they just came from where they only had time to buy food crackers… lots and lots of crackers. However, the crew starts acting abnormally when going to the alien’s planet… to the point of insulting, assaulting and even attempting to kill each other. What’s going on? Can they figure it out before it’s too late? And what about all those crackers? Oh right, they don’t matter. Editor's Note: It seems the first attempt to publish this episode had some issues with the file. If at first you don't succeed.... --------- We're back to discussing more occasionally random things. Back to our continuing journey through Farscape (the not random part) with season 3, episode 18, Fractures, and also the first half of Loki season 2 (the random part). On Farscape, we finally get the band back together. Except for that other copy of Crichton who, well... you know if you've been following along. But we also have another crew to deal with who have come aboard Moya -- some escaped prisoners fleeing a Peacekeeper weapons test. But one or more of that crew is not what they appear. Can the crew figure it out before they're captured? Will Aeryn start warming up to this Crichton? And we set up the plot for the rest of the season at the end of this one. Then we cover the first three episodes of Loki season two, which picks up seconds after season one. Loki and Mobius have to find Sylvie and stop TVA General Dox from pruning all the branching timelines, but also find out what Miss Minutes and Ravonna are up to back in 1893 with a variant of He Who Remains, the big bad of last season, and the founder and creator of the TVA. Ep 28Occasional Randomness - Farscape Flashback #12 - They All Can’t Be Winners (Farscape S2E01-02)

Welcome to the next episode of Farscape Flashbacks! Our reposting of our Farscape season one and two podcasts that we did on another podcasting network so you can more easily listen to them here. Here's our "original" show notes for this episode. Enjoy! We kick off season two of Farscape with somewhat of a mixed review. First up, episode one, "Mind the Baby", where we pick up after the exciting events of the season one finale. Can the crew be reunited in time before Scorpius finds both Moya and her offspring Talyn? Can they finally escape this asteroid field? John and D’Argo get some more bonding time. And Talyn is being a pain in the neck, literally, for Crais. And then we "discuss" episode two, "Vitas Mortis". There are some good "Farscape nuggets" to mine from the episode despite what we thought of the main plot. Oh well, they all can’t be winners. Ep 27Occasional Randomness #16 - A Galaxy Really Far Far Away (Star Wars Ahsoka S1)

We're back after some more vacations... and illnesses. But, as promised, we cover the entire first season of Star Wars: Ahsoka. There's even a connection to Farscape as one of the minor characters in Ahsoka was a major character in Farscape. It's a small world after all. So, come join us as we geek out about one of our favorite things -- Star Wars. There's lots of callbacks and easter eggs to other Star Wars shows and movies in Ahsoka, which we discuss. We get to see live action versions of Star Wars Rebels heroes and villains; and they do not disappoint. We also discuss how this show continues to build on an underlying theme from the other Star Wars shows of how the Clone Wars has affected those that fought in it many, many years later. And we discuss our hopes for season two. Listen to our other episodes on our website, https://occasionalrandomness.podbean.com/ Watch Ahsoka on Disney+
