In this episode, meet Brooke Stambersky, owner of Brooke’s Bitchin’ Stitches. She began her quilting journey about 6 years ago. She has always been a creative and crafty lady, and when she finds a new craft, she dives right in! Quilting was no exception and she fell in love at first stitch. Over the past year, Brooke has launched her new quilt pattern design company and website, Brooke's Bitchin' Stitches, where she is currently working on a quilt pattern series entitled, Home. This Home pattern series allows quilters to create the United States, state by state, using fabric. These patterns are a wonderful way for quilters to use their fabric stash and be an artist with fabric. Each pattern focuses on a specific state within the US and features mini quilt designs. They are on a roll now! In this update, Amanda and Abe head to a local favorite, The Quilt Crossing, to buy the fabric for Abe's quilt. They plan out what type of fabric Abe wants for each part of the pattern, and they dove in head first! Thankfully it didn't take them too long to find what they needed and they left happy! Abe is looking forward to cutting up the fabric and getting started on his quilt! They have to get as much done as they can in the next couple of weeks because Abe gets back to teaching university math courses for the fall semester! Update number two on Abe learning how to quilt! After teaching him how to use the sewing machine and make a quarter inch seam, it is time for him to choose a pattern to make! He loves sacred geometry and wanted to find something that could fit in that category of aesthetics. We look at options, discuss what the pattern entails and talk about how we will try to accomplish the task of making his quilt! Our next step is to buy fabric! So stay tuned for that gem! Welcome to the Spain Edition of the Not Your Granny's Quilt Show Podcast! Abe and Amanda went to Barcelona for their anniversary (they've been married for 10 years!), and thought "hey, why don't we try to interview a quilter in Spain?!?" And here we are. We got in touch with Anna Martinez of Sew & Patch in Barcelona, Spain. She bravely welcomed us into her shop and agreed to speak with us at her store. She is a Bernina dealer and hosts sewing and patchwork classes in her shop. The walls are filled with threads of all colors, rotary cutters, rulers, needles... basically any sewing notion you could ever need! In this final episode of the Beginner's Series, Amanda talks about her Top Tips for Sewing. Seam allowances, pinning, or clover clipping, and your speed all matter! It can be so frustrating to have wonky seams in your quilt. But with Amanda's tips, you will be sure to have an easier time sewing beautiful seams on your quilt. Having nice seams means your quilt blocks will come together better and you will have crisp, tight lines, which is what we all want in our quilts!
